Since I don't plan on playing Hi3 I actually have been consuming some lore videos and damn it's crazy, especially learning more about my boy welt as well! really keen to see how this universes versions of my favs storylines carry out! and yes I know the famous writer is known for killing people off so it's a bit bittersweet xD
I've played majority of them even the crappy afk ones, I only stated the Hoyoverse ones because this is a Hoyoverse game, the biggest studio behind gacha games right now. It's either you are playing the game wrong and not doing all the content or you just want even more resources from a free game, you get to hit pity every patch and even get to see who's coming so you can save for them if they are far away and max their eidolons/constellations. Also free to play friendly refers to doing content with low rarity units, you have great units like Pela, tingyun, sampo etc who are staples in even meta teams, sure the 5 star characters are gonna be out DPS-ing them but thats the whole disparity between a 4 star and 5 star unit. If you need any help clearing the content without 5 star characters feel free to let me know and I will gladly provide assistance! Play smart, not hard!
