What a lovely video! When other design software companies are "updating" their software with Rotate & Duplicate, you guys drop this. I know of no other design sw team that ships faster and at such high quality. Been amazed from the start. Fingers crossed that you move the iPhone app to more and more of a viewer/player/tweaker, rather than a full blown authoring app.
What are you yapping about. We badly needed a way to duplicate a vector in a circular fashion in Figma, for a long while now (e.g. Circular loaders, hello??) Sure Figma could’ve done much better to make that thing an array, so one vector duplicated and rotated is actually still adjustable and connected to each other. But it’s way better than nothing. Anyways, I’d love for Play’s future to be the fullblown frontend for SwiftUI. Apple already has built a robust and simply superior frontend UI for mobile native apps. Their iPhone app should be in theory should be the miniaturized version of that, and let’s us design SwiftUI off the cuff, right in the iPhone itself. I really believe we as a design ecosystem could build a full blown vector, product design tool that is Mobile first, if we just tried hard enough. Sure it’s not as intuitive and as fast as the iPad or macOS app. But imagine being able to design on the go, right on the same device you’re holding right now, for the same device you’re holding right now. And everything in Play should be exportable and usable in a real Xcode project someday, and be even possible to work seamlessly with Xcode developers in a Design System handoff kind of way

it's so beautiful! I really think blueprints is the way to go, and it's the future for app development. Just like game developers use blueprints to code many things using Unreal Engine. I think we should have the same thing for building applications! Imagine you can just build your UI with blueprints in visual mode like this and take the code from there to add logic and complex things! The future is you guys go even further to not only prototype for design, but extending the editor to build the entire app with ability to use custom code when you need it, just like Unreal Engine ! You guys are so close ! I love it! Everything is beautiful!
Serious question here: With all of this added functionality, do you think you've bridged the gap between "Design" tool to a "Visual Development" tool? Framer started off as a competitor to Figma and then became a website builder. This looks like a design tool, that's now transitioned into a FlutterFlow-esque level of building With the ability to export the SwiftUI code with a lot of pre-built logic due to these 2.0 features, what are your thoughts on this? Or do you still consider it a design tool with too many limitations to consider it an app building tool?
I guess you may have just seeded the idea of a pivot in the team's mind. It'll be interesting to see if they eventually consider the pivot into visual developer for iOS apps 😊
That's a great question! We're a design and prototyping tool built on the power of iOS and Swift, rather than a "Visual Development" tool. We're building Play for teams that value prototyping, and we aim to make the developer handoff process easier for them, among other things.
@@CreatewithPlay I hope you keep it this way. We just need a native design tool that will let us design beautiful and interactive SwiftUI concepts and prototypes. But is flexible enough that it can really export that to SwiftUI, and really help Apple platform into dev handoff, inline with dev & design team Design System principles and best practices.
@@CreatewithPlay It's great you all currently have a clear vision on your target audience. However, it may be good to never say never on the possibility of being a visual development tool. You can design everything in Play that you can design in Figma, except shapes with a pen tool. Play also has native prototyping, sharing with App Clips, and SwiftUI code export.
You can do this in the animation settings for actions! Choose a "Custom" easing curve and play around with the value in the expression editor. We'll make a video for this in the future.
Can Play support a " press-drag-release-to-select" interaction? kind of like in iOS's control centre, when you press and drag to set a timer for a certain amount of time. Also kinda like how you zoom in with the camera app on iOS. I have been looking for prototyping tool that can do this for ages, both Figma and Protopie cannot do it.
