    Hi Cyd.
    Love your videos.
    I'm about to undertake this project but the only difference is that mine are starting as Halogen. Do you know if the original halogen projectors would yeild the correct part to convert the EvoX-R to RHD? Struggling to find much info on this. Thanks!

    Is this only required for RHD? Or does LHD vehicles need to do the mods as well?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Apologies if I didn't make this clear in the video: this Sinolin EVOX-R projector comes supplied as LHD beam pattern. So if it's going in a LHD car, the only mods you need to carry out are any additional fixing holes required in the projector rim. Does that answer your question? 👍

      @@pitagoras17 part of the reason I'm doing this series is because my xenons had deteriorated to the point of being little better than candles. Plus, there are loads of videos on YT that show how to take headlights apart and a few that show fitting new projectors, but I have found none that go into the kind of detail I have. So I hope 1) it'll really help people who might be nervous about attempting it and 2) will be good for my channel growth.

    Will this have any effect on the lenses of the headlight or it’s structure - is overheat or melt anything ?
    Thanks 😊

      Not at all, remember the heat is being generated by the bulb, which is the same as stock, so no change in heat generated (unless you uprate the bulbs to 50W). I can also see how the EVO projector also has improved heat management features designed in compared to the Hella E55 (stock unit). Plus the lights are cooled by direct air flow as the car is driven.
      I consulted with the headlight SME at work, he was of the same opinion.

    Cyd, thank you so much for this series on headlights. As you say advice to change bulbs is miss guided. Seriously considering doing this modification to my Xenons in my 2007 9-3. I got a quote for refurbishing the factory bowls at £150 a pair minimum, but unsure how good the finish would be. What seems to let these aftermarket versions down is the plastic bulb holder, it appears weak compared to the factory?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, there's a company in Germany which advertises on FB and will do bowls for about E70 apiece. They specialise in restoring classic lights. Considering these EVO projectors are only c£60 a pair it's a no brainer really. I've no qualms with the bulb holder, it's fine.

    Hello Cyd, I am in the process of making the mod on my headlights. The only thing I struggle with is that mine use the H7 bulbs and I really can't figure out how to mount them on the evox-r projector. Do you mind sharing some inspiration if you have thought about it already?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The EVO projectors take the D2S xenons. They don't take H7s. You'll need to use a conversion kit and tech2 to tell the car it now has xenons (HID)

      @CycloneCyd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You mean the cornering lights on a facelift (2008 on)? No sorry, but it sounds like an issue with the motor that turns the projector. I believe you can deselect the function in Tech2 (change HID2 to HID - I think)
      Apparently these EVOX-R are compatible with AFL, so if you fancy taking them apart, take me some pictures.

    Hi Cyd. In a previous video you mentioned legal requirement for different alignment in lhd countries , you said on return to rhd country you could leave alignment as it is for lhd, so why do you need to swap over beam adjusters?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're confusing the need for RHD or LHD beams with the ability to adjust either to a flat beam for temporary use in another country.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The new EVOX-R 2.0 projectors are only available in LHD form and I needed to make it into RHD for UK use. Even if you are in a LHD market, if you drive to a RHD market and wish to retain the 'beam flattener' function, you would still need to make this modification. Of course, if you never drive outside your own country and you're LHD then you can use the EVO as supplied. HTH

    Is it as easy on other car models? I have a Mazda 323F with super dim halogen projectors and i'd love to replace them with Sinolyn H1 bixenon projectors.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mostly yes. Some OEs use a silicon glue though, so if they won't come apart after heating you might have to cut them open and plastic weld them back together. You might need to do some fettling and fabrication, so be prepasred for that possibility.
      I'd suggest picking up at least one 2ndhand headlight and trying it with that first.

    I am unclear. So with this method, it's possible to convert from halogen to bi-xenon?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mine were already xenon, so that's not what I was doing, but yes you could do. Obviously, you'd have to use a conversion kit to provide the driver/ballast.
      Alternative ly you could converty to bi-LED (this would be my preference), though this would require more fettling to make a bracket.
      You could also use an H7 conversion bi-LED projector in the main beam assist side (I wish I'd done this now). That way you could run 2x dipped beam per side and massively improve the main beam.
      Many ways to skin a cat and all that 👍
      I've got a spare set of xenon headlights for my car, so I may do a conversion on them to twin bi-LED and further expand the playlist with additional learning and alternative solutions
