Dogwood. I simply broke it down into feathers, scrapings, shavings, smalls, mediums, and larges. With my back to the wind, it only took one match to make it ignite and take off burning. Lol! It was SUCH a hot fire… I made another couple of cans of charred punkwood. Please follow the LINKs below and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You! Thank you! Google says… Mise en place" is a French phrase that means "put in place" or "gather". It's a culinary technique that involves preparing all ingredients and equipment before cooking.
David,I’m a long time follower and love all of your content. My question is what the metal of your fire table(s), and where did you get it? I need to build me one (or more 🤪)
That's what I thought for a long time too, but scrapings do not allow the air flow needed for a quick and easy ignition. I accidentally bumped the burning match into some scrapings yesterday in the woods and it immediately put it out. Also, feathers ferro rod ignite better than scrapings and shavings for the same reason.

Practicing with the humble match... Well done, David
Humble, humble match.
Hi David! The way you prep for a fire reminds me of a procedure in French cooking called "mise en place."

As a kid we made slingshots from tread spools and a rubberband and shot self-striking matches.
Lol! Love that!
Good demonstration David, thanks for sharing, YAH bless !
You're welcome!

1/8" plate. See the 2 videos where I built it. Search fire table or firetable.
I thought you would light the scrapings, thinking they would light easier since they were smaller, shows how little I know, lol

Dogwood sure is a hard wood. Another one is osage orange aka cow apple. That stuff also burns very well and hot.
I've heard a lot about Osage Orange over the years... hard.
Australian Buloke is the hardest wood
