Ive been watching old 40s movies since i was in my 30s..im 63 now, and the only damn thing that gets me thru this Ass life is good music and watching these old movies. On my phone. No TV since 2017. Music and books are all thats needed most but these old movies when manners, commen sense and doing the right thing was the norm...
A very great movie. Everything is top notch, first quality, acting is pitch perfect, I think I'm going to watch it a couple times more. Warmest thanks to those who resurrected this jewel, fantastic job.
Correct. When ya 1st see him; the impression is that he won't be that good... But here I am after seeing him in at least a dozen roles... He was one of the best actors in his era.
i remember seeing this one in the summer when i was a child i loved this movie then and still do so many lessons that are learned in this movie 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂!!!!!!!!!
This is what the movie is about...Gino Monetti (Edward G. Robinson) has made his fortune banking, but he hasn't done it legally. When the authorities come after him, three of his sons turn their backs on him, angry over how he treated them in the past. Max (Richard Conte), his fourth son, stands by his father during his trial and stays loyal to him even when he is sent to prison. Max plots revenge against his brothers for betraying their father, while his brothers plot their own revenge against him
Interesting that they used Alfred Newman's music for The Razor's Edge (1946) at the end of the movie. Good performances by Edward G, Richard Conte, and Luther Adler.
I'm almost certain I've seen this movie under a different name... Something with "sons" in it. Fantastic whatever name it goes by. Eddie G, always a damn good watch.
I am from New York City,, Brooklyn. This movie has three great stars from New York and New Jersey. Boy, did they play the roles together, excellently? This movie is typical of that group during that period. What a damn good film. No matter how rich, money is still the root of all evil.
But do you till go out each week to earn another weeks wage. If money can be traded for an ice cream soda fountain, Are ice cream soda fountains also evil?
This reminds me when I was 16 my Dad took me to the Upland S+L. Biggest Bank in Upland,Ca. in 1965. Dad walks in every body in the Bank says “Hi Mr. Sage” after I open a Savings account (we Saved not spent in those days) my Dad asked the VP if he could get a short term loan to fix one of his rental homes in Alta Loma (Rancho Cucamonga now) VP says sure, signs a note and Dad gets his cash. Those were the good days. A man’s word was his bond. Dad took me with him when he made deals. I’ve seen him buy land, homes, apartments where Dad and the Seller agreed on a price + terms, shook hands and the deal was done. Next day, Dads escrow company would call for him to sign the papers on that prior nights deal. It was a well oiled machine.! Years later Dad sold his rentals and became a Hard Money Lender lending to those who were turned down by the banks…at high interest, of course 😊. Me? I went into the Corporate Advertising game after College. Sorry for the Long comment but you got to admit it’s an interesting one!
Holy sh*t!!! This film noir masterpiece seems to have been completely overlooked. It's as if Frank Capra and Francis Ford Coppola collaborated on a combination of themes and imagery from "It's a Wonderful Life" and "The Godfather".
Was it necessary to put the sound trough a home video edition noise reduction process? That filter always "sounds" like everything is underwater and unnatural.
@27:53, Rossini's "El Barbero de Sevilla- Overture". And @40:49, one of my favorite lines in any movie: "I'll have you know my husband died happy." EGR: "Your husband was happy to die!" 😂
In those days the govt. still had some control over private banks. The owner is a responsible person. He gives clean loans but the govt insists on a collateral. He freely loans without collateral but is directed to give loans to secure his portfolio to prevent a run on the bank and protect small depositors.
Does anyone else get frustrated when commenters just say ‘great movie’ etc without telling us what it’s actually about (I notice the channel owner didn’t bother either)? We don’t all have the time to go into full ‘research mode’ before watching films.
It's about dirt and grime, Dark streets with hard unforgiving side walks lined with trash cans full of a mother's tears which she cried after her family's heart was ripped out.
Great movie Edward G he nails any role and Richard Conte is superb 👍

What times! Polish, charm, beautiful clothes, smooth manners, gorgeous digs, all of it. Now, nothing. A race to the bottom.
C est VRAI!
Soooo goos!! Love those Actors
Yes indeed Señora 😊
A masterpiece by Herman J. Mankiewicz with superb actors and a compelling story. They knew how to make movies these days.
It was actually directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. He also directed All About Eve.
Worth it to see the original ending. Even code compliant. Though wonder about the mercurial relationship.
Heavy! Thanks.
Holy sh*t!!! This film noir masterpiece seems to have been completely overlooked. It's as if Frank Capra and Francis Ford Coppola collaborated on a combination of themes and imagery from "It's a Wonderful Life" and "The Godfather".
Good chemistry between Richard Conte and Susan Hayward.

Synopsis would be nice, but thanks for the upload.
In the US of the 30's in the restaurant you were sold cigars; but not cigarettes, which required a licence
Fantastic
Excellent movie but way too many commercials!!

Dolores Parker was so talented!

the audio denoiser is more disturbing than the original noise would have been.

It's funny that, when we hear Gino Monetti singing in the bathtub, his Italian pronunciation is terrible. And yet he is supposed to be Italian.
Its called acting Only Italian speakers would notice the lack of accuracy Lets see YOU try !!!
Richard Conte is the one actor from the "Noir" era that was a SUB B level;
YET booked as an A lister.
Why did his son wind up in sing sing???
Jury tampering...7yrs

A woman who smells good is so alluring to opposite sex.
great movie,,a crime eddy never won an oscar,,,he could play anything
Agreed- he was great in "All My Sons" with Burt Lancaster.
Must be Biden crime family caused Edward Zg to not win an Oscar
I agree my friend. The absolute best
The academy awarded him an honorary Oscar after he died.
He was just fabulous ❤
Strong acting but not sure about the title, they could have come up with something better!
