The 72 has, I kid you not, more wins than the 60’s combined at 14! In 576 races, those 14 victories, 14 poles, 145 top 5s, and 3 different drivers won in the number. The first to drive the number was Ann Chester at Daytona Beach in 1950. The first to win in the number was Joe Weatherly in 1958 at Nashville Fairgrounds. The driver with the most wins and last to win was Benny Parsons in 1978, and he got most of his wins in the 72. The number’s last full time driver was Cole Whitt in 2017. In 2018 Whitt and Corey LaJoie shared the number, Cole making 13 starts and Corey making the rest. Honorable mentions are Phil Parsons at 1 start, Herb Thomas’ brother, Donald, at 21 starts, and Cole Whitt’s Cousin, Brandon, his only cup start Wow, the 72 did great in the Cup Series
A small little mention, Mark Thompson made one start in the 66 for MBM in the 2018 Daytona 500, sponsored by Phoenix Air, a company owned and founded by Mark. He finished running 22nd, 4 laps down.
It has been a journey! Going back and watching the first few it’s cool to see how much more comfortable I have gotten with it. Thanks for watching and the kind words!

Tom Sneva also drove one race for the number in 1987. For the 70's here are some honorable mentions: 70: JD McDuffie, Johnny Sauter 71: Kerry Earnhardt in 2000 at Michigan, the only Cup race he competed in with Dale and Dale Jr. 75: Lake Speed, Joe Ruttman, Dick Trickle, Todd Bodine, Morgan Shepherd, Rick Mast. All had good runs with the number, and all went winless. 77: Ken Ragan, Greg Sacks, Robert Pressley all ran a number 77 Jasper car and all were under different car owners. Looking forward to the remaining numbers.

No. 67, buddy Arrington was the last nascar driver busted for hauling moonshine. Got caught because he ran a red-light/stop sign in front of a cop. Some time in the 70s.
It would be cool seeing you do the other two of NASCAR’s top divisions number history however I can see the problem as both those series (especially the Truck series which only dates back to 1995) have no history and a much smaller number of winners
@@DoglegMediaMatt I suppose you could combine the Xfinity and Truck series into the same series to pad it out a little, might be a little jarring but it’s an option, btw keep up the great work man! This series for a British NASCAR fan like myself is fascinating!
@@LittleOwl2003 yeah, it’s more so sourcing the data, I would love to do dedicated series for each! Appreciate you watching, glad to hear we have fans all over!

Wildly enough, there were quite a few triple digits numbers before the modern era, but with Marty running it during modern era, I will prolly put it in the 0-09 series haha
for this video, you missed Timmy Hill who I shouted out as a honorable mention for the 66 Next video: 70- Gotta mention J.D. McDuffie. Save the horrible fatal crash he was the legend of the #70 and has the most starts in NASCAR without a win, and was one of the longest holdouts of the original independents. 71- I know he'll get mentioned because he's a winner in the 71, but Dave Marcis 71- Also Sara Christian (she'll probably also be a definite mention as first to drive). First female to drive in the Cup Series, back in the inaugural season in 1949, also first to score a top 5 but the top 5 was not in the 71 73- This is a mention for the name. Phil Barkdoll. What a legendary nascar name shame it didn't come with a single top 10. I would mention Mike Harmon's XFinity team for 74 but this is a Cup Series series so I assume you don't want to mingle XFinity stuff in there

Thanks for more HM’s!
For Honorable mentions for the 70, you should mention Bob Ross, He made the one start in 1963 at Riverside
Iike, THE Bob Ross? Lmao
@@DoglegMediaMatt IDK maybe 🤣
The 60 is back David Regan will drive the 60 for the Daytona 500
How did I miss this!? Darnit, there goes my streak!
There’s always next week!
@@DoglegMediaMatt True!
@@Chase911.mp4 you got this
No. 67, buddy Arrington was the last nascar driver busted for hauling moonshine. Got caught because he ran a red-light/stop sign in front of a cop. Some time in the 70s.
Now that’s a great piece of history!
Before covid you would have gotten these things before hand but now I need something to jog my memory, and then go to my material
It’s my lucky number 69! Let’s go wait , it’s not lucky
FAR from lucky… on the racetrack at least XD
Oh man, 66 should have 1.5 wins since Timmy Hill won the Pro Invitational iRacing Race during COVID. He got a diecast and everything!
I didn’t know he got a diecast 😂 leaving him off this list was a massive L for me 😂
@@DoglegMediaMatt hahaha you’re good! Stoked for the next one…definite honorable mention goes to Andy Lally for ROTY in the 71.
@@EvanOslund I won’t forget this one haha
My papaw drive the 65 when he was growing up he always said he never understood why it didn't get used more
That’s awesome!
@@DoglegMediaMatt I agree he's the reason I love NASCAR to this day
It would be cool seeing you do the other two of NASCAR’s top divisions number history however I can see the problem as both those series (especially the Truck series which only dates back to 1995) have no history and a much smaller number of winners
I have heard this sentiment a lot, and I assure you, I am working to find a way to source that data!
Appreciate you watching, glad to hear we have fans all over!
anyway for the 70's
u shud mention
70: J.D McDuffie
71: Fireball Roberts
72: Benny Parsons
73: Bill Schmitt
74: LD Austin
75: Neil Bonnett
76: Larry Frank
77: Erik Jones (or Joe Lee Johnson)
78: Martin Truex Jr. (or Dick Passwater)
79: Frank Warren
and if u need to remember just put it down on a piece of paper
Awesome, I will definitely get you in the next one!
Bro Dick Trickle is a hilarious name. You gotta put it in there if he drove in any other number
Lmao you already know it!
You forgot Derrike Cope drove the car in the 2011 all-star race and you forgot that Michael McDowell drove the 66 car too.
I knew about Michael in the 66, I forgot about Cope in the all star! Thanks for bringing that up!
As a teenager playing Nascar 2, I ran the #69 car sponsored by Trojan.
Meme Lord 😂
So how are you going to handle Marty Robbins in the 777 car? The history on numbers 100 - 776 NOBODY!!
And now on to the 777.
You could do a separate video on odd numbers like the 777, 01, 02, etc.
Wildly enough, there were quite a few triple digits numbers before the modern era, but with Marty running it during modern era, I will prolly put it in the 0-09 series haha
for this video, you missed Timmy Hill who I shouted out as a honorable mention for the 66
Next video:
70- Gotta mention J.D. McDuffie. Save the horrible fatal crash he was the legend of the #70 and has the most starts in NASCAR without a win, and was one of the longest holdouts of the original independents.
71- I know he'll get mentioned because he's a winner in the 71, but Dave Marcis
71- Also Sara Christian (she'll probably also be a definite mention as first to drive). First female to drive in the Cup Series, back in the inaugural season in 1949, also first to score a top 5 but the top 5 was not in the 71
73- This is a mention for the name. Phil Barkdoll. What a legendary nascar name shame it didn't come with a single top 10.
I would mention Mike Harmon's XFinity team for 74 but this is a Cup Series series so I assume you don't want to mingle XFinity stuff in there
Forgetting Timmy Hill was apparently a MASSIVE mistake lol 😅 thanks for the suggestions and for watching!
Honorable Mention: Jamie McMurray Drove the 77 in the 2021 Daytona 500
I got it! Thanks!
@@DoglegMediaMatt no problem
Okay number 64 you forgot, Tommy Gale number 66 you forgot Phil Parsons 69 Lee Raymond
Todd Bodine in the 66!
I have sinned 😅
71 Dave Marcus
In Arca there is a 69 car i found that out by watching the 2023 talladega arca race so there ya go
We need it in Cup lmao

@@DoglegMediaMatt your welcome
Like I said, 60-69 fairly disappointing. There is one interesting guy I stumbled upon, that was Steve Seligman who raced for a bit in 1995 and 1996 in select races withe the 65. He never actually successfully qualified for a race and was actually sent to prison for pocession of coccaine at the guys shop. Not sure what happened to him or where he is now

Dave Blaney's Jasper #77
Joe Nemechek National day of prayer #78

If I had a nickle for everytime the number 64 was in the winners circle, I'd have two nickles... which isnt alot but it's weird that it's happened twice...
😂 thanks Elmo

It’d be a quick way to the history books!
@@DoglegMediaMatt my thoughts exactly its just like what Jeff Gordon did with the #24
I thought the 51 would get doc Hudson a mention last video
This is one of my biggest mistakes 😅
Regan Smith 78
Landon Cassill 77
Regan smith finally gets his time as a winner!
67 we'll run again this year with a racecar driver by the name of mr. Kobayashi not anything to do with Keyser Soze
Yup, at Indy! Maybe we add another nationality to the wins list!
Elliott Sadler's rookie season was in the 66 car
In the xfinity series yup! He was with wood brothers to start in Cup full time
@DoglegMedia23 yeah he made 2 starts in 1998 in the cup series with the Phillips 66 machine and started full time in 1999
@@Jdog2201 I thought he made his starts in 98 with the 92 machine. Maybe I’m mistaken haha
I did more digging and it was the #92 Phillips 66 machine, not the #66
The #66 was his Busch ride
If im correct the 71 is the only number in the 70’s to win a championship. We will find out tho in the next video
The shade to MTJ 😭😅

66: Timmy Hill
Timmy Hill is this episodes Jimmy Means… I can’t win like the majority of these numbers 😂
@@DoglegMediaMatt also an honorable mention for #77: Jamie McMurray in the 2021 daytona 500
Um I'm pretty sure the 62 at least tried to compete in every single cup race back in 2015, but to no avail.
I need more numbers in the 60s to complete. We haven’t had a number get it’s first win for awhile!
@@DoglegMediaMatt it really pains and saddens me that nobody wants to ever pick and choose a number that is the most hated.
Quick side note about the 53: it would have had a full time stint in 2021 had it not been for the one off rebranding at the fall 2021 Dega race.
69 is a funny number, if a nascar flip, it still say 69, certified nice
