Dude, I spent a nice weekend in Lafayette Indiana once because I greased my bearings with a grease gun. I didn't realize I had a bad bearing because I didn't take it apart and look at it. Also you can get grease down in the brakes greasing that way. If you are taking a long trip, I'd take them apart and grease them the old fashioned way
No need to take the hub apart , just lift the wheel up spin the wheel and listen for a rumble/noise on the bearings that will tell you . Quit hub is good .im a retired mechanic checked hundreds of wheel bearings in my life.
Use a wheel brace to check those wheel nuts is a must when you use an impact tool !! Some impact tools may tighten nut too tight or not tighten enough . Torque wrench is even better , people are learning from your videos mate, a comment just to safeguard you Adam . Litigation culture in the USA, enough said ,Wheels coming off and hitting other vehicles or worst still people it will spoil your day . A few years back roughly seven people a year were getting killed due to wheel coming of vehicles in the U.K.

Adam, I've got a full list of maintenance and upgrades to my Keystone Outback RL328. Starts with packing wheel bearings, adding a rear view camera and side cameras, replacing cracked and broken side skirts, adding step reinforcement and more all before I start my RV camping season. I added all new Goodyear Endurance tires last year after a China Bomb experience on the highway. Thank you for sharing.
Great job on this video Adam! This is definitely going to help someone out there who doesn't know how to . It was also a good refresher and perspective on how to do this for those that already have. Adam likes precision. I like what I’m hearing. Keep those bearings clean, greased and adjusted properly. I enjoy hearing the stuff Adam learns along the way. I like that newer version of bearing buddies he’s got on that trailer. Good maintenance helps prevent breakdowns on the highways.
Jeff, I’m not using bearing buddies. It’s clear as day in the video! I used the grease zerk built into the axles which puts the grease between the inner bearing and seal and it pushes the grease outwards through the inner bearing. I will do this bi-annually and completely pull the bearings, clean them and repack them biannually also. That 99% better than what most folks do with their trailers.

@@jeffreydurham5342 bearing buddies are really a boat thing. It keeps pressure inside the hub via grease so that when you back that brake drum into the water it doesn’t suck water in.
Adam when you mentioned brakes rubbing on the drum (@16:00 min) as you spun the drum it looked like it has gone out of true. Something you might want to take a closer look at as it can cause problems with braking and heat build up.
What coincidence, I just did my wheel bearings yesterday, and I'm practically crippled, lol. I'm 62 years old I just had my knee replaced 3 1/2 months ago and I'm getting the other one done in three more days. Anyhow, I found some problems in there when I took mine apart . That little magnetic actuator thing is all messed up. so I need to put new brake assemblies on. PS i just put the BAL tire carrier under my trailer the other day also 👍🇺🇲
Dexter has those grease fitting to pump until all the old grease pumps out the you see the new grease. Did you torque each nut with a torque wrench? Dexter grease is cheap by the case. You did better that most.
Greasing like that can blow the inside seal out and dump grease all over in the brake shoes. I always take them apart and grease them because i get paranoid that it leaked.
When I grease my axles it’s not going to blow out the seal. The grease moves out forwards and through the outer bearings. You don’t need to pull them, clean them and repack them annually. If someone actually does that then more power to them. I do them bi-annually.
The grease hole is usually in the center between the inner and outer bearings. That way both get greased when using the zerk fitting. As the grease is pushed thru the inner bearing, it can push out thru the axel seal, causing grease on the brakes.
One day it will happen and there goes your brakes. The bearings do not need annual greasing if properly packed...years ago front bearings never got repacked and went many thousand miles. Been rving since 1984 and repack every 15,000 miles or more with never a problem@@AbomAdventures
You're stating opinions and trying to falsify the work that I put into my own trailer. Go to any respectable mechanic or trailer shop and they will say that it's best to inspect, check and grease the axle bearings on the annual basis. I'm not here to argue with folks. If you don't agree with me then move on. Why watch a video about something you don't agree with? I'm not here talking about automobiles. We're discussing trailer axles. I've already been burned on the side of the road with a failure so I'm putting in the work to help ensure I don't have a problem again. What is wrong with that? Yea let me not check and grease the bearings because someone says you should not have to if they're packed correctly. I have Dexter axles. The grease cross hole is between the inner bearing and grease seal. Grease is pushed through both of the bearings and out. @@berniejanssen2863
Nice job. Thats how I do it also. I also carry an impact along with a torque wrench when traveling. While traveling a blowout is the most stressful part us RVers worry about. Having these tools with you just helps get you off the side of the road as quickly as possible. Off topic, I’m in Destin and need a machining job done on a piece of equipment for my business. How would I go about getting ahold of you to discuss the job? It is a wore out pulley hub. Thanks
With all that space inside the bearing area of the brake drums, it would take more grease than what you but in . Plus, you take a chance of blowing the rear seals
If those lug nuts have a chrome cap that is your problem. They get rust under the cap and swell. If they do have the cap it is best to replace them. You can get one piece chrome nuts.
Did you recheck the bearing wear after you put grease in them because the grease will tighten up the bearings, i came from your main channel, I didn’t even know about this channel

One rule to add is never use a power grease gun to lube EZ-lube axles like those. Easy to blow a seal out if using power. Even the hand pumping should be slow and easy.

They were great and direct competitors to the Goodyear. Only reason I swapped them early is because I had another bent axle with uneven wear on the tires so I had a full fresh set of USA made Goodyear Endurance installed after I replaced both axles.
Y'all I love ol aboms video's dude is a stand up guy.... I have always heard that steel belted tires on a free wheel should not be switched left to right... Because the belts in the tires get stretched one way and rotating them to the opposite side Will stretch them back the opposite direction and cause the steel belts in them to buckle and get eggs... IDK about bie-ist tire's... Lol... I can't spell... I'm sure dude checked the manual.... Cause you know that's abom...he certainly is a profectionest....
I've had alot of trouble with my brakes more on one side. I think its do to the undersized wires that the trailer manufacturers use to save money. The wires on mine come from the left to the right. So I think the left side gets more juice than the right side. I took it back to the dealer several times trying to get them to fix the brakes from grabbing more on one side. So I bought self adjusters and heavier gauge wire. And I'm hoping that will fix the problem. I have good year endurance tires on the trailer. My wife and I were coming back from West Virginia and had to stop quick at a light and both wheels on the leftside locked up and put a flat spot on a brand new set of tires.

I do not like or trust the grease hub caps. they will grease the outside bearing but to get the inside bearing you would have to put a huge amount of grease in to fill up the center cavity of the hub. Also this is not getting the bearings inspected as they should. Doing it correctly by disassembling and hand packing the bearing does not take much time at all. Another thing do not go by time but by mileage on when to pack the bearings. I learned this the hard way when I moved from Ohio to Florida. bought a trailer and before I ever used it I did the bearing maintenance. Well on the 4th trip I stopped for gas only to look back and see smoke rolling out of the hub. That is when I did the math and realize how many miles were on the bearing grease. So after that I would repack after two trips which is total of 4 thousand miles. driving that distance which I would drive straight through 15 hours of sitting there thinking about loosing a wheel, feeling better I did all I could do to be safe.
Trailer axles and tires are a real hotbed topic on the internet. With that said, there is one thing I do to all my vehicles/trailers: a dab of anti-seize on the lug stud. Not much, jusssstttt enough to cover the threads when the nut spins down.
Why can’t we have automotive style bearing and hubs? We don’t maintenance the pull vehicles bearing every two years… just asking as someone who has never owned a trailer if any sort. I think most vehicles go there entire life with absolutely not wheel bearing service.
My rv dealer told me that they have a lot of trouble with people using the wheel zerks. They usually find a lot of grease in the brakes. I'm just curious, pushing on the tires sideways. Wouldn't you get some lateral movement from the jack stands. They usually have play in them. You can usually rack them sideways by pushing on them.
Aden, I wish you would have explained that the hubs were Dexter hubs. If you read your owners manual, you would have read where you are supposed to rotate the wheel while you introduce the grease and you need to put grease into the bearing till it comes out the cap. I grease mine after each trip, which is about once a month and annually I change color of grease and pump the grease into the bearings till the new color come through. Also, do not use a pneumatic grease gun as it may dislodge the seal on the back.
Radial tires should not be rotated from left side to right side, That reverses the direction of spin & can cause ply delamination separation of layers In the tire.
Whats up with these trailer bearings? Automotive wheel bearings don't need all this fussing around and re greasing, and neither do trucks, whats going on here? They should be designed to do their job, and then some, it's not rocket science, what, is a trailer something that good bearings can't handle?
I think all this bullshit comes from boat trailers. You haul ass to the lake, back your boat into the water , them hot hubs get cooled and suck in some water and instead of educating people they come out with this bearing buddy stuff

With EZ-Lube axles the grease flows from the zerk through the axle stub and comes out inside the inner bearing. It then flows through the inner bearing then the outer bearing and finally comes back out around the outside of the axle stub.
Most of the issues are because everything is made cheap and undersized to make it even cheaper. Bearings get a lot of heat from the cheap braking systems. Having good brakes that run cooler makes the grease last a lot longer.

All four of my wheels had blown out seals because someone did just what you did with a grease gun. What a frikken mess. Brakes up repair.
That brake cleaner is also real handy at killing red wasps and not leaving a mess. It will take em out of mid air.😀

Grease doesn't dissappear, those bearing buddy greaseable caps are bullshit in my opinion. You keep squirting grease in there where is is going to go?

Why not measure off of the drum instead of the rubber tire?
Why didn't you indicate from the rims and not the tires?

Once you pull the trailer it’s going to move that grease around and the bearing endplay will be the same.

Grease doesn't dissappear, you keep squirting grease in there, eventually it's going to come out the seal on the back of the drum.
The grease works its way outward towards the outer bearing. I didn’t blow out the seal and they’re greased properly.

Get to a competent mechanic, sounds like that's the only side that's working. Just trying to help!
Its under warranty and I have to take back there according to forest river.
Check the loading side to side. If it's not equal, you will need to move stuff around.

He wasn't pushing on the wheel hard enough to move the whole rv, you think them jacks have .050 tolerance?
You can push a heavy piece of machinery by had and get movement on an indicator.

That's definitely a new one. Wonder why no tire shop has ever stated that. I mean, it's not like I'm running direction specific tires.
Should indicate the wheel instead of the tire, tires aren't 100% true.
Rubber tire or metal, it's simply a point of reference. It doesn't matter. it was a simple check.
And I had the brake controller turned down pretty low.
