I just love this song. If you don't bounce a little, you should probably be checked for a pulse. Love Roger's two-line solo and the backups are fun to sing. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 o'clock" I have about 30 Queen songs in my top 10, and this is one of them. :-)

This is my favourite of today's three though I like them all of course. Millionaire's waltz and Seaside Rendezvous are similar types of songs. Part of what makes Queen so eclectic. They can do any type of music and kill it.

One of the best. From the album A Night at the Opera, do all of us die hard Queen fans a favor and react to The Prophet's Song written by Brian, all cannon harmonies performed live by Freddie alone. Super unique song that once again displays Bryan's range of song writing, Freddie's outstanding self harmonizing and the band's breadth and depth of music. Queen Forever!

Discussing the song in an interview with Kenny Everett on his radio show, Freddie described the song thus: "It's in my 'ragtime' mood that I get a chance to, [Laughs] to do on every album and this time, this is something I've come up with this time around." This song, which was written by Freddie features sound engineer and co-producer Mike Stone taking over the lead vocals for one line: "Hey, boy, where'd you get it from? Hey, boy, where did you go?"

    • @andreasmith6528
      @andreasmith6528 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I called this ragtime, but I wasn't 100% sure that was an accurate description of the genre. If Freddie says so, I'm golden! :-)

The song describes how “a good old-fashioned lover boy” is looking forward to a night of revelry & romance. I believe the lyrics are describing Freddie as the good old-fashioned lover boy. When performed live Roger sings “Hey boy where’d you get it from, Hey boy where did you go?” On the studio version Mike Stone sings that part (Mike Stone was Queen’s producer). I love this song!! 🎶🎶

  • @bettybaby63

Freddie’s creativity is off the charts. Roger, Brian & John only add to the songs greatness. They dabbled in many genres, sometimes using their voices for horns.

I really like the way that electric guitar sound was inserted into this old fashioned ragtime (?) style song and Freddie could sing in all genres authentically and the famous Queen harmonies came again. The lyrics is very Freddie.

Teresa it annoys me when clowns say "Queen are over-rated", really? have they never listened to an album all the way through? the harmonies on every Queen album are always fantastic, then you have songs like seaside rendezvous, love of my life, flick of the wrist, somebody to love and the march of the black queen all great great songs but complex and intricate with so many key changes and fab guitar work, we have the best band ever 👑✊🇬🇧

    Just for reference...
This is not the version of the song heard on the album or the 45" single...
This version is the 'live-effect' re-record especially for Top of the Pops in the UK.
This is then a mimed performance of a live-sound version of the actual song you'd buy!
Queen despised miming (lip-syncing) and that's why there was only one more appearance by them after this (Las Palabras De Amor) on the show, with Queen relying on their music videos to promote.

All I know exists still are Seven Seas of Rhye, Killer Queen, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy and Las Palabras De Amor.
Maybe there are more hidden video gems out there waiting to be unearthed.
The footage of Seven Seas was lost for a long time because of BBC policy of recording over video tapes up until the mid seventies.
Some home recording footage was eventually found and we can watch now. I don't think the Beeb had that policy in action later so if those performances happened, it'd be interesting to know what happened to them...

@@bluebell3720 unfortunately miming has always been a part of music on television.
There are the Saturday Night Live performances by Queen which were live!
Sadly, Queen's British live TV performances that were actually live (other than concerts) seem to be only after Freddie died, having some with Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert.
There may be some I'm forgetting - I ain't young anymore lol.
