    I've never in the past really taken much interest in politics and government until this election, and I just want to say after watching Whitehouse present his information about Dark Money, and the connections he made, my mind was blown. Never have I been more impressed listening to someone speak. I don't live in your state, but I hope to God the senate has you for a long time. This ties to the very nature of everything that is wrong with our government and how it's no longer in the hands of the people. Truly eye opening. I truly believe if you want to know what is going on in our country to stop watching media stories, and news papers (not literally stop all), but instead to watch court proceeding, senate hearings, read official government documents. It's the only way to escape the huge influence of being told what opinion to have instead of being presented with information and making your own opinion.

      Jo Kamburt - the disastrous Citizens United v FEC case legalized money laundering and bribery in politics by weaponizing un-limited dark money as "free speech" in an egregious mis-interpretation of the first amendment. This case was launched by an alt-right-wing-nut from Indiana named James Bopp, who still runs the republican't party in that state. #MoscowMitch has always been all about money in politics, and this case is a significant part of the considerable damage that #MoscowMitch has done to the United States of America.. To date, twenty states have had voters approve of a Constitutional Amendment to clarify that the First Amendment "free speech" provisions don't apply to judicial entities like Unions and Corporations, and that money is not "speech". Still have to get another 18 states. Ben Cohen (of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream) has been a leader in this effort.

    When I say ‘too good’, don’t get me wrong I respect the office (or at least I used to), but I feel to run for president you need to be a ‘performer’. And I feel inherent to that is a certain level disingenuousness. And simply put, Whitehouse may have too much integrity to excel on the campaign-trail-puppet-show, at least in the eyes of the ‘low frequency’ voters - which is sadly a large proportion of Americans.

Senator Whitehouse drew a very chilling and accurate picture of the 'scheme' as he termed it, and the 80 cases which have been effectively decided by dark money. The facts would merit the investigation of these decisions, and the sources that, on the face of it, purchased them. Perhaps that would be a better, if more difficult, method of dealing with SC numbers, than just appointing additional judges to restore some semblance of balance.

      @mbd6054 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@andycanfixit I agree with every word you've said. To me, it's essential that balance is restored to the SC, and in the short term there seems little choice but to appoint at least one additional Judge to the Court. But ultimately, those 80 cases must be investigated, however long it takes, and every corrupt judge must be impeached, and prosecuted for corruption. No democracy can function with a corrupt Supreme Court. Patching the problem with an additional appointment will be effective, but it will not save the Court. We must rid ourselves of the notion that the rich and powerful cannot be imprisoned. They can be, and should be. Biden must appoint only those who believe this to be the case.

    Listening to Senator Whitehouse's questions to then-Judge Barrett sounded to me, on the one hand, like a class in ethics to the other senators in the chamber AND as a veiled warning to those who rely on, accept, live with, and thrive on donations from Dark Money. I would not have thought so then, but a few days ago I listened to Sen. Whitehouse explain in a series of 7-8 lectures [highly recommended and on TH-cam] how Dark Money operates in the chamber and the backrooms of the senate particularly with respect to the nomination & confirmation of federal appellate judges and justices to the supreme Court. To put it another way, Senator Whitehouse, it seems to me, used the foregone conclusion of Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation to the Supreme Court to tell his colleagues in the senate that he's about to expose the role of Dark Money in everything the senate touches and examines. Indeed, he did, and if you're worried about American Democracy, make a point of tuning in to these brilliant lectures.
