I guess you aren’t the only good one. Lol!!! You really ask for it. Work Beamers on their time, then come home and do your own on your time. WHAT A GUY!!!!! Stay safe and get some rest. You’ve earned it👍🏾
Hi there Shawn and Kelly no you didn't get long winded or boring I love the tech stuff in your garage so interesting I could watch it for hours thanks, take care see you tomorrow 😀👍🇬🇧 Rob and Lynne.
I usually let my bike sit overnight before doing the valves as it supposed to be done cold. So let's say on a Friday I'll come home on the bike, put it on the center stand and dump the oil and filter, do the valves and everything else the next day. Those adjusters look a lot like the ones on my hexhead. As far as hacks, I don't do flat rate, it's my bike, so there's fast, good and cheap. I work cheap and I am not fast, so I will concentrate on good. BTW, Fortnine did a video on oil analysis on new bikes and RE came out as the cleanest oil for new engines BMW was #2, in which it was his assertion as to whom made the best engine. As far as clearances the hexhead is .15mm and .30mm. That RE engine has tight specs.
Love shop time with Shawn! You have a very good tone and explain things very clearly. I'm surprised either BMW or BRP haven't tried to recruit you as an Instructor! Almost Hump Day! See you in the morning, maybe. Peace and love.
That was Kool. I’m thinking of checking my valve clearance on my Thunderbird Storm 1700 .... nice to learn a little more in preparation, even though different engine brand 😎 Cheers for sharing
LOL how, it is useless as tutorial.. 20 min video and he is talking random shit for 15 minutes, and skipping couple of very important parts of the job.. :D
Great video as always! Don’t ride 2 wheelers but always enjoy the videos. As a Spyder rider I wonder if you’d ever do more in the way of tech videos on them? Specifically belt adjustment, something the dealers around here just can’t seem to get right😢
Congratulations... Your wife is very very beautiful. I am from Brazil, and i see your videos about Royal Enfield. I have Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 2021 Crome (Mister Clean ). I love these machine
Due to the tight fit, I figured I'd knock the gasket off if I attached it to the cover, so I very carefully aligned the the gasket and cover together on the head... Was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Take your time and be sure it's aligned before bolting the cover down, or the gasket could be damaged. Thanks Christopher!!
So are you saying the hose with the T piece is how you check throttle body balance? If not a demo showing how to balance throttle bodies would be fantastic as it's not talked about in the manual.
I'll use the ports that the T hose is plugged into to measure the vacuum of each throttle body to synchronize them. The adjustments are made via the air bleed screws on each throttle body. The idle speed is controlled by the air bleeds as well, but they must be kept in balance while doing so. I'll do my best to record the procedure..! Thanks Paul!!
How about a video on the Himalayan. Does rotating the engine clockwise give a false reading on the T mark after the intake comes up so you need to go 360 to get TDC. New to Himalayan so rotating clockwise is not the norm for me.
Haven't seen the neighbors horses in quite some time, they may have moved them to one of their other fields... Did say hey to our horse though, crazy ol' Kylee... Lol Thanks David!!
@@davidgreve1081 - Lol, the neighbors do have horses that come up to our fences for affection, I figured that’s what you were talking about. I was thinking that you must really be a long time viewer, because it’s be many years since I’ve filmed that... Thanks David!!
@@TheSmoaksVlogs i been watching you for a Very long time!! How many years? Not sure, but you still had your slant sided Honda pickup, and most of the dogs were puppies. I was recently going to buy a Royal Enfield INT 650 until I found out you have to check the tappets. I am not a mechanic so I will keep looking for my second bike. See if I lived close I could have bought the bike and came over for some lessons? Ride Safe
Just sayin', seems like a lot of work for not following the manufacturer's recommendations. (Where have I heard that before?) A word of caution for non- professional mechanic motorcycle owner, for sure.
On man I loved the evening in the Smoak shop....just loved every minute of it, man this was awesome 👌👍More of this please 😉
That was way cool my man! Exactly how I adjust valves.
“Take your time and do it right”
Put painters tape on valve cover to prevent scratching while removing it

Great shop day Shawn, that 650 is one cool bike. Well, I'm heading out, take care, I'll see y'all tomorrow. God bless, Rob
Calm and cool.. Shawn's like a bike whisperer, doesn't need tools.. he could talk that thing into adjusting itself. 😄
Thanks for the excellent tutorial 👍

Appreciate the tutorial, I'll be trying this on my new GT.
Thanks Steve!! 👍👊

Really enjoyed tech Tuesday Shawn, take care both 😀
👍🇦🇺🦘 text book old school valve adjust 👍
Did you see FortNine’s video on oil analysis? Royal Enfield was top of the list for cleanest oil.
Copy on the top dead center, good job Smoak!
Very interesting explanation 👍 thank you Shawn ✌️
I always wondered how mechanics did that. Not being one myself. Thanks great video
Vidio quality is fantastic

Hi u2 ,fantastic tech talk Shawn .😎👊
Thanks 👍

Great explanatory video. Is the Interceptor the same procedure? 🏍️👍
Is it 5 o' clock yet...keeping it real :)
Enjoyed the 1st service video.
First comment today!
Thanks for showing the valves and tappets on the RE650. Does the Motorex oil effect the way a wet clutch grabs? See you tomorrow!👍🏻
KTM use & recommend Motorex oils and the RE650's use a KTM Duke/RC390 clutch...
You bet. It's actually very good for the clutch..!
Thanks Alberto!!
I do enjoy your tech videos.
You covered your warranty well with video documents 😂
how did you get that gasket to stay in place??? is it easier than having it glued into the top piece?

Good engine in your opinion?
Yessir!
I'm terrified to bring my new Himalayan in for its first check and adjust valves. I'm not sure the dealer where I bought it knows what they are doing.
Getting ready too look at se royal enfield.

Did you give your neighbors horse some loving this morning before you headed off to work? You could give it an alfalfa pellet for her morning treat!

All motorcycles need valve clearance checks.....It's really not that hard.

So nice you can adjust your tappets with a wrench and screw driver. I hate messing with shims although I do it out of necessity. Gotta love simplicity
