Fisheye lenses are considered lazy in film, since they are overused to add tension and give films an "amateur" look. Personally I think they are "bad" because they are a very affordable lense and well you know anything poor people can get is " trashy", I like fisheye lenses they distort images in interesting ways and really just make fun images. They remind me of late 90s and early 2000s skate videos.
@@moeneet7069 what? Fish eye lenses are not “lazy” and wide angle lenses are used for various purposes and effects all the time. The focal length only determines your style.
I just directed a full length feature and shot it on anamorphic Cooke 1.8x lens set.
I love the way wide shots look when framed correctly. This is why this video works. The wide lens fits the style. They wanted this and thought about it and chose it, I don’t see this as lazy filmmaking. How did they get any crew for this, probably not, but that doesn’t make this “lazy” or a “lazy style”.
What is lazy is copying what you think is the correct and “unique” style. So you are just doing what’s hip and whatever transitions are good and you basically get “TH-cam” style filmmaking. Now I love TH-cam filmmaking, hell 99% of my learning came from me doing this and I love the career I have now, but it’s freaking way lazier then this style as it’s overused and boring.
Look at any pizza cooking video done with someone with a mirrorless and a light. No matter how good it looks, it’s boring but by your standards “this uses more equipment and doesn’t feel cheap cause of it”. To infer it’s “cheap” and therefore bad is silly. To say it’s overdone, that’s fine.
Swingers was done for cheap, look at the careers it made. So did just about every artists.
What I’m saying is this music video ducks and they knew they only needed this camera to do it. Sometimes that’s the truth, you think you need an m90 to get the job done, but a good gaffer/ DP on a low budget project will use mirrors and appropriate bounce to fill the space and give the effect of an m90. More man power, but yeah it’s cheaper and it works.
