Hey Rick / AK - great video. I struggle to shoot 3rd gen through my airbrush. Can you do an updated video on how to airbrush 3rd gen? It would be useful to see examples on real models etc.

@RobPearlman - Look for full tutorials covering the use of 3rd Gen paints and their application techniques - including airbrush. In short, the 3rd Gen has a high level of pigment within the paints, providing wonderful coverage when brush painting. As you move to the airbrush you will find that the paints do require thinning, recommended AK11500 Acrylic Thinner. The ratio of thinner to paint will depend upon your local atmosphere, climate, size, type of airbrush/needle, and the type of results you hope to achieve, i.e., overall coverage or small details. My experience is that the thinner-to-paint ratio is higher than with other brands of acrylic paints. I will begin at approximately 30-70 thinner to paint, test, and then adjust, usually adding more thinner until I achieve a smooth flow. This often leads to a ratio closer to 50-50 thinner to paint. The first layer of paint applied should be very light coverage, basically a surface preparation, and then proceed with additional layers to add opacity.

My question is and it is a stupid one: can chipping effects be used from the brush? As I have no access to a airbrush, but I can sometimes be a little lazy sometimes when it comes to modelling.

Hello, Yes you can apply it with a brush, but you have to be careful that the layer of product is not too thick and must be homogeneous. The secret is to apply and let the product dry before painting the next coat of acrylic. The method of application is not important. We hope we have answered your questions.

Hello, "The ideal is to protect each weathering effect after application with a coat of varnish (no matter what type). In this way it will not be damaged or removed at later stages of the work".

As mentioned, the application of a varnish layer (of any type) after chipping will protect the results. Keep in mind that the chipping fluids are activated by water or water-based products. If you choose an acrylic varnish apply with multiple, thin layers, allowing each to dry before adding the next. You don't want to flood the surfaces with more moisture.

Useless products unless you are using acrylic paints for top colors. Don't work with enamels, lacquers or even acrylics with solvent base like Mr. Hobby acrylics. Hairspray is still the best chipping fluid for all paints.
