It's so sad that people would reduce such a sweet, fun and talented actress down to the silliest of things, like an accent or an outfit. Truly a shame.
If you watch her interviews from a year or two ago, her accent is very different. She had a indian accent then and now it's more of an american valley girl accent.

Aahana It's not shocking, I was just responding to the original poster. She travels from India to the states, back and forth. So she changes her accent depending on where she is, thats why people are calling her accent fake. Like you said that people tend to pick up on the local accent but she's not being consistent, hence the backlash.
Fan Gurl when you speak in one specific language for a long time, your accent changes automatically. My mother tongue is Bengali so I used to have a Bengali accent in Hindi and English but after 4 years of college in a hindi speaking-majority college, my Hindi lost all accent and instead I got a Hindi accent in both Bengali and English, and now after 4 years of constant speaking of English in USA during my PhD, I have a pretty light accent. And it's not because of lack of speaking in Bengali and Hindi (parents and friends), it's just that I have to speak clear English everywhere, it automatically happens.

Get this coming from a linguistics student with masters in English and phonetics teacher. She is not faking her accent.
To put it very simply, the way English sounds Should be pronounced she does it accurately and perfectly, which is why she sounds foreign and good.
Indians have learned English as a subject (not as a language) through grammar translation method with your regional languages. Because of this people speak English, but their sounds and intonations are influenced as per their native language.
Don't be jealous just because she sounds accurate.
By calling her accent fake you're only prioritizing English language, showing your insecurity and inferiority as if people speaking English are above you or something.
It's just a language anyone can speak the way he/she/they want without judging each other.
Focus on your life rather than judging her lmao.
