The best version of Never In My Life ever recorded, in my opinion. Leslie was just on fire on this tour. Recorded during the "Night of the Guitar" event at Hammersmith Odeon in London on Nov. 26, 1988.

I've seen 50 years of hard rock and heavy metal from the very beginning to today, and NEVER IN MY LIFE has anyone gotten that thunderous TONE that Leslie does. I was priveledged to see him several times, including the tour where he played this Steinberger/Marshall set up and have never heard anything as spine chilling before or since. He was truly the King of Tone. RIP Leslie.

I was 18 from fiji. Grew up listening to Led Zeppelin and deep purple. Did not like American rock music. Big band was doors .Santana. Came to America. Heard mountain that was it. The search was over. Never heard vocals and guitar like that in my life. 3 piece band. We lost a great one but he left us with the greatest music.

yeah, most people I speak to think West is from down south, especially because of his worldwide smash hit Mississippi Queen. He was actually born in Forest Hills (Queens, NY). However he was raised on jazz and the blues, and thats why its so evident in his playing.
People were afraid to approach Leslie (maybe because of his size) until Howard Stern gave him a voice and ear in the mid '80s. Thats when fans learned he was sharp and down to earth, and a very funny guy.

I saw Mountain @ the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester,Ny in the '70's. Has always been one of my favorite concerts as a youngin'. Had front row seats. Opening act was a group called "Faces" with Ron Wood and Rod Stewart. Quite a night, I think?

i saw this tour liverpool royal court 88 and at the end of t/f/a//i/western there was an eerie silence i dont think many people were expecting what leslie had just done (stunned).typical scouse humour one voice says can you play anything heavy.leslie says you want heavy.the next two and a half minutes was the most incredible volume level, crunch tone ,ive heard he shook that building and if i listen hard i can still hear it know thankyou .mr west.

Saw Leslie at Cozy Joe's i n Sayreville back in the 80's . He was fabulous back
then and He is one of my all time favorites. How is he doing. I heard him on
Howard a few weeks ago. What a Mensch; He felt more for his wife than
himself. Hope you can rebound Leslie. I am sure you have many people
hoping you get well and going again.

Many prayers going out to the King of Tone. Last weekend, Leslie had his leg amputated in order to save his life. The operation was a success. Now the toughest part begins, the recovery. We are all behind you Leslie! You have a wonderful family and friends around you. We will lift you up like you've lifted US up. Long live Leslie West!!!!!

I was fortunate enough to see him play twice with West, Bruce and Laing ... then even more fortunate to see Mountain, sans Steve Knight, with Felix Pappalardi - who was simply one of the greatest musical geniuses of his time. Leslie was always at his very best with Felix playing behind him.

Nope. Type in "Santo & Johnny - Sleep Walk 1959" into search bar in youtube for a listen to the entire song played live.
Big ups to Leslie for recreating this instrumental gem & tipping his cap to a few "tone kings" of a long forgotten generation.

Randy never had one guitar idol; a singular influence... but he almost always mentioned Leslie when asked about influences. You can hear Leslie's influence in a lot of Randy's playing. It's subtle but it's definitely there. This guy helped shape, IMHO, the greatest live guitarist of all time.
