Fun fact: American Aggregates converted many interurban freight motors from interurbans such as the Cincinnati and Lake Erie and Indiana Railroad into diesel locomotives. As they already had traction motors, they just added the diesel engine inside the empty freight compartment. As a result, many interurban freight motors that would have been scrapped otherwise were used for decades after. This is why theres 5 C&LE freight motors and a single IR freight motor in preservation.
Never knew the US had a diesel loco converted to electric power! I've heard of diesels being converted to electrics in North Korea, India, Azerbaijan, and even Poland, but it's shocking to see the US, of all places, to have been the first to do such a program, even if it was just on a single unit. Thanks for sharing!
@@Pensyfan19 I looked them up. I don't believe the Azerbaijan locos have a class name, but I DO know they were converted from M62s. The North Korean locos also consist of M62s converted to electrics, known as the Kanghaenggun-class, there are also 500 series locos that were converted to electric, a photograph apparently showing a TGM3 diesel-hydraulic converted to electric power on the Hambuk line, and there's some locally-designed Saebyol-class diesel-hydraulic shunters that have been converted to electric For India, with their conversions being more recent around 2018, with the WAG-11 class being converted from WDG-4s, basically Indian SD70MACs, and the WAGC-3 aka WAG-10, converted from WDG-3A diesels, which are basically modernized WDM-2s, or RSD-29s The Polish diesel converted to electric is designated a class 207E, converted from an ST44, the Polish designation for the M62. This engine was apparently converted in cooperation with a company called VIS systems starting in 2017, with 2 class 207Es known to exist with a plan to convert another 10 ST44s to electric
I never know an electric Alco existed until now. Interesting locomotive. Lake Erie and Richard Bay Railroad #1977 is unique. Its a shame it wasnt preserved.
I think there may be a mining railroad or two in Canada that converted old diesels to electric operation, unfortunately I don't have time at the moment to look that up.

Hey, thanks for the collab. Love how it turned out!
I liked this electric-converted Alco RS-3 already, maybe one day I will make this electric-converted Alco RS-3 into model train form or digital model!
Definitely something I want to kitbash❤
My ass kitbashing at 3 am 😂

Out of curiosity, do you happen to know the class names of these international engines that were converted from diesel to electric?

@@Pensyfan19 Is it okay if I ping you in a post to share? I know a lot, but my comment got deleted, unfortunately
@AutismTakesOn that's fine.
@@Pensyfan19 It's up for you!
This is very interesting and another very obscure thing I've never heard of and I never knew that UP put wires up anticipating electric engines
Leaving a like just for the introduction. It's very funny.

the SW1200MGs were built as electrics from the start
Awesome story man
Looks like the electric conversions that were done by North Korea and Azerbaijan based on the M62 diesel
Great video
