    I have to visit Mt. Cuba soon! This was such a well put-together overview of Mt. Cuba's native plants.

    If I may suggest something, it is to not chop up the leaves, but rather just take them where you want to leave them for mulch because there are Lepidoptera that overwinter in leaves and can actually camouflage to look like leaves while in their cocoons. Shredding leaves would harm them, but leaving them whole would give them a chance to make it through to the next stage.

      Yes, that is correct. Leave the leaves and don't shred them.

    Did you not know that many moths and butterflies overwinter in a rolled up fallen leaf? Mulch if you must but don't chop and shred!
