    I just wanted to say thank you so so much for this! I’m in my 3rd year (going into my 4th in April) and I’ve been working on my portfolio and this came out at the perfect time!

    Yes I'm so excited about this! It definitely makes sense that your portfolio should be easy enough to read through that it wouldn't require a long explanation for someone to figure out what you're trying to do

    Great reminder Zoe Hong, what is available within 20 miles of where you are! Funny your comment on using Upholstery fabrics, back in my days of fashion School there was a charity event where Interior Decorating Fabric Showrooms will give Fashion design Students X amount of fabrics and trimmings to design an outfit to be presented at a benefit fashion show.

What advise do you have for getting some professional experience asap later in life? Love your energy and charisma keep it up!

      Just wanted to thank you for putting yourself back out there and being an inspiration for others! I’m 30, and I’ve always wanted to do fashion design! I’m in a boring corporate position and a mom, and I just laugh at the idea, like really, it’s too late, it’s impossible to do that by now! And to click on this video and see this post! …thank you, you dont even understand ❤❤❤😊

      @@srice3941 Thank you! That is so sweet and means a lot. Looking back at my 30 year old self I think... Wow. I was so young!" Check out these cool facts that prove it's never too late to change your life (:
      Vera Wang was 40 when she started in fashion.
      Stan Lee was 39 when he came up with, what is now, Marvel Comics.
      Samuel Jackson was 43 when he first received a major role in a movie.
      Henry Ford created the first car when he was 45.
      Rodney Dangerfield’s career didn’t really take off until he was 46.
      Julia Child started her career as a chef by writing a cookbook at the age of 50.
      Harland Sanders, aka Colonel Sanders, started Kentucky Fried Chicken when he was 62.

      Take classes, whether it's my Patreon, a local school, some other online resource. Volunteer at any tangentially related event, like backstage at an fashion or theater shows, charity fashion shows, etc and network. Start taking on freelance sewing projects and start building a business reputation through these jobs. Good luck!

    This was so informative and helpful, it's exactly what I needed! I didn't go to fashion school, but worked in corporate fashion and am now pivoting into design. I've learned Clo 3D and Illustrator. My question is should I include 3D renderings in my portfolio to showcase my patterning work (I don't intend on specializing in 3D renderings)? Also I'd love to see more on how to show tech packs in portfolios

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don't show anything you don't want to do at a job. Tech packs can be done as a series of slides or boards or a view/download pdf.

    HI\i Zoe! I am an aspiring fashion designer who has a deep passion for the fashion industry. After completing my Bachelor’s degree in Science, I am now eager to change my career path and apply to a reputable fashion school. However, one of the significant hurdles I face is the high tuition fees, and I am uncertain about how to finance this new journey.

    Thank you so much for your effort it helped a lot but I have a question what if I worked for different companies in the industry and each one has a different style and concept do u think it's important to put every projects in my portfolio or just pick the most important one that speaks out for me as a designer i'm always put all of them to show up my skills but not totally feeling okay about that! Thank u :)

    Thank you so much mam, your video really helped me a lot. I have one query which I would like to ask. I am currently working my design portfolio and I have done final projects including the whole design process, which I will add in my portfolio, but I am kind of more interested in working on the creative design illustrations, 3D illustrations, so should I make a separate portfolio for that, does it has any chance to get accepted by the industry?(Only for the illustration parts.)

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      3D renderings are a desired skill; you should have a page of your website that shows your renderings. List the software you know on your resume and highlight them in any application letters.
