NL, when you build the foundation just don't select the walls that are already in use, only select the walls that you want demolished. This way you don't need to rebuild your walls everytime you lay a foundation.
you should try the new escape mode on your own prison. It would make a bit of variety in the serie, learn a bit on how the prisoners IA works but more importantly, find the security flaws in your prison, like making your armory a off limit zone or putting a metal detector at the exit of the workshop.
+GreatSwordOfVictory Honestly I think lighters and drills are a bit overpowered right now. Lighters somehow don't get detected by metal detectors or dogs, and you can just burn something while no one's looking and the holes in the wall the fire makes will never get repaired. I hope they fix that.

chadoftoons I said lighters, not drills. Drills do get detected, but right now you can just get one and murder an absurd amount of people with it before having to go through any metal detectors. If you recruit a couple of prisoners then you can easily take on twenty guards or so.

NL, If you just replace the corners of every large pipe with a small pipe, will that prevent the prisoners from being able to tunnel out. So then you could have large pipes in more convenient spots like next to the cells.
+Tint That didnt work in earlier versions but if it does its to advanced strategy for NL anyway he still has jail doors in the showers or doesnt know how to wire the cameras and just think about how long it took for him to pickup on that level of stuff in isaac
I honestly think this is the best series on your channel right now. It was when your first series was being made, and it is now with this one. I literally hang out for it to be uploaded, like check it multiple times a day. Keep it up man, loving it so far.
I tried to teach him this last time he played this game. Made a video for him and everything! That was way back in A25 though, and I'm not sure he ever watched it, but I think he did get a bit better, so who knows.
Giving your prisoners two consecutive hours for showering, instead of showering for an hour and then lockup for an hour, will also help with your hygiene anger problems.
NL a little tip about the prisoners going to the edge of the fence, dont search them when they want to go out there, search them when they come back. It means they picked something up someone else threw over the fence.
When you're putting foundations for expansions, if you have the edges BORDER your existing walls, instead of OVERLAPPING them, the workers will build floor up to the existing walls, and not add additional walls. That will prevent the problem you're having with destroying walls when you build your new foundations to overlap your existing ones.
NL, you need to totally do a few things. First is the Yard's fence right next to the Nice Cells? You can demolish those, There is a wall there, no need for the fence running against it. Next, You can fit more into the Nice Cells, like the Books and everything. The 'max' is 16 squares because you can fit everything it wants into it easily! There's still lots of room! Also, the Foundation. If you don't want to take out a wall, don't highlight OVER the wall, but next to it instead. Then it won't take out the wall. And finally... BUILD A STORAGE ROOM!!!!!!!! This is why your builders are leaving boxes and junk all over the place, because you don't have a Storage room for them to Store that stuff into! Also, your radios in the Nice Cells are backwords...
1. when building an new building: if you make the walls intersect, then the new building will break the old walls. When planning, if you put the new wall NEXT to the old one, then they will keep the old wall 2. you can set up schedules where the guards only patrol the common room from 8 to 10, which is on the bottom of the deployment screen 3. you could have built new, normal cells where the solitary is, if you made them sidways 4. while I haven't seen the workshop up close, I can say that you don't have any metal detectors near the doors, making it so that anybody can steal drills, shanks, hammers, and whatever else is in there that you don't want them to have. 5. If you don't have metal detectors around the workshop, then I can assume that you don't have metal detectors near the entrance, which can be a problem, when people smuggle contraband through the food. 6. you didn't actually move the door to the big cell block, you just replaced it 7. I got arrested for showering in the chapel, so if you're going around saying its a 'chapel shower', then your a lying son of a bitch
Not sure if you noticed but the yard is apart of the shower zone right now, i suggest you re-adjust the rooms because it may register the yard in the shower. Also i suggest you put a armed guard in the shower, on a patrol and in the canteen so they become "suppressed" and will be less likley to revolt harm others etc.
The reason your walls are collapsing when you build a new foundation adjacent to an existing wall, is because you are selecting the existing wall when you are designating the new foundation. This tell the game that you want the new foundation to include the space already built (Cells). To circumvent this, do not select the wall of an existing building when laying your foundation. Select only the open space up next to the wall. This way, you will build a completely separate room without the pain of rebuilding previous walls. Hope this helps you and others in the future.
Just so you know if you are attaching a foundation to an existing structure, it can be done in a way that will not demolish existing walls, if you click and drag the foundation as usual and then stop next to the existing wall, not sure how to properly explain that, but when you built your awesome cells you clicked and dragged in the foundation and went to far right and overlapped the existing cells wall's, if you would have stopped one square left of that wall, it would have added in the foundation, and when it finished you would have your expansion with the wall still intact and only one block thick, the way you have done it here, as well as in the past, is intended for expanding a single room, like a kitchen or canteen, without having another wall added inside the existing room. Hope that makes sense :P Other than that great job so far, really enjoying the series, and have to say your commentary is rather funny. Good luck with the Game programming btw, I myself am two semesters into my education for Game Programming as well as Design, and I am enjoying it so far, if you ever wanna bounce around some ideas hmu.
If you want my advice, try to stay away from fencing in the entire yard for the beginning of your prison, as you can see, your workers couldn't construct the pipe, not because of the path-finding, but because the were trapped in the fenced in area, and couldn't go to grab the pipes needed to complete the task, also i've never seen any tunneling escapes ever in my game, the game is actually currently bugged, and the dog patrols will alert you, saying the found something, but it's actually nothing. I know this because i played in sandbox mode one time, i had set up dog patrols before even opening my prison to prisoners, and the dogs were already alerting me to several spots.
NL the only reason they tear down your walls while building the foundation is because you always drag the foundation over the existing walls. If you just drag the foundation next to your walls instead, it'll build up the foundation using your pre-existing wall as the wall for the new foundation. Waaaay more efficient.
Yo NL, when building foundations you don't need to build them on top of the wall and thus demolishing walls temporarily and costing you more money. If you just end the foundation area right next to already existing walls, your builders will build floors, not another wall.
I think your placement of solitary cells across from awesome cells is utterly absurd! Also, to avoid the possibility of the prisoners in cells with their walls torn down being able to escape, I feel like I would make some double-layer walls whenever I expand

The workers can't find their way to put the path down, so NL has them build a door to the yard, the worker comes to put the door in ON THE SIDE THAT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T GET TO. I just imagine the worker flipping off NL as he does that.
Also, you should do some more research in your managerial 'tech tree'. You can get a third grant, and small cells, both of which help a TON, and don't cost much.
NL. if the prisoners go thru the jail doors anyway, just leave them locked open. it's so ineffective to have guards assigned to each door just to unlock it. Example, the northern wing and yard can be locked open. EDT: also, reception. just make it and you pat down prisoners as they enter

When you drag a foundation that is adjacent to an existing wall if you don't envelope the wall but just stop the foundation plan on the tile next to it it will use the existing wall as the new wall of the foundation. If you envelope with the plan it will delete it. Hope this helps.
So when he removed the Large Jail Door and put it right back I scoffed, when he failed to realize he could tear down the fence to put up the window I guffawed, when he created the most hideous and mishapen shower room ever I gave up. Literally the most haphazardly built prison in existence. Thank god it will be sold and forgotten soon.
Hey nl just a tip for you when you're building foundations you don't need to put it over the walls you already built just stop the foundation at the wall or the squares before the wall and it will still fill in the foundation without destroying the walls you built already
change the entrance of your yard to stone and a path up the east side of it. the walking spped on grass causes people to bunch up and you end up with more assaults when people are mobbed together. also breaking down the south wall on your canteen would eliminate a bunch of assaults there too. hope that helps. also your double security doors on the north side of your canteen are pointless as they can just walk around through the shower.
Hey NL I really enjoy your videos, including rebirth, fallout, Nuclear Throne dailies, as well as several discontinued series. It would be really cool, now that you started prison architect series again, that maybe after this series is either forgotten or officially done, if you could start up cities skylines again. The game is very similar in genre with pa, so.... It wouldn't be bad. You made me buy that game but with your discontinuation of the series so did my enthusiasm with the game lol. I really liked it. Also you don't have to dump those boxes with the prayer mats in them!!! If you build a Storage room (it works like garbage, exports, and deliveries) outside then the workers will just move all your boxes there instead. RIP to those prayer mats.
Have metal detectors in rooms wher you know things can be stolen, they would really help in finding even more contraband, as well as the dogs that need to patrol literally around the whole prison
I actually work with parole hearings and cellphones are actually a pretty big deal. the main reason for having a cellphone is for conducting gang activity, drug deals in prison.
I think the problem is not the size of the shower. You either need to give them more time for shower, or send them in waves. Too many prisoners to wash in too little time.
Sorry one more. If you make private showers in the fancy cells, maybe you can create a tiny seperate room within the fancy cell for the shower with a single drain. Will the prisoner in the cell recognize that as a shower if it isn't desegnated a "shower"?
For the fancy cells, can you control which prisoner's get them? If the whole point is to reward well behaved prisoners, the game doesn't understand your intentions and will put random prisoners in them, instead of the ones you specifically want.
Perhaps, someone will correct me on this, but I was under the impression that prisoners use large pipes like tunnels when they're trying to escape. If that's the case, then it's not bad to have large pipes near their cells; it's bad to have large pipes that go out under the outer fence/wall, or even get too close to them.
Hey NL you should consider building a few more parole rooms, with ~25 prisoners awaiting parole it'll take a long time to get through them all, and more paroles = a lot more money

You can add 4 more capacitors in the corners (: 15 in total. Also you can remove the fence against the wall so you can put windows in the cells.

Have metal detectors in rooms wher you know things can be stolen, they would really help in finding even more contraband, as well as the dogs that need to patrol literally around the whole prison

I actually work with parole hearings and cellphones are actually a pretty big deal. the main reason for having a cellphone is for conducting gang activity, drug deals in prison.

I think the problem is not the size of the shower. You either need to give them more time for shower, or send them in waves. Too many prisoners to wash in too little time.
Sorry one more. If you make private showers in the fancy cells, maybe you can create a tiny seperate room within the fancy cell for the shower with a single drain. Will the prisoner in the cell recognize that as a shower if it isn't desegnated a "shower"?

For the fancy cells, can you control which prisoner's get them? If the whole point is to reward well behaved prisoners, the game doesn't understand your intentions and will put random prisoners in them, instead of the ones you specifically want.

You should grab some prisoners as informants Northernlion. Great for avoiding dangerous riots.
Making the punishments for offenses (like assault, murder, and escape attempts) much much harsher will help deter people from doing said crimes.
Hey NL, if you want your prison to be nice and tidy, you should build a storage room. To the left of your Garbage zone would be perfect.

I never put anything in my solitary cells and I only make them one square of space. It works and it isnt a hassle.
NL you should try the escape mode on this prison when you're finished with it

Perhaps, someone will correct me on this, but I was under the impression that prisoners use large pipes like tunnels when they're trying to escape. If that's the case, then it's not bad to have large pipes near their cells; it's bad to have large pipes that go out under the outer fence/wall, or even get too close to them.
Hey NL you should consider building a few more parole rooms, with ~25 prisoners awaiting parole it'll take a long time to get through them all, and more paroles = a lot more money
Try to put steel floors on your prison. It'll make the prisoners and guards walk faster!
