Also, I'm a CD collector and have spent years fixing cases. This video has amazing tips that I now use. Your techniques are by far the most careful and professional I've seen.
Couple of things with these jewel cases: They are much better than the average replacement cases you can find, but they aren't built as solid as original PS1/Dreamcast CD cases. Another important thing to note is they do not fit the multiple CD book like cases well at all. Stuff will fall out very easily so with those it's best to keep some of your old Dreamcast/PS1 back cases for those if they're in good enough shape.
Thank you so much dude, I thought I was the only one who’s worried about the scratches on cd cases, actually I was hesitating to buy a brand new cd and keep it sealed, you’re a lifesaver ;)
Looks great! Definitely helps to have this detailed breakdown of the differences between the clear cases. Personally I wouldn't worry about adding the additional protective bag. It kind of ruins the look and the cases could always be replaced again if needed. A better option might be to spring for jewel case protectors. There are plenty of options out there if you google it. Cost is less than $1 each. I'd only consider for really rare and valuable items, or for cases with hologram stickers that can't be replaced.
Thanks! Glad I did a good job of breaking down the different types of jewel cases for you. Yeah, the cases can always be replaced again but that costs money. With those protective bags, I have handled those replacement cases without scratching anyone of them yet for over 2 years. :)
Good video but I noticed three things: you don't have to actually detach the front part of the new jewelcase while you put the booklet/inlay etc in it. That's not necessary. The second thing is: if you detach the tray of the back part, put it right back there after that. Let it sit there until you're going to place the inlay itself. Then close it asap. To prevent dust etc. Last thing I noticed: you don't have to make your own jewelcase protection. There are plastic sleeves on the market that are made to protect jewelcases. The ones that you'll also see in record stores (professional stuff). Those are cheap and easy to use.
Thanks!!! A couple of days ago I had my entire cd collection (consists of 6 CDs) in a bag because I was taking them somewhere, but I picked up the bag and I had no clue it was ripped so all 6 of my CDs fell out and 4 of the cases broke (thank god the actual CDs didn’t break!) so yeah
Fantastic video! I watched it all the way thought and really appreciated the tutorial and insight. The cases cracking and scratches are what have kept me away from CD collecting but now I might actually start collecting CDs. Thanks!
its just a standard CD case replacement, nothing fancy. Try finding PAL cases, they are EXTREMLY hard to find. i have 30 brand new ones. i only need 30 more for my collection.
The PAL cases are hard to find because they were only made by Sega. Since Sega doesn't support the Dreamcast anymore, no more new cases are being made from them. However, I see the PAL version of new independent Dreamcast games coming in these cases. I don't know if those are from old Dreamcast games or brand new cases. If these are brand new, there might be a way to get more PAL cases. :)
Thank you. I'm actually here for quite the opposite reason and wanted to not break the jewel case itself. I didn't encounter any issues but I imagine it might be easy to break the hinges that stick out with this method though so I don't know if it's worth mentioning. I'm using a pile of junk old cases to make custom labels for music that is entirely inaccessible/too small of a thing (random promo discs) since I'll never get one lol.
I'm watching this because I ordered a brand new cd album on Amazon and the case has cracks everywhere. Instead of putting bubble wrap or the like all over the cd album, they only placed it inside a thin and ordinary paper envelope. Nothing else. Thanks to Amazon's ignorance and carelessness, I'm in here and planning to buy a new cd case.
That's exactly what happened to me, fortunately they refund me the full amout of all the CDs damaged (3), now im struggling to buy decent CD jewel cases without paying so much money for them.
thank you dude, i bought an album for my gf and the jewel case come with a scrath, and i thought of turning it back so i can get another but this vid make it all easy

So besides the hinge and the “compact disc” logo, how is the quality of the Ulines? Are they as flexible or malleable as the cheaper ones I’ve seen or are they more rigid like the genuine article?
Remember that original Dreamcast games didn't have the jewel cases that said "Compact Disc Digital Audio" on them. They had a plain square where it says that on some brands. Dreamcast games are not CD-ROM discs, they are GD-ROM which is probably why Sega didn't use that Compact Disc logo on the cases that they used. Here is a link where you can buy them: www.amazon.com/Memorex-Jewel-Cases-Standard-Clear/dp/B00P9WX3NU/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=Memorex+Jewel+Cases&qid=1622983628&sr=8-4
Do these ULine cases have a nice tight snap when you open and close them? I've bought some cases from amazon and they were so loose and flimsy. I am looking for cases that are the same weight and overall feel as the original. It seems like every time I buy blank Jewel cases they just always feel cheap and flimsy,
I'm gonna do these Ulines! So.. wow I see they are really $40!? And the spindle really grabs right? I've had countless games that the disc always disc jockeys and bobbles inside -.-
Yeah, these cases grip the CD pretty well and allow it to spin freely. They are $40 dollars but you have to consider shipping as well. If memory serves, I ended paying an extra $26 for the shipping. However, I could be wrong in the amount. :)

They need to go back to school. They are stupid I like the jewel case to. Sacd they are made Betterwish they would put all CDs in that jewel case

Alright, that is awesome! Oh yes, I need some sleeves too. Totally feel you man, Florida heat messes up so many things. The funny thing though is that it is really cold in Florida right now.
I don't think the dots are something that you can buff off. My belief is that those dots are pieces of impure plastic that got incorporated into the CD case.

The best way to clean a jewel case with dirt, grime, and adhesive is WD-40! It will shine them up nicely and make them look like new.
