This game was such a special part of my childhood. Sooo much nostalgia. Whenever being an adult becomes too overwhelming I come here to watch this play through. True. Back then in the early 2000’s I played this game in japanese. I remember trying out EVERY option to learn what happened and to my surprise I completed the game. Of course I never knew what was going on hahahahahaha but this was a real Sailor Moon RPG and I had to play it!!
It funny, at first I thought this game was going to be a pointless cash-grab, poor tie-in trash. But it's pretty solid. It's no final fantasy, but it's a lot better than it really needed to be, and I appreciate the effort put in.
It probably took me a billion tries before I finally beat Nabu, which im sure we can all remember, until i found this video. It helped me out cause I litterally had to go through maybe 13 walkthroughs until i found a solid one that showed me EXACTLY what i needed to do. Thanks for the help!

This game is amazing currently playing the 4th chapter on my emulator. Would love to have the actual physical copy for my video game collection. Hands down this the best Sailor Moon game I've ever played. Very well done and awesome video thank you. You helped me out during some tough spots in the game.
Damn addictive game, this one, kinda wish they could remake it in 3D and release it on PS4, XBOX ONE and PC. Also 4:37 Has she forgotten who she was a long time ago? As powerful as she is at this point, she could easily step out of retirement, gather the old gang and kick ass as they'be always done.
I think at one point she says that once she became Neo Queen Serenity she lost the ability to transform into sailor moon or something since she's now queen of earth/the moon. Hence why in the manga/anime she sends her daughter back in time to train with her old self so Chibiusa could become the new sailor moon.
I played this when the translation was brand new and it was a pleasant surprise. Cannot compare with the greatest SNES JRPGs of the same era, but considering the average of most licensed games back then (never complain about how they do them today, the average was even lower in the past), they did a really good job. The combat system, with so few MP for each character even if it was recharged after each fight, forced to use a lot of strategy during boss fights, as after some turns you had to proceed with healing and recharges while still worrying about fending off attacks; experimenting with combined attacks was also very fun. Last but not least the plot, even if it used some "cheap" tropes (evil/misguided counterparts, resurrection of old enemies...), it used them well and even got some elements from the manga rather than just the anime, resulting in the ultimate experience for fans - but still perfectly enjoyable for everyone else.
In my honest opinion, I say that they should have definitly animated this as a movie special. I'm seriously considering going to the studio that is making sailor moon crystal currently, and ask them to make it. I would change the WORLD.

Wow! Take a careful look at the 9:21:52 Moon's quotation: "If love is captured with evil power, then it's not true love." That's such a powerful and breathtaking phrase. It's true indeed: love above all things is what would make mankind's life much better than it is today (and than it was in many episodes of the human history).
Okay, but really. If this game is completely it's own thing story-wise -- as I am a newcomer to the Sailor franchise, so I'm not sure -- this seems like such an interesting story. A bit convoluted with the reviving of dead enemies, time travel and kidnappings, but the moments of Usagi seeing her past like at 9:34:19, and meeting her own mother at 9:35:15 .... seem really interesting plot points for episodes, arcs, heck even a whole film. And 10:03:01 Imagine seeing your own corpse. Like, yeesh man.
In the future Crystal Tokyo, a small band of discontent citizens have come together to form a rebel team of Senshi called the Oppositio Senshi, who feel that the Sailor Senshi and the Silver Crystal are the source of all of Earth's past battles. Together witn a mysterious woman named Apsu, they desire to twist time and change the destiny of the Earth. In the present day, the Sailor Senshi are enjoying peace now that the Death Busters have been defeated. However, strange things begin happening in the city. Previously defeated Daimons, Droids and Youma appear throughout the city. A visit by Ryo Urawa reveals a cryptic statement that the past and future are being replaced. The strangeness doesn't end there- Hotaru grows from a baby into a child in matter of minutes, Rei sees strange apparitions in the fire, and then the four Inner Senshi, along with Chibiusa go missing. Sailor Moon meets up with Uranus, Neptune, and Saturn to go look for the missing Senshi. They are told to go Juuban Junior High School and rescue Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus, who were trapped in illusions. On the roof, they find Chibiusa being held captive by Sin, the leader of the Oppositio Senshi. Sin demands that Sailor Moon gives her the Silver Crystal and Sailor Moon accepts, but Tuxedo Mask refuses and in return the Oppositio Senshi unleash a devastating attack. Tuxedo Mask is hit by the blast and injured, and Sailor Saturn in injured by a energy beam from Sin before her group leaves.
This was a pretty good fan translation, but it I would have done some things differently. First are the japanese honorifics. I know they are a good way to show character relationships, but I would have removed them, they just don't sound so good in this translation. Second, some things have been left untranslated. The biggest offender is the silver crystal that is called the Ginzuishou. Weirdly enough, the intro movie does tell that it is "the legendary mystic silver crystal", but after that it is always just Ginzuishou, while it should have always been called just "silver crystal". I think there are more untranslated words, but can't remember them all. But for an early snes game translation, it's very nice work. It seems that this translation was released in 1999.
Z. Saber In the German version of the series Serena's name is 'Bunny', however she is often enough called 'Usagi'. As a child I thought it might mean something like sweetheart in Japanese, but it was simply her actual name that was falsely forgotten to be replaced by 'Bunny'.
Personally, I kinda like that the name of the crystal remains untranslated as if it were the actual name of the stone (like personifying it like one would name their car, their sword, or their gun) as opposed to the series of words used to describe it for what it is. The stone is powerful enough to have a name, as are a few other Sailor Crystals mentioned and explored in the manga. Barazuishou, however, isn't a Takeuchi creation that I am aware of. It's basically a stand-in for Mamoru's Sailor Crystal (yeah, despite being male and not able to be a Senshi because Takeuchi-sensei's fundamental rule on that is that only females can be Senshi as we know and understand the concept... fun fact: Takeuchi-sensei actually encourages fan faction media and has a tendency to read various fan works as she can and thus felt she had to lay down some rules for how to write Sailor Moon better, the female-only-Senshi rule being chief among them), which in the Manga was the Golden Crystal. The Golden Crystal, in the game's defense, was not a thing until the 4th plot arc (Sailor Moon SuperS and the game's plot only covers elements of the first three arcs (Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, and Sailor Moon S). There is no indication or leaning toward any plot element of Sailor Moon StarS (The 5th and final plot arc... inclusion would have made it more science fictiony... no joke. StarS was Fighting Magical Girl sci-fi lite). It is reasonable to say that, despite the game's release being, apparently, 1995, the developers didn't add in any elements of SuperS or StarS.... just as well, you COULD re-translate (or rather, retcon, I should say) Barazuishou from "Rose Crystal" to "Golden Crystal"... The honourifics are not inherently bad, honestly, in my opinion.
Yea, Ginzuishou, Barazuishou, and nijizuishou are all left untranslated. It’s silly because they’re not made up Fantasy words - they can be literally translated into “silver crystal”, “rose crystal”, and “rainbow crystals” respectively. The translation also inconsistently handles Mugen Gakuen by sometimes calling it that and other times calling it Infinity Academy (again, a literal translation - no reason to leave it in Japanese). The game also refers to Beryl’s generals as Shittenou. That one is a little more complicated as it is a reference to Hindu/Buddhist gods as well as the original Japanese name for Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoicite, And Kunzite collectively.
No. Keep the honorifics. The series should be called "Bishoujo Youhei Sailor Moon" ("Pretty Girl Mercenary Sailor Moon"), not "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon" if you remove them. (Then again, one of the players on the 2010 San Francisco Giants embraced being called a mercenary as they won title 6.)
Kinda reminded me of chrono trigger a little..Not a bad game actually. Very easy for the first half but got pretty darn hard as the game progressed towards the end.
God, that last boss took forever. I did it several levels too early, using only the inner senshi since I thought that was the requirement for the best ending. To make matters worse, I used a poor formation. So I was doing like 1/3 of the damage per round compared to this. It must have taken an hour. Now I see this, and I'm soooo salty. :(
If you have used manicure or fragrance in some boss battles they wouldn't take much to end. Also put the strongest always on the front and the weakest on behind. Having pluto in the team is also a good idea
I enjoyed playing this game tbh. My only gripe was that the boss music was kind of meh. If there was a modded version where they replaced the boss theme with the one in Final Fantasy IV then I'm all on that.
I played the original fan-translation of this (you know, the one where "Hell Flamebird" was translated as "Hell Lame Heart"), and still enjoyed it. Story-wise, what amuses me the most is that the Oppositio Senshi have the names of Babylonian gods that correspond to the Inner Senshi they resemble (even Sin, who is named for the Babylonian god of the moon), and it's apparently entirely a coincidence.
this guy not saving the game gives me chills... what if the electricity went down? oh this part when they started to journey solo was a decisive point... I've to decide if i was gonna dedicate to infinite grinding or abandon the game... I chose the first and finished it! but sailor Neptune was so weak at the start, rofl!!

- 6:48:00-6:49:00 - You know, I find it somewhat advanced arguably that the lines the Sailor Scouts all use, the order they use them in when put in the party, and even special dialogue like Mars running into Nergal if you have her on your team, all are things that can happen on a SNES... Same for games that let you use all sorts of equipment changes and even shows them during cutscenes, like Kingdom Hearts with what keyblade your using (especially noticable in II with Sora fighting Roxas. :p), and like, Animal Crossing all the way back in the Gamecube days, or even older for the original Japanese, the Nintendo 64, having tons of extra animal villagers in the data, coming and going over time, having a random set of them... how do you manage to program all those specifics in like that...? It's cool though and kind of realistic, it makes things feel somewhat alive, and I like that. :p - 6:50:00 - Holy Berry...? Damn, that gives me strong Wild Arms 1 vibes... they have a lot of healing berries in that series, and I think the Holy Berry was the name of the item meant to cure someone's father, and the main character Rudy tried to help him for his intro arc, but it unsealed the first boss and caused a minor earthquake, and he was outcasted because of his powers despite what he tried to do to help... (Then halfway in the game you find out he's an android and has always been an outcast, besides the two friends or so he's made. ._. Poor Rudy. :( That isn't to say your other partners Jack and Cecilia have it any easier)... Sorry for commenting so much about so many things, some things not even related to the video but random things I'm remembering, I can't help myself. XD But yeah, I love tragic characters, such as Hotaru/Saturn in this. ^^; (Edit: ... Was there an item that just said Crystal Burger? o.O What the heck is a Crystal Burger? XD Well, at least the burger didn't come from the trash like in the beginning of EarthBound, LOL. :p) - 8:00:00-8:15:00 - Dang, that midway climatic battle with Rubeus seemed kind of tough. o.O Seems like the game is starting to get a bit harder now. :p
FFXII'S superboss Yiazmat makes this game's bosses look like target practice! I've fought worse in Super Mario World, The Doom Series, FFIII, FFX, FFXII, Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out COMBINED!! Don't get me wrong, the game, overall was killer (just like the Anime and Manga), but the bosses could've been a bit more......unpredictable, first playthrough I attempted, I considered Mistress 9 to be the toughest in the game.....badder than Bowser when he's bigger than the Empire State Building and severely pissed, and all I had taking 9 on was Usagi (which would've been better if her whole team was backing her up, because I was on my last legs before I got that lucky killshot I needed!)
The part with Mercury going solo was terrible: you've got to keep her in the back row to not be totaled immediately, while the first fights take forever. Useless to say, the emulators' speed-up functions help a lot. At least after raking the first XP things get better.
How I get the chest in the world castle at the northpole ? If sailor senshi mix attack power is easier to play example murcury + neptune jupiter+uranus or moon mercury mar jupiter venus (use all crystal 12)

If your max HP for Usagi is seemingly only 87 HP and it heals 200 HP, shouldn't you save those and use cheaper healing items, even if you have a fair amount of them? Seems a little reckless I think. :p - 6:14:00-6:15:00 - LOL, I love how you can run as fast as a freaking car in this game, keeping up with it's pace. XD Also, poor Mercury being left hanging when she told Usagi who told Chibiusa the good news that Mamo is better, with Luna following them. ^^; Also, this may sound kind of weird, but the way Mercury said "Hello? ... Hello?" reminds me of that one oddly named horror game. :p (Edit: LOL, Mercury even scolds her a little bit saying she properly say goodbye and hang up instead of rushing off. XD I guess you can't really blame her though in this situation. ^^; It's not like she would normally do this all the time, right...? ._. Oh, and another thing about Shingo, sure it might be one thing to rush into her room without asking, and they can't exactly reveal their secret identities and what they and their enemies are up to, but he was just worried about Chibiusa, Usagi shouldn't have freaked out on him. ._. And although he's an enemy, arguably an anti-villain though, when Anshar was calling her princess or whatever, I think Chibiusa overreacted at telling him to call her by her name. :p Sigh... those two are always so spoiled, like for Mamo in the 90's anime, I don't know why they couldn't just spend time together. :p And yeah, Chibiusa may have been a pain in the beginning, but I figured they would have worked out their differences over time, since they at least fight together? Sigh... idk. :p)
Played this game on a snes emulator on the pc. I made a lot of progress but I died without saving in the game and in the save stats. Tried to play it again but Iost spirit unfortunately.

Z. Saber In the German version of the series Serena's name is 'Bunny', however she is often enough called 'Usagi'. As a child I thought it might mean something like sweetheart in Japanese, but it was simply her actual name that was falsely forgotten to be replaced by 'Bunny'.
Personally, I kinda like that the name of the crystal remains untranslated as if it were the actual name of the stone (like personifying it like one would name their car, their sword, or their gun) as opposed to the series of words used to describe it for what it is. The stone is powerful enough to have a name, as are a few other Sailor Crystals mentioned and explored in the manga. Barazuishou, however, isn't a Takeuchi creation that I am aware of. It's basically a stand-in for Mamoru's Sailor Crystal (yeah, despite being male and not able to be a Senshi because Takeuchi-sensei's fundamental rule on that is that only females can be Senshi as we know and understand the concept... fun fact: Takeuchi-sensei actually encourages fan faction media and has a tendency to read various fan works as she can and thus felt she had to lay down some rules for how to write Sailor Moon better, the female-only-Senshi rule being chief among them), which in the Manga was the Golden Crystal. The Golden Crystal, in the game's defense, was not a thing until the 4th plot arc (Sailor Moon SuperS and the game's plot only covers elements of the first three arcs (Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, and Sailor Moon S). There is no indication or leaning toward any plot element of Sailor Moon StarS (The 5th and final plot arc... inclusion would have made it more science fictiony... no joke. StarS was Fighting Magical Girl sci-fi lite). It is reasonable to say that, despite the game's release being, apparently, 1995, the developers didn't add in any elements of SuperS or StarS.... just as well, you COULD re-translate (or rather, retcon, I should say) Barazuishou from "Rose Crystal" to "Golden Crystal"... The honourifics are not inherently bad, honestly, in my opinion.
Yea, Ginzuishou, Barazuishou, and nijizuishou are all left untranslated. It’s silly because they’re not made up Fantasy words - they can be literally translated into “silver crystal”, “rose crystal”, and “rainbow crystals” respectively.
The translation also inconsistently handles Mugen Gakuen by sometimes calling it that and other times calling it Infinity Academy (again, a literal translation - no reason to leave it in Japanese).
The game also refers to Beryl’s generals as Shittenou. That one is a little more complicated as it is a reference to Hindu/Buddhist gods as well as the original Japanese name for Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoicite, And Kunzite collectively.
No. Keep the honorifics. The series should be called "Bishoujo Youhei Sailor Moon" ("Pretty Girl Mercenary Sailor Moon"), not "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon" if you remove them. (Then again, one of the players on the 2010 San Francisco Giants embraced being called a mercenary as they won title 6.)

Kinda reminded me of chrono trigger a little..Not a bad game actually. Very easy for the first half but got pretty darn hard as the game progressed towards the end.

God, that last boss took forever. I did it several levels too early, using only the inner senshi since I thought that was the requirement for the best ending. To make matters worse, I used a poor formation. So I was doing like 1/3 of the damage per round compared to this.
It must have taken an hour. Now I see this, and I'm soooo salty. :(

If you have used manicure or fragrance in some boss battles they wouldn't take much to end. Also put the strongest always on the front and the weakest on behind. Having pluto in the team is also a good idea

I enjoyed playing this game tbh. My only gripe was that the boss music was kind of meh. If there was a modded version where they replaced the boss theme with the one in Final Fantasy IV then I'm all on that.

I played the original fan-translation of this (you know, the one where "Hell Flamebird" was translated as "Hell Lame Heart"), and still enjoyed it.
Story-wise, what amuses me the most is that the Oppositio Senshi have the names of Babylonian gods that correspond to the Inner Senshi they resemble (even Sin, who is named for the Babylonian god of the moon), and it's apparently entirely a coincidence.
The translation on this video is pretty outdated and it's the mistranslated one.

- 6:48:00-6:49:00 - You know, I find it somewhat advanced arguably that the lines the Sailor Scouts all use, the order they use them in when put in the party, and even special dialogue like Mars running into Nergal if you have her on your team, all are things that can happen on a SNES... Same for games that let you use all sorts of equipment changes and even shows them during cutscenes, like Kingdom Hearts with what keyblade your using (especially noticable in II with Sora fighting Roxas. :p), and like, Animal Crossing all the way back in the Gamecube days, or even older for the original Japanese, the Nintendo 64, having tons of extra animal villagers in the data, coming and going over time, having a random set of them... how do you manage to program all those specifics in like that...? It's cool though and kind of realistic, it makes things feel somewhat alive, and I like that. :p
- 6:50:00 - Holy Berry...? Damn, that gives me strong Wild Arms 1 vibes... they have a lot of healing berries in that series, and I think the Holy Berry was the name of the item meant to cure someone's father, and the main character Rudy tried to help him for his intro arc, but it unsealed the first boss and caused a minor earthquake, and he was outcasted because of his powers despite what he tried to do to help... (Then halfway in the game you find out he's an android and has always been an outcast, besides the two friends or so he's made. ._. Poor Rudy. :( That isn't to say your other partners Jack and Cecilia have it any easier)... Sorry for commenting so much about so many things, some things not even related to the video but random things I'm remembering, I can't help myself. XD But yeah, I love tragic characters, such as Hotaru/Saturn in this. ^^; (Edit: ... Was there an item that just said Crystal Burger? o.O What the heck is a Crystal Burger? FFXII'S superboss Yiazmat makes this game's bosses look like target practice! I've fought worse in Super Mario World, The Doom Series, FFIII, FFX, FFXII, Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out COMBINED!! Don't get me wrong, the game, overall was killer (just like the Anime and Manga), but the bosses could've been a bit more......unpredictable, first playthrough I attempted, I considered Mistress 9 to be the toughest in the game.....badder than Bowser when he's bigger than the Empire State Building and severely pissed, and all I had taking 9 on was Usagi (which would've been better if her whole team was backing her up, because I was on my last legs before I got that lucky killshot I needed!)
oh man 2 more jigsaw pieces and I'd have find them all in a first-try! life's not perfect i guess...

Everything boils down to level-gating. And some gates are more brutal of a grind than others.
The part with Mercury going solo was terrible: you've got to keep her in the back row to not be totaled immediately, while the first fights take forever. Useless to say, the emulators' speed-up functions help a lot. At least after raking the first XP things get better.

- 6:14:00-6:15:00 - LOL, I love how you can run as fast as a freaking car in this game, keeping up with it's pace. XD Also, poor Mercury being left hanging when she told Usagi who told Chibiusa the good news that Mamo is better, with Luna following them. ^^; Also, this may sound kind of weird, but the way Mercury said "Hello? ... Hello?" reminds me of that one oddly named horror game. :p (Edit: LOL, Mercury even scolds her a little bit saying she properly say goodbye and hang up instead of rushing off. XD I guess you can't really blame her though in this situation. ^^; It's not like she would normally do this all the time, right...? ._. Oh, and another thing about Shingo, sure it might be one thing to rush into her room without asking, and they can't exactly reveal their secret identities and what they and their enemies are up to, but he was just worried about Chibiusa, Usagi shouldn't have freaked out on him. ._. And although he's an enemy, arguably an anti-villain though, when Anshar was calling her princess or whatever, I think Chibiusa overreacted at telling him to call her by her name. :p Sigh... those two are always so spoiled, like for Mamo in the 90's anime, I don't know why they couldn't just spend time together. :p And yeah, Chibiusa may have been a pain in the beginning, but I figured they would have worked out their differences over time, since they at least fight together?
