It is one of the six large mainline railway station termini in Paris, France. It serves train services toward Normandy, northwest of Paris, along the Paris-Le Havre railway. Saint-Lazare is the second busiest station in Paris, after the Gare du Nord.
Located in the 8th arrondissement, in the heart of the largest business district in Paris's inner city, Gare Saint-Lazare - built in 1837 - welcomes 120 million visitors a year. Trains depart from the station to serve the west of the Paris Region and Normandy.
With nearly a hundred shops and restaurants spread over 3 levels (metro, street and platform), the station caters for all tastes, both for customers in a hurry and for those wishing to shop at leisure shopping and and enjoy gourmet treats. There is also a sports hall and a business centre.

Paris train stations are legendary. Thank you for watching!
Thanks so much. This is so useful! I will be taking a taxi from gar du Nord after I arrive via the Eurostar. How long do you think I should factor in for the travel from gar du Nord to st lazare ? I arrive at 5 pm on a Friday. Thanks so much for your advice :). Appreciate your advice !
It is about 2 k from one station to the other. Gare du Nord is north east of Saint Lazare. Depending on traffic you could do it in 5 minutes but.......Friday night rush hour......yikes. Also I hope the taxi line is not very long at Gare De Nord. If you get off the train and go right to the taxi area and get a cab and go right there you could do it in 10 minutes.....but......it could also take 30 minutes if there is a long taxi line and bad traffic. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
Great video! We will be coming in on the train from Le Havre and was wondering where we would find the Metro line 14 in the station. It sounds as though when we come in the station after spending the day in Paris that we would go down one level to where the Metro lines are, correct?
Great I worked in Paris came in thru there for 9 years Gare Saint Lazare!! visit several times afterward! Nice video thanks for the memories!
Great Info! Thank you. Do tickets need to be purchased in advance for the train to Caen? Im coming in September from Amsterdam to Gare Nord. Will walk to Saint-Lazare but worried about getting tickets in advance. Thanks again
I would get tickets in advance. I left it until I got to the station and had to buy a first class ticket instead of a second class ticket and it cost a lot more. Plus I hope the train is not sold out!!! Be careful. I would get buy a ticket before. Good Luck! Thank you for watching!
We have tickets for next month from this station to Bayeux. Our tickets are paper that we have printed. How do we validate them at the station? They would not fit into the little yellow validation boxes.
Someone will scan then to allow you on to the platform. You might have to get in a line. If not get your seat and they will come around and check your tickets. Good luck! Thank you for watching!
This was so helpful! I will be taking a train from this station in about 10 days. My hotel is about 2 miles from this train station. Will metros be open at 5 am? 5:30? My train leaves for Normandy at 6 am!
5:30....... that is going to be tight. Uber...Bolt....Taxi.....hmmmmm walk......I might have the hotel order you a taxi....the sun will not be up and I think when in doubt be safe. Good Luck...let me know how it goes. Thank you for watching!
@@leonardsheatravel Thank you!
Thinking about going to D-Day beaches. First time in France. How much French do you need to know? Are there folks at the major hubs like this who speak English?
You can get by.....just be patient. There are 1000s of us english speakers that show up there everyday. If you want to do it....do it....and good luck! Thank you for watching!
How do you get from CDG Airport to Gare Saint Lazare??
RER B to Gare du Nord then RER E??? Taxi...or Uber. RER B to Gare Du Nord and then Metro? Thank you for watching!
R u able to navigate the train station if u don’t speak French?
Yes! Signs are understandable. Thank you for watching!
Hi Leonard, I am heading to Rouen from CDG airport and hope you can correct me on my route?
1. Rer B train to Gare du Nord 2. Walk to Gare Magenta (follow RER E sign). 3. Board RERE train to Haussmann St Lazare. 4. Top platform to Rouen? I appreciate anything you can tell me 😊
Hope you are well. Just wondering.....would you be up for a bus from CDG to Rouen instead of coming into the city and then heading out of the city???? I think there is a FLIX BUS from the airport to Rouen and it takes 2 and half hours and is 24 euros????? What terminal are you landing in at CDG??? I just landed at Terminal 3 and walked past the RoissyPole bus station......it might be an easier option for you??? What do you think???
Just another idea to check....but I think you can catch a train from CDG to Rouen???? Let me know what you do for my own curiosity. Good Luck!
When I was about 12 the first time I really felt like a grownup was my Grandparents let me leave our hotel and walk over to Gare St. Lazare all by myself to pick up a schedule and while I was there I bought a chocolate bar. I felt like a man of the world.
Love comments like this! Such a cool recollection. Thank you for sharing and putting a smile on my face today.
I will be taking the train to Caen. My question is that the Normandy line so to speak?
Hi Leonard, at which spot should I wait for an Uber ride? Many thanks!
Another question. Can you take RER from CDG Airport directly to Saint Lazare Gare? Do we have to take RER into Paris and then to Saint Lazare Gard?
where do you recomend to buy train ticket from el havre to this station and then where should i buy metro tickets? thx
Where are the lifts located in this train station? Is there a lift at the main entrance or do you have to use escalator at the start? Asking for senior or greater accessibility needs.
I'm 71 years old. How far is the walk from RER to track where you catch the train to Bayuex? Is it very far. Like how many city blocks would it be.? Thanks!
Is this neighborhood safe at night? We are staying on Rue de Londres. Thank you
Is Saint Lazare the only train station servicing Le Havre?
No. The railway station at Le Havre also serves Le Havre.
🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
pu sa grand mere 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
First off learn how to pronounce the SAINT LAZARE correctly.
Leonard, Bro thanks so much for the walkthrough very helpful for traveling for sure. Big 👍19 hope you have a Wicked Fun Week
Cali in da houz! Thank you for watching!
Well made & informative video - the only thing that gnaws away at a British person is that we in Britain (home of the English language!) call them 'railway stations' and not 'train stations', which is a bit like calling airports 'plane stations'. We will forgive an American this time.
