    Alkalinity has been my most time consuming struggle over the years. On nano systems like mine, it isnt really cost effective to run a calcium reactor

    I have found adding soft corals as soon as the solidity is correct and the temperature this help control algae blooms the Coral do well no bleaching or burning. Since doing it this way I have had no algae issues. I believe the corals used up all the nitrate intern preventing algae 👍🏻

    I wish I could figure out my problem! I’m leaning toward lighting but I rented a PAR meter and the range looks good. My only coral that are thriving are blue Xenia and a mushroom. Pipe organ closed up and hasn’t opened in a week. So frustrating

      @bryson5134 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alice Holbert nitrates read zero. My refugium has plateaued and chaeto hasn’t grown any bigger than a softball. I don’t have a phosphate test but algae isn’t an issue so I’m guessing it’s within a reasonable level

      You need to have some nitrates like the 0.1 ppm found in nature. 0 is not enough. Also, the par may be good but what about the spectrum? Some corals use different wavelengths - thanks to BRS for teaching us all this.

    Hi i just wanted to know can i use Just glass tank not any aquipment from this tank "Ciano Emotions Nature Pro 120 63 Gallon freshwater Aquarium" for saltwater aquarium? and its stand for saltwater sump?

  • @karennation3580

    Do water changes bring down nitrates? I read very little and to scared to use nopox! Got dinos last time! I do put hands in tank alot lol. Havt attached plugs to rock yet because just cant decide and want to buy more! Sometimes they fall or fish knocks over! I have never had good luck with dips! Seems to stress corals more! I do have lots of bristle worms but i hear they are fine and good scavengers!

    Suprise problems can happen. Mine was setting my refugium/sump up in the cellar at the beginning of fall. Everything was going great until the end of Spring, when I noticed my corals dying. I was doing water changes and checking chemistry, lighting, temperature...nothing was helping. Then one day while I was down in the cellar, I noticed water from above dripping directly into the sump, from the copper house plumbing pipes directly overhead condensating with the warming temperature in the cellar that hadn't occurred during the colder months. My 125 gal tank was virtually bleached out by then. Silver lining? None of my fish had Cryptocaryon!

  • @jonathanlee97
    @jonathanlee97 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hmm my gold torch died, then my purple tip torch died. They were fine for 2 months then after a tank crash from a faulty return pump, everything went downhill. One by one they started getting worse and started melting away. Ive tossed them out and now im left with a green torch which lost one head but is currently doing fine.

    • @jonathanlee97

      Muhammad Amir Bin Mohd Azman bukan leak. Return Pump kat sump rosak, so air tak mengalir dlm sump dan filter, bio media. Tak sampai 20 jam air dah keruh. Coral banyak mati.

    Is it really tru that you can have most easy beginner corals adapt to slightly less than ideal conditions and thrive if you just set it and forget it lighting?

  • @karennation3580
    @karennation3580 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    i have recieved a batch of corals and only one moselya is dying. Looks like to much light the way you desibibed. Its losing tissue. Its a low light coral I read and I have it on sand bed! I have moved it under a lower light section of sanded. What should I do until I can figure out my par reader on my seneye. Is there a dip or something? I think Imay have dinos! I am going to try dino rx. Is that to harsh for new coral? I thought it was gone but now it is back. I am keeping corals blown off all the rest are fine but this one and its a big expensive colony!

    What about the fishes that are in the tanked what are their purpose towards Coral

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an important consideration too. Certain fish will eat corals, while others are completely reef safe. Research before you purchase your new fish is a crucial step to making sure that you're setting yourself up for success.

    My green Goniopora is looking swollen today and I've read that it's a good sign and other say it's bad. Idk what to think anymore. My parameters are all on point, salinity is always .25 and temperature is always 78. I'm running a UV sterilizer and my water looks crystal clear. I always keep up with water changes every week. I'm completely lost on what to do.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Double check your calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels as well as your nitrate and phosphates to get a good pulse on how the system is running. Aside from that, lighting and flow are the other factors. If after evaluating all of those variables, you still can't find anything out of the ordinary, a water change is always cheap insurance against potential contaminants that you probably aren't testing for.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A par meter is the best tool for that. It will essentially measure the light intensity and give you a baseline for adjustments.

    • @guapodidier2099
      @guapodidier2099 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BRStv I am not sure if they are dying, but it has been like 6 weeks that not open, and I already checked all the parameters and it seems that it is fine. Sal35 ca380 dkh9 mag1200 I do water changes every week of 20% , red sea coral rpro salt and RO water ,but it seems that nothing helps. ask if it can be the intensity of the light, I had ai prime then change to 32hd.

  • @chefmd1980

    How can i lower my alkaline? Its about 13! Im losing my corals. I already did 2 50% water changes!

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have two main options. Option one is to stop dosing alkalinity, do nothing, and let the corals consume the alkalinity over time. Depending on your coral load, this could be very quickly, or very slowly.
      Option two is to do water changes with a salt mix lower in alkalinity content. If you're doing water changes with salts like Instant Ocean, Reef Crystals, or Red Sea Coral Pro (just to name a few), this won't help much because the alk content of those salt mixes are already high.

    Should I do the dip thing with my corals if they have those worms in them?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're trying to get rid of the worms, a coral dip can help. If they're desirable worms like coco worms or feather dusters, then dipping them will kill them off.

    • @joeybsreviewsdemos1055

    Strange question maybe, but can smoking in the house affect the water quality?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's plausible, but would be hard to test for in order to say that it definitively impacts the reef tank in a specific way. What type of smoke may also matter, but again, hard to say for sure.
