      When watching Star wars Visions: Village bride, I had to check who made the music. I was not surprised at all to see Kevin's name on there. He is great at making music punch you right in your emotions, in a way that just stands out from the rest.

    Bulgiarian folk-style choirs are very common in Japanese OST, so no surprise that Kevin uses it as well.
    Kenji Kawai from Ghost in The Shell, Himekami, and Granblue Fantasy has some excellent examples of this.

    • @Hhhh22222-w
      @Hhhh22222-w 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think GITS is Japanese folk music style tho

    • @hian
      @hian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Hhhh22222-w
      Nope, the chorus style is traditional bulgarian with the lyrics being ancient Japanese.
      Ancient Japanese people did not sing like that.

    • @kineticstishi
      @kineticstishi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Two Steps from Hell also uses bulgarian choir a lot

    • @hian
      @hian ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Aloe Vera
      Except it is?
      "The distinctive sounds of women's choirs in Bulgarian folk music come from their unique rhythms, harmony and vocal production. Characteristic polyphony, such as the use of close intervals like the major second and the singing of a drone accompaniment underneath the melody, are especially common in songs from the Shope region around the Bulgarian capital Sofia and the Pirin region (Bulgarian Macedonia)."
      But please, keep on spouting ahistorical nonsense🙄
      The common use of this particular type of Choral song is very much derived from Bulgarian folk and has nothing to do with the Turkish tradition, reminiscent or not.

    • @hian
      @hian ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Aloe Vera
      Nice nonsequitor.
      Vowel harmony has nothing to do with this. For one, vowel harmony is present in Bulgarian, as it is present in a wide array of Slavic languages.
      Secondly, it is not present in Japanese except in Kansai-ben despite the type choral usage in pieces like The Ghost in The Shell, which amply demonstrate how this has absolutely nothing to do with why this chorus was used or its particular type of song.
      Again, the question here is where the particular choice for this particular sound comes from in Japanese music. There is plenty of choral and folk music with a similar type of sound around the world and there are plenty of languages with vowel harmony from completely separate language families. That is neither here nor there.
      The particular use of this choral music in Japan came from the popularity of the Bulgarian folk chorus as propagated by The Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir, which is an internationally renowned world music ensemble that performs modern arrangements of traditional Bulgarian folk melodies - which is a thing, and which you'd recognize if you weren't too lazy to simply look it up here on TH-cam and listen to it.
      I should know. I've worked in the gaming industry here in Japan for over a decade and been in regular contact with many of the profilic composers/producers who employ this type of chorus, including but not limited to Miki Higashino, Yoko Kanno, and Nobuo Uematsu. I also produce and compose myself.
      But again, please. Do go on.

    Kevin also breaks down Rachel's theme, literally made her soundtrack just based on a picture of her, it's such subtle storytelling just through music alone, that she's actually more complex than what we're told early on.
    Also, this 'voice' during 3:12 to 3:27 (Idk if it actually SAYS something) but this sound effect plays whenever Bam (The protagonist) has a major accomplishment/is going through an important test, (it has also played for characters related to him once or twice) I wonder if it can be classified as a Motiff? Since it's a voixe effect and not a note? (Psh, love your channel X3)

    Day 78 of requesting House of Sacred Remains from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. Beautifully atmospheric track and one of my fave's from video games in general. It'd be awesome to hear what you think of it.
    It's the theme of a level set starting from a cathedral and ending in the crypts through lots of library areas, it's not a particularly significant or infamous level at all but I think the track really reflects the hallowed grounds housing sacred relics beautifully.
    The 4 minute upload from the Castlevania Sound Team is the one to listen to.
