Thank you Master!! We are still using native starch superficially spraying it. We cannot produce paper without it!! It improves the strength considerably. Next step cationic starch but we have to improve the water quality before!!! Thank youuu and see you next video 😁

Hi, thank you for that. Yes you are correct. I will talk about all this when I get to that part of the course. But here is a little preview for you.
It is the hydrogen bonding between -OH groups on fibres that hold them together. Starch is the perfect material for improving strength because it provides more -OH groups.
Sadly there is no attraction between native starch and cellulose, so most of what you put in at the wet end ends up going through the effluent plant and into a waterway, reducing BOD/COD. Cationic starch is the answer, then you only need to add as much as you need and it all sticks to the fibre and none goes to the effluent plant. And when you come to reply broke, it stays on the fibre.

Thank you. Though the video was short, it was highly informative. I am selling cassava starch and I wanted to know if people use it in the paper industry. Now, I got the idea!

They modify the starch in a jet cooker with steam.
Then it's mixed into the pulp and jetted onto the fourdrinier.

Hi, u mentioned that raw starch has no affinity with the fiber, can cationic starch be used at the size press?
And what properties amylose and amylopectin parts bring, relevant to paper making?

Can we use starch with rosin for sizing?

Starch can be used with rosin, but starch is not the best material for sizing. The main use of starch is to improve dry strength, cheaply.

Sir retrogradation and gel temperature explain. Native and modified which one is better

Thank you for your question. This section is just a brief history of starch use. I will be covering retrogradation when i do Raw Materials
