Byzantines feels like Hre, you can't really fight in feudal. you have to have strong gold units in age 2 or very strong/cheap units like zhugenu/ longbow that can trade effectively. Although, byzantines does have longbows but it's extra hard to build up the numbers like english longbows, let alone English is not in it's best shape in the current mata. If you disagree pls leave a comment, it's a new civ!
I don’t think it’s like HRE in the fact HRE can build way better gold comp heavy armies, Byzantines are more like aoe 2 goths, once you get setup and the flood gates open they just don’t close again.
@lightfallonthehead3842 I am pretty sure if those varagian were ghulams it would have been a very different result. It's actually funny if you look at the ghulam vs the varagian stats
You saw that movespeed bonus in imperial though(1:24:05)? With the Camel Support bonus to offset the loss in armor, they become super threatening to ranged units and siege because with Berserkergang they suddenly can't be kited anymore. That being said, I think that movement speed should be innate to the ability instead of being an imperial upgrade because its not worth it at all to use Berserkergang before you have the upgrade.
My only gripe with Byzantines is their mercenary mechanic. It looks way too convoluted, it has some random value and it must be a hell to balance (plus in my experience it doesn't feel funny to play with or against). I'd have them totally removed and make olive oil do things similar to stone for Mongolians. I am still trying them cause everything else is awesome!
All mercenary prices are equal to the sum of the resources the individual units cost but in oil. You can purchase 5 longbowmen for 450 oil. That's 90 oil per unit and a longbowman costs 40 food and 50 wood of a total of 90 resources. With this system, the only time we'd see changes in the costs, is when the cost of those units get changed. Mercenaries are important for Byzantines as they help you pad your army with a selection of units based on your enemy's weaknesses or your own build. I think the concept itself is fine, but there are some strange outliers, like camels giving support to infantry, which usually is an Abbasid unique tech.
Beasty just on some hard copium with these varagian. If you look at the numbers they are just not good. They kinda remind me of camel riders. When you look at the stats in post imp you think "damn these are broken but then you realize how freaking expensive it is to get them there and mass them up. Just like camel riders you need all the regular upgrades and multipul unique ones as well that are really expensive. Compare this too english who just need armor clad or abbasid who just need boot camp. Like i don't see why i wouldn't just make limitanei and handcannon. The way he showcased them they look very much like a win more unit. Varagian looked lackluster until the end when there wasent any army for them to fight and they ran around killing villagers.
I hope to change also the lang to the aoe2 to greek from latin….cause western roman empire speak latin eastern speak greek…..architecture for Mediterranean was a big step now if they change also lang will be great…
As a greek I was not prepared to hear beasty say cavalarios
Lol I’m always saying it too while watching beasty!
Bro doesn't that "Καβαλαριος" sound so robotic? It's like the announcer on the bus when saying the next stop. She got paid for that job 🤣
@@TheMeatSlapperyes it does sound so robotic.
What does it mean?, i recognize some lines from age of myth xdd
@@Thehoneybadger90I bet it means 'cavalry'

Those varangian guards need to be cheaper or need a buff, cause they are really bad against archers in age 3. You can see that in his first game...
i mean mass zhugenus kinda kill anything regardless of ranged armor

Im just sad that they dont say .....PROSTAGMA!!!
A man of culture!
You know he throws in some key smashes just to make it sound more difficult XD
When you see the pros get supply capped
Those man at arms do a lot of dmg but they become butter for the duration , i don't remeber now but if it is a toggle is broken if not is not usable .
It's not a toggle. When you play bizantines you commit to your choices - like a MAN!

They are good but need some discount in gold asap maybe 30 gold from 40 would be ok….

@@tavish1658 You are indeed right. My frustation probably comes with mercenaries timings: they are veery slow to setup and start producing

They only get Camel Support if they pick Foreign Engineering Company though?
Yes it unlocks all unique techs that other civs get for their uu in the mercs. For example it gives Longbows stakes and landsknecht marching drills.

Why did his enemy not use nest of bees in first game?
cause is weak
why not go for siege in the first game, i feel like 1 or 2 onagers could've totally dealt with those zhugenus (then again i am a filthy gold I)
