    That's how you have to lay rags with neat hypo on the joints to fully remove the black lichen. I think I'm the only one that does that but I'm a bit of a perfectionist which holds me back in business.

      How do I know the chemical is fresh?

    • @DirtyDriveAway
      @DirtyDriveAway  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @albamcconnell depends where you buy it. If its from a proper seller it should be fairly fresh. I get mine direct from the bottler so I know its always good. A sniff test should give a good indication. It should smell of a strong swimming pool, like enough to make your eyes water. If it has barely any smell then it's probably stale. Obviously don't sniff it too hard, you should even be able to shake the bottle and smell the cap rather than sticking your nose into the drum.

    Hey Phil I have a question that I'm concerned about. How do I clean up the pile of excess dirt that's left behind when I finish pressure washing? It's happened to me in a couple of dirty houses I've done now. I'm looking for info and cannot find an answer, your help would be appreciated. Keep up the good work, you're an inspiration!

    • @DirtyDriveAway

      Hi Jonathan, I scrape it up and put it into poly bags. I then have a hippo bag on my drive that I dump it into. It then gets collected at the end of the season. You do have to be a licensed waste carrier in this job though as you carry commercial waste, it should be a free lower tier license.

    Love the videos really helpful. I’ve been pressure washing for about 20 years on and off just for beer money, I’m an aircraft engineer and just retired but I enjoy pressure washing and thought I’d do more of it and just to keep busy if that makes sense. I’ve just bought a Honda GX200 washer could you tell me what you find is the best way to get customers please.
    Thank you for the videos please keep them coming.

      Hey Keith, all of my work comes via my website or social media. In the past I had tried the usual leaflets and adverts in local magazines but they don't work in this modern age. Recommendations and word of mouth is also very rewarding. Having some form of online presence is almost a must for a professional image. Phill

    Be good to see how you price jobs Phil.
    A vid on how much you charge for Pressure washing, sanding and sealing and any extras, what factors effect the price etc. Cheers

    • @DirtyDriveAway
      @DirtyDriveAway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Price per sqM, sanding is no a going rate of around 90psqM including sand. Sealing is a ballache and I would avoid it at all costs. I wouldn't even offer it if I was you. Too easy to cock up or not do right and you'll end up with unhappy customers claiming to fix it.

    Hi Phil, any tips for getting rust of black limestone ? Don’t want to use anything that will make it worse! Thanks mate

    • @DirtyDriveAway
      @DirtyDriveAway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm that's a tough one as most rust removers are acid based and acid is a no no on limestone. A product called powerase
      www.extensive.co.uk/United-Stonecare-Powerase-1l.html
      Is often used on cement stains etc but again it's non acidic so doesn't work like it's stronger acidic brother. I'm not sure how well this will work on rust but the company above is very helpful and well worth a call to ask for advice.

    Phil what’s the spec of the wash down nozzle you use, is it a 65 degree flat fan, what size orifice please?

    • @DirtyDriveAway
      @DirtyDriveAway  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I use a 65degree flat fan. Orifice varies on how much power I want but typically I use a size 20.

    Hello phil, have you ever used hydrochloric acid before, i heard it works much faster, cheers mate.

    • @DirtyDriveAway
      @DirtyDriveAway  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I wouldn't trust using an acid. Yes it might clean quick but also a massive risk of burn damage to the stones. You can't use acid on block pave or concrete as it eats it. Personally I wouldn't use acid, too high a risk.

    • @DirtyDriveAway
      @DirtyDriveAway  ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing with lichen removal is not just the labour cost but the chemical. Chemical cost have rocketed in the past year. For something like this it would be around £250 all in.

  • @michaelmckeary1165
    @michaelmckeary1165 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I usually have to soak a cloth in neat 15% hypo and lie it on top of black lichen for an hour or preferably overnight if its a two day job then a nice rinse and it comes up brand new. That's the only way I have killed it especially on the edges. The customer thinks its a miracle because they have never had it so clean even when it was first laid. 😉

    • @toritori5835
      @toritori5835 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you just use like a 10’ x 10’ paint cloth, lay it out and soak it? I’d like to try that, but wondering what type of cloth do you use.
