What a great review! honestly, I watch a lot of coffee equipment reviews and this one told me exactly what I needed to know simply and clearly with good audio and visuals. Thank you for the effort and time spent creating this review!
I.m about to buy a hand grinder and found your excellent video very informative, interesting and thorough, without getting dull. 10 out of 10 there my coffee loving amigo ! Huge thanks for taking the trouble to record and post
You're welcome jw. I'm really using the grinder a lot and consider it one of the best coffee gadgets I've purchased. Very consistent grinds and I just find it fun and satisfying to use.
There are some people who are so negative about this grinder. I don't see it. I love this grinder. It's just what I was hoping to find one day... a great performing grinder at a very reasonable price. I'm sure you''ll like yours too.
@@michaelerbreviews Each to their own I guess. Looks to be exactly what I am looking for, especially the more stable shaft thanks to extra bearings and the quality of the grinds you showed. Very much looking forward to receiving mine.
Thank you for this video I've been thinking about getting a hand grinder and after seeing this video I've decided to get this one. From what I could see in the video this would be excellent for making the french press grind and the drip grind that I need for my coffee.
I was interested in this unit because you said it provided the best consistency for the course setting for French Press which is what I'm looking for in a grinder. I'm right now reading reviews of this grinder on Amazon and am shocked as to how many problems people have complained of this unit having. I'm seriously reconsidering now.
I can't comment on what other people are experiencing. All I can tell you is that I use this a couple times a day and have done so for over a year. I've not had any issues with it and I would not hesitate one second to buy another one.
Received my Kickstarter Handground a few days ago (black version) and I must say it awesome out of the box! I am really impressed with the grinder build quality and grind consistency for espresso (Setting 1) using La Pavoni Europiccola lever. Will be interesting to see how the first generation grinder from Handground hold up after few bags of coffee beans.
Thanks a lot for the review! I got curious about this grinder and your through review was just what I was looking for. I have a Hario Skerton v.1 and, due to the shaft wabble, it has inconsistency in the output when using it medium to coarse (the one I use!). There is now an improved v.3 (Skerton Pro) I am thinking about buying but, hey, why not give it a try to a different product that seems to have advantages over that well-known grinder!
hi Reviews, Tutorials & Tech, I'm considering buying this grinder, but some of the Amazon reviews of things breaking have made me wonder, what has your experience been over the long-term with this grinder?
What settings did you use for v60 pour over? I wanted to buy this grinder, but some review said that above settings 4, the consistency drop so much. Anyway, great video.
thanks a lot. 3 or 5 min is not a problem, I have read about 10min. The only thing I am already in doubt is that probably there is just two, maximum three steps for espresso, and sometimes it is not enough for a perfect extraction, the steps are so large.
I don't grind for espresso, I grind for pour-over and that takes me 2 minutes. It's probably closer to 4-5 minutes for espresso since it is such a find grind... also depends on how fast you crank.
Thanks for the great review! How long can you expect the burrs to last? Is there a way to revitalize them after some use or do you have to replace them? Are these replaceable in this model or should you just buy a whole new unit? Thanks!
I do not know what the life expectancy of the burrs are. I'll email the company and see what they say. I would assume that it is cheaper to replace the burrs than to replace the entire unit.
This comes direct from Handground... "The burrs should last for a couple years with normal use. Although they will wear down faster if you are grinding for espresso often. We are arranging to have extra sets of burrs produced in the production run that is going on right now and will have them available to order through our website within a couple months. The cost will be between $15 to $20" So there you have it from the horse's mouth.
How is the coffee grounds retention on this? Also, how easy is the cleaning? You did show it was fairly easy to remove one of the burrs.. Thanks for the review
I have never had to clean mine yet! So coffee grounds retention has not been a problem at all. If I did have to clean it, it would be very easy to do as it disassembles easily, no tools required.
Ted Velez yes it is very similar. It’s actually easier to grind a fine grind because the burrs are taking a smaller “bite” out of the bean. It takes longer to grind fine though.
Hi, great review. My grinder is great at all steps. What I find is that at the 1.5, 2, and 2.5 I do not get a 1:1 ratio. I find that grinds do not pass through the hopper. At 4 the best results. Any thoughts as to why or how to fix that issue?
Not for me. Some beans that are really oily may require a little jiggling once in a while but that's true with just about any grinder that I've used... even my Rancillio.
Hi! how has your Handground been since you got it? :) Im inclined to get this one because the more recommended grinders are so expensive in my country and i found a local retailer of the Handground. Im excited to get one but i keep getting mixed opinions about this. It seems that a lot of people found it to underperform (although i assume that they just got low quality units) while there quite some that are very satisfied with it. As someone who uses the handground, your suggestion will be much appreciated. thanks!
My personal experience with the grinder has been nothing but positive. I use it several times a week for grinding coffee for my pourovers. No issues whatsoever. It takes me about 2 minutes, on a setting of 4, to grind my coffee.
Reviews, Tutorials & Tech im just so eager to finally get good cups with the single origin beans i keep on buying but my grinder is so inconsistent. Im going to give it a shot and get one by the end of the month. Thanks a lot! great video btw :)
What are your thoughts on the Hario Skerton grinder? :) I like & respect that you're a coffee lover. I just experienced the French Press experience and WOWWWWW!!!! I can honestly say, I've had my first cup of coffee after using my French Press. Hence, the search for a manual, ceramic burr grinder. lol (I currently grind my beans with a (gulp!) spinning blade from a $15 dollar MrCoffee electric grinder from Walmart. So, I've heard that steel blades from electric grinders heat the bean up?...hence, producing a bitter taste? (although I don't taste it, per se) Hence, my quest for the perfect grinder. Thanks for posting these reviews. They've been tremendous help. 🤗 ☕️
Blade grinders are terrible. Not only can they heat the grounds, the produce also do not produce a very consistent grind. No to mention that they are very loud. Although I've not used a Hario Skerton, I've used knock-offs of it. Basically it exhibits the same issue that most of these cheaper ceramic hand grinders exhibit. The shaft wobbles and produces an inconsistent grind. The coarser the grind, the more inconsistent it becomes.
Bought one off kick-starter. Nice idea... Save ur money and buy a Commandante C40 mk3 Yeah it's expensive, but it absolutely crushes the handground grinder.
maui mikey The Handground grinder is a capable, affordable coffee grinder. The Commandante C40 mk3 is in a different class. Comparing them is like comparing a Honda to a Bugatti. Get real.
hi dude. since you mention cleaning the burr with water you should have remind us fools that the ceramic burr should be set out to air dry, since it could absorb water and fit differently... if it was my video I would insert an annoying pop up that reminds us to let it dry...
voidremoved It certainly wouldn't hurt to let the burr air dry. However Handground makes no specific recommendation to do so handground.com/cleaning-and-calibrating-handground-coffee-grinder#cleaning-burr You can also run a small amount of rice through grinder which also does a good job of cleaning the burr.
What a great review! honestly, I watch a lot of coffee equipment reviews and this one told me exactly what I needed to know simply and clearly with good audio and visuals. Thank you for the effort and time spent creating this review!

That pour over grind was as good as I've, seen by the way.
Thankyou!

Julian L So some time has passed. Did you get the grinder and how are you liking it?
I'm about to order one of these and your video convinced me. Looks to be a great little grinder and very simple which I like a lot. Thank you.

This is so much better than the Hario Skerton. The Hario has massive wobble in the burr. This Handground has no wobble. Very consistent grind.
Here is my review of the Skerton Plus th-cam.com/video/s6FL2oaGejc/w-d-xo.html

Hey I was wondering some people say it very inconsistent at level 8 coarse grind fo French press have you found this to be problem thanks
I do not think the grind is inconsistent although I usually use a medium grind and not so much a coarse grind
hello, friend. do you think this grinder is enough good for espresso too? is there sufficient steps to adjust? it takes a long time grinding? thanks
Vinicius Sartori yes it is sufficient for espresso grind. No manual grinder is fast for espresso grind. It takes about three minutes I'd say.
thanks a lot. 3 or 5 min is not a problem, I have read about 10min. The only thing I am already in doubt is that probably there is just two, maximum three steps for espresso, and sometimes it is not enough for a perfect extraction, the steps are so large.

Wow, fantastic! Thanks so much for finding out that!
My handground handle is loose and keeps falling i couldn't stick it back could you please explain how i can fix it
Don't really know. I'd contact Handground directly. support@handground.com
might be factory fault
There's a tiny hex screw that can be tightened with the included alan key. You need to tighten it once in a while.

Hi ✋🏻Micheal Do you know how I get this grinder ?! I am from middle East Dose Amazon has this grinder?! and thank you for this review. 🙏🏻
The Handground website has this list of International Distributors. handground.com/handground-international-distributors
Sir is the fine grind for espresso comparable to your expensive machine? Is it hard to crank on fine?
Ted Velez yes it is very similar. It’s actually easier to grind a fine grind because the burrs are taking a smaller “bite” out of the bean. It takes longer to grind fine though.
Thanks for the reply Sir! Your the only one who showed multiple grind samples, good job and great review! I clicked like.

Hi! I'm wondering about its durability. How does it hold up? Really great review, BTW
I've had mine for about 1 1/2 years and it gets daily use. It's held up perfectly. I take care of things.
Reviews, Tutorials & Tech ok then. And do the beans often get clogged?
Not for me. Some beans that are really oily may require a little jiggling once in a while but that's true with just about any grinder that I've used... even my Rancillio.
Reviews, Tutorials & Tech ok. This grinder definitely goes into my wishlist. Thanks so much for the replies
It's an awesome grinder. I use mine just about every day.
