Truly one of the best-if not the best review-I have seen for the review of this razor-but more importantly-general shaving principles and the construction of this razor. For example, -mentioning the weight as a plus for a new safety razor shaver-and the Rockwell 6s’s ability to rinse off the lather during the shave because of the lather channels. I have binge watched many videos and never heard anyone mention this-which may be in part because of your wonderful fastidious nature in washing the blade off during the second pass. I rarely comment on videos, but your comprehensive, meaningful and pragmatic review was and is a work of art in itself. Thank you very much.
@@ScottRLeslie you truly have talent with your perception and thought process-main advice (not sure why thinking this-maybe when you slightly backed away from comparison to a less heavy razor and you stopped self gave me impression you may doubt self way too much- ) would be to trust yourself implicitly...I just purchased the razor and two for by brothers and got Gillette nancit blades based on brief reviews of them you had... thank you again
This is the most in depth review of the Rockwell 6S razor I have seen. I have not been DE shaving for long because I like to straight razor shave. Part of what I like better about straight razors is that they are inherently cleaner as I shave. I have shaved several times with the 6S and found it to be a great razor. Recently, after shaving with a more expensive razor, I noticed the gunk you mentioned on the underside of the blade. I will have to revisit the 6S and get observe it’s inherent cleanliness!
It actually just occurred to me, one of the big advantages to the Rockwell razor is that you get changeable settings along with a simple, easy to clean razor with no internal mechanical components for adjustments.
This review would serve Rockwell quite well if they put it on their website with the 6S. It has solidified my choice in buying this razor and I haven’t even gotten it yet! You definitely made the case for how and why this razor is superior to many razors that cost more, and yet it has many fantastic qualities & features that even they don’t have. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video. I’m confident that this will likely be the last DE Razor I will ever need to buy. Cheers.
Great review, in depth and explaining all the relevant things that I wished to know. So much more than watching most of the other videos. On the bad side, I am now about to order a 6S :)
Excellent comprehensive review. Got my 6s last week based on your previous 6S videos. 3 shaves so far and all of them have resulted in BBS. Not sure how you can beat that. And you were correct, no issues (head size) for under the nose or chin area. Considering it is SS, the value is just incredible compared to other SS razors on the market. Cheers and thanks!
Enjoyed the thoroughness of your review. I have the 6C. It is a pleasure. I don't need another razor, but I'm very curious to know the effective difference between the 6C and the 6S. Your enthusiasm, though I expect no earth-shaking difference between the 6C and the 6S, has nudged me closer now to "flipping the bill" for a razor that I don't actually need. Just the same, thanks for such a thorough review.
Thanks for the explanation on what's behind the exceptional blade stability and the surprising information about the hidden value of the lather channels. I ordered this baby mainly because I instantly fell in love with the looks of it. The matte finish, the style of knurling, the handle size, and definitely the unique look of the plate with all its features that lend a kind of functional or 'tech' feel to it. At that time there were not many reviews of the razor, but what could be found was favorable. Well, who could've known that it also proves to be a winner performance-wise. It's ridiculous! :)))
Thanks for such a great and thorough review. I'm a relatively new DE shaver and getting to the point where I want to upgrade my experience from my Wilkinson Sword beginners butterfly opening razor to something better. I've watched w lot of videos and decided I wanted something adjustable, and after considering the truly adjustable mid shave ones have homed in instead on a Rockwell 6S or 6C as I sense (and your review has helped) it is more solid and reliable and will last me a long time (hopefully for life). I'll take the plunge in the next few weeks. Will see if anyone offers any Black Friday discounts. Rockwells 20% pop up discount sounded great until I saw they wanted £30 shipping to UK (I can't understand why it was so much. The website supposedly took me to the EU website and I'd have thought shipping would be much less). Anyway I'll get one soon. One suggestion for improvement would be including some sort of case. When one buys even a cheap electric razor it always comes with a plastic pouch for it. I realise that an expensive case would put the price up but even a cheap plastic one that one could use for storage and travel would be an asset. Thanks again for the great video!

This will sound funny but I wish the video went on longer than 20 minutes lol. You were very detailed and honest about the razor. $99 is a great deal for a stainless steel adjustable razor. I'm a open comb fan myself and the only closed comb I enjoy is the Slim Adjustable. I'll have my fingers crossed for the 6s to be under this year's Christmas tree 🎄😁

Great video. I had already ordered one when I saw after you posted it in Shave Market. It is interesting that the Machine Injected Molded (MIM) parts are new to shaving. (I read that somewhere and can't find the source.) They are prevalent in cheaper or less expensive handguns. Many 1911 style handguns use MIM parts and are not well thought of. As a copetitive shooter I avoid or change out MIM when possible in my handguns. Highend guns are painstakingly hand fitted parts from bar stock. I don't see how it would be a big detractor to a razor. I am excited to see how this stacks up against my Merkur 37c. Again, great explanation on everything with the razor!
I have no doubt that today's mfg processes are better than they were even 25 years ago. Still, having used both, if I want something fine tuned that will last, I will use a non mim part. My experience has shown that it holds up better under pressure.
Great review. Just received mine in the mail today and the packaging alone is amazing. Rockwell have truly designed a fine piece here. This is the 2nd review i've watched on this razor and, when including mine, all three boxes are different. The one that I received comes in a plain black cardboard box, with a nice soft, padded like box inside that has the Rockwell logo embossed on the top. Along the sides is a mirror like design which gives it a very elegant look First thing I noticed when I unpacked it was the weight. I'm very new to the wet-shaving but between my black tip, EJDE89 and Murker classic, I barely notice any difference in weight. The RW6s though is MUCH heavier. Great, informative video Scott. I got one delivered to the UK inside 3 days! I'll be on setting 3 tomorrow, and have enjoyed 1 and 2 so far. The superb quality of the build, and fantastic service from Rockwell make this a great razor to own. Tell me, do you shave with the 5 every day or every few days? I was thinking that as I shave 7 days a week I may not get up to 6, too much blade.
Damn good video. I don't see why any shave reviews should necessarily have shaving in it. Reviews need more talk to explain what the product is all about. I used my Rockwell 6S today with just plate 1/3 and a Gillette Super Platinum yellow on its third 3-pass shave. Like you said the Rockwell allows you to play with different blades and settings. Like you, I like the fact that its matte stainless Steel with bead blasting. Its an idiot proof razor. No moving parts means the razor works the same through its life time (most probably ours actually). Great review and I got to learn a few things, especially about that gunk buildup. Didn't strike me before!!
scott this was the best video on the rockwell 6S to date. I'd been on the fence about buying one. This video was the nail in the coffin for me. thank you! i got mine 3 days ago and am working my way up from 1-6. i tried setting 3 today on my third day. and i noticed on mine when i use plate 2/4 it's a really tight fit. i was wondering if you had this problem or if it's just me? for me i got to partially unscrew the head from the handle and push down on the sides of the plate or hold the sides and push gently on the screw post. so i was wondering if yours had a similar issue with any of the plates? the finish on the side post holes on that one plate of mine are getting a little shiny, as well as the side posts, it's also getting easier to get that plate on and off since it's polishing and wearing down the part that it's catching on. It's not a problem at all. thanks.

Since my last comment I got the 6S and a couple of synthetic brushes (Razorock Big Bruce, Simpson Chubby 2 synthetic) and couldn't be happier. I also got a lovely stoneware lathering bowl which has really helped with my lathering. For my shave tomorrow, I'll be trying blade I've never tried before (Astra Super Platinum) and actually look forward to my next shave 😀
Very nice review indeed but I disagree in the part where you present the up and down blade moving of certain DE razors (fortunately not all!) as an advantage over SE razors which don't have as much flex. Actually it's the other way around. The minimal flex that SEs have is an advantage over DE razors because it makes shaving more comfortable and less prone to cuts. Fortunately there are also DE razors designed to hold the blade with much rigidity resulting in better shaves. On the contrary, when the blade is not held firmly in place it's usually easier to cut oneself and end up with more irritations. But that's just my opinion :-)
also this razor is maybe the best I have in my den, yes and shaving under the nose is very easy, the problem I have with my merkur futur razors and with other ones . The nice thing is that I don't have to put effort on the razor , the weight does the job and also the length of the handle is just correct to give me a nice balance. regards robert
I have seen a few videos where they say that the 6c chrome glides across the skin much better than the 6s. Have you done a comparison between the 2 razors.
Scott, I have the Merkur Futur and since you have one as well, what is your experience between the Rockwell 6s and Futur and which do you prefer? Thank you.
merkur futur is great only the problem is that you can not shave well under the nose, in my opinion 6S or 6C is much better , shave feels easier and smoother
Man do I agree with you on razor makers not utilizing the holes in the blades. Above the Tie uses those stupid little nubs, PAA DOC has little slots. What the hell? By the way, excellent review and I'm also with you on longer handles. My Rockwell is on it's way, I can't wait.
I'm not familiar with the new Gillettes, I'll have to check that out. By the way, the Rockwell has overnight made it's way for a tie with my R41 for my #1 spot. Thanks
I do not. It’s a terrific DE razor, however I’m no longer a DE razor user! Once I discovered SE razors, with their thicker, more rigid blades, I never went back! Thanks for watching!
well I did use with this razor several blades and yes you are right, for instance with the astra green blade and dorco blades it is not easy to place the blade ( the diference in diameter of the hole in the blade is very very insignificant but still not open enough, the blade can be placed but sometimes not so easaly as with other blades ), with the lord blade and all the range of gillette blades I have no problem.
Their system is crap..as you stated for the reasons you stated...nice looking though..but that's all...my progress is much better Good detail on the razor...the best so far...As a matter of fact...most shavers do not take apart their razors in a three pass shave..feel free to argue your point......6C. May be worth the trouble
+William M Trexler I never change aggression level mid-shave. But I DO select a certain setting pre-shave. The 6S is one of the smoothest razors I own.

Yes, I actually found that video yesterday. Thanks :)
Feather AS-D2....that's all you need to know. Once you get it you can stop.....lol
Tony Marinelli I agree, but I very much prefer the slot blade alignment like the Gillette NEW.
I'm not familiar with the new Gillettes, I'll have to check that out. By the way, the Rockwell has overnight made it's way for a tie with my R41 for my #1 spot. Thanks
Hi. Do you use this razor now? What do think about this razor today?
I do not. It’s a terrific DE razor, however I’m no longer a DE razor user! Once I discovered SE razors, with their thicker, more rigid blades, I never went back! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the vid keep um coming!
Which one razor blade would you recommend for smoothness...?
Voskhod
Scott got my Rockwell and I have several brands of blades that will not go over the posts! Have you had that issue?
No, can’t say I have. Hmm
well I did use with this razor several blades and yes you are right, for instance with the astra green blade and dorco blades it is not easy to place the blade ( the diference in diameter of the hole in the blade is very very insignificant but still not open enough, the blade can be placed but sometimes not so easaly as with other blades ), with the lord blade and all the range of gillette blades I have no problem.
I use muhle 41r is this 6s as aggressive on 6
Nope. Nothing is. Haven’t tried the ikon tech yet.
Excellent video, I’m subscribed !
Thank you
Do you like it for a head shave?
+Jeffrey Meek Sr. Yes indeed I do!!
Xlnt review 👍
Thank you!
+Jeffrey Meek Sr. Thank you my friend!
i guess you can switch the number between passes
Liked, subscribed, shared 😀
mostly use it for head shaving as i have a beard
I highly disagree, about the flexing of a blade being a good thing.
Their system is crap..as you stated for the reasons you stated...nice looking though..but that's all...my progress is much better
Good detail on the razor...the best so far...As a matter of fact...most shavers do not take apart their razors in a three pass shave..feel free to argue your point......6C. May be worth the trouble
+William M Trexler I never change aggression level mid-shave. But I DO select a certain setting pre-shave. The 6S is one of the smoothest razors I own.
I'm not sure that it's made in usa
