    To let you know about “others”: I’ve got two Lab brothers who encourage each other to run and to bring back dead things. They are 100% outdoor dogs in Georgia but in a pen at night.
    I first bought two bark/training collars which will remain nameless. They’d beep then correct for continued barking and you could push a button on the remotes to correct them if you saw something happening. After a month they started acting up and two months one would not charge. I gave them a 4 on Amazon and explained in detail. The company privately offered me a complete refund on both plus $50 if I’d change to a 5 and correct my words. No deal.
    I now have two CONOVO GPS collars ($120 each) that are ok. They only have what you call a “quick fence” option - a center point and a radius. Not a deal breaker but it would be nice to follow the property boundaries. The worst thing is there is only one distance setting. They get beeped, vibrated, and corrected at the same time. Confusing and a bit traumatic. I turned the vibrate off. They have a screen and membrane buttons. Apparently they sometimes push buttons or something else will turn one off during the day. I don’t think they will last forever.
    Setup is not easy but not impossible. It took about 4 tries to get it right.
    The dogs can lay under a car or on the porch with a metal roof without triggering the collars.
    I’m sold on the GPS idea.
    I’ve been telling myself that I’d gladly pay more for a warning then a correction. I was thinking double the price though. Maybe after these die I’ll go for 10 times the price. The Spot On seems to do everything.

      Thank you so much for this insight. I'm with ya on trying some of the correction collars they just don't really work for containment. I hadn't tried other brands before my first SpotOn so I don't have experience and unfortunately there weren't too many reviews when I got mine while ago. The price is def hefty and I can appreciate the hesitation. If you have any other questions let me know. Thanks again

    I know that this thread is old, but I have a question about the number of fences that can be saved. I want this for 2 main reasons. #1, my 8 year old lab/aussie mix has decided to begin escaping the house and running down the street into a busy road. #2, I want to use it for our RV trips to keep her contained to a given area since she has also decided that squirrels, chipmunks and stray cats are fun to chase and as I've gotten older I've found that I'm not as able to hold onto the leash when she gets her mind made up to chase something. So, the question is, can I delete fences that I only needed for a day or few days? Or do I only have a certain total lifetime amount of fences?

    • @HaulYT
      @HaulYT  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sandra I believe this shouldn't be an issue. You can save and delete fences that you set up and I don't remember the number you can save but it was significant.

    Great review. I have a 5 month old Bernese pup and want to order the Gen2 and start working with him as soon as possible. Im curious if you went with a medium or large for your dog. Looking in video it looks like it has a lot of excess so assuming you got a large. Hard to estimate how big the dog will get but likely 100lbs. Thanks for the good review!

    Thank you for the review. You mentioned that you constantly keep the collar in the Forest mode. I don't know about Gen.1 collar, but the Gen 2., when in Forest Mode, turns off Indoor Detection. So there is a chance for your dog being stimulated when it comes back home. Did you actually try the Gen.2 collar? (I left a detailed comment under your Gen.1 collar review. And I'm leaving a copy of it at the end of this message for convenience).
    IMHO, it's worth mentioning that one of the major differences between those collars is the 4G/LTE-M cellular connection used by Gen.2 vs. 3G for Gen.1. Since 3G is getting obsolete and is not available in many areas any longer, the Gen. 1 collars become, largely, useless (at least, for tracking).
    And a suggestion, if you don't mind. Both reviews of yours are missing the major feature of SpotOn: ability to track dogs that left the fenced area. You mention it very briefly. I think it would be immensely beneficial if you discuss, demonstrate and evaluate the feature. Trying it in your wooded area would be very interesting to know about. I'm sure the company would be glad to provide you with a 1-mo free subscription.
    Thank you again.
    ++++
    Here is a copy of my comment left earlier:
    "I just discussed the issue with a company rep (2022 version of the collar). Apparently, in the regular mode, it has a feature called "indoor detection". I wasn't able to get any technical details off them (this would help to understand the issue immensely), but the indoor detection prevents dog stimulation caused by GPS signal deterioration while the pet is inside the house. The Forest Mode cancels the Indoor Detection, so you'll need to either remove the collar or disable the fence every time your dog gets inside. My understanding of the issue is that, in the forest, GPS signal deteriorates similarly to what happens indoors and needs to be boosted, so if you want the unit to attempt working in the forest, the indoor detection feature should be disabled.
    So you either risk losing track of the dog if it escapes into the forest while the collar is in the Regular Mode (even if the cellular connection remains sufficient) OR you risk stimulating your dog when it comes indoors while the collar is in the Forest Mode (the later will depend on GPS reception inside your home).
    Also, it's worth noting that, apparently, the cellular connection is not bidirectional. It's only outgoing (from the collar, through the cellular network, to your phone). That's why you cannot switch modes or operate the collar manually from your phone (like you do with training collars).
    I wonder why they don't have a feature that would automatically create a smaller geofence around the dog as soon as it breaks through the borders (and repeat it again and again as needed). IMO, it should be a simple programming task that wouldn't require any hardware modification. Maybe they just didn't think about it.
    And the ideal collar for me would be the one that combines cellular and direct radio connection (yes, I know that this will affect power consumption, weight and...price). Of course, it would also require a separate device in addition to the phone, but it would dramatically decrease any chance of tracking problem due to poor cellular or radio connection AND allow the collar to be used as a training and hunting one, turn on such features as the Forest Mode remotely at long distances, manually create a smaller fence around an escaped dog, etc. Dreams, sweet dreams..."

      @HaulYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike thanks for the review. I have had the collar in forest mode since I got it and have only had a couple of instances of the collar beeping when my dog got into my basement.
      Great info on the Gen 1 vs Gen 2 thanks for that very interesting.
      I only had the tracking option for the Gen 2 which is why I spoke of it. I didn't buy the cell plan on the Gen 1.

    Hey -- Great Review! Very helpful. I saw the Gen1 review of yours and then came to this one. Obviously I'm considering a geo-fencing collar. Anyway, looks like Gen2 is a nice improvement/upgrade from Gen1. The question that I have relates to the size and use of our property. We've got about 15 acres that would be 'fenced'. But within those 15 acres there are several sections -- gardens, orchard, etc. -- that we'd want to keep the dogs out of. So, we'd need to set up the fences so it would keep the dogs within the perimeter fence but outside the garden fencing. Does the Gen2 do that sort of thing? Cheers!

      Steve please see below response from SpotOn:
      The best way to do that sort of thing today is to create different fences for different areas of the property. You can have up to 20 different fences. That being said, SpotOn is always working on new app-based features to improve the functionality of the system so even though there is not a way to exclude areas inside a fence today, it may become available and rolled out to all users in the future.

    Hi, thank you for the information. I am considering this system for my dog. We have a large yard & property. My concern is that our house is close to the road. It's about 25 feet from the front wall of the house to the edge of the road. If I draw the fence with the 15 feet allowance from the road, will the alarms sound if the dog is in the front part of the house?

    Very helpful and thorough review! Three Questions: 1. Once you adjust it to the proper size, is it easy to throw on quickly for outsize time (like with a snap clasp) or do you have to adjust it each time you put it on the dog (like a belt with belt-holes)? 2. Do you know if they offer an extended warranty program (like Halo) or a lower-than-buying-another-new-unit price should you need to purchase a replacement outside of the warranty (like Apple) or do they offer to repair out-of-warranty units? Otherwise, seems really expensive if it’s just disposable after the 1-year warranty it up. 3. Can you send a signal to the collar from the app to manually sound an alert (like a return-to-me whistle or to ward them away from a skunk or another dog)? Thanks in advance.

    i want to train my dog within the current physical fence i have, and then remove the fence and make the GPS fence even larger. Is this going to confuse the dog? Will she get used to the smaller "training area" fence and then not go beyond it after?

    • @HaulYT
      @HaulYT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure I can answer this in complete factuality. My dog was def aware of the boundaries after the training but also pushed them to the beeps at times. If your fenced in area is within 10' of your new larger area then that would be within your drift zone so it may not be an issue. You may need to rewalk/retrain the new area

    Well done. I think I will get this one. I have a Husky and we live along a busy road and have woods to the back. SO it was not feasible to run a traditional wireless fence. This sounds perfect. It is expensive but you make a great point about comparing the prices of a traditional vs this. Did you use the static charge and if you did, did you find it hard to make contact through all that fur? How did Vader learn that crossing the boundary would be "unpleasant"? Jenifer on the .43 acres you should verify with SpotOn that you won't have any issues, there customer service is really great and they can provide great feedback. On the alerts and boundaries of bringing your dog back that will all be based on your training. @@HaulYT Thank you for the update on the collar adjustment.
      A radiant barrier is used to help keep the radiant heat out. Basically works like this.... On a hot day let's say 90 degrees, you park your car in the direct sunlight with the windows rolled up. You come back later, open the car and the temperature in the car will exceed 120 degrees. Now on the same day, you park your car in the same manner but this time you park it in the shade. The interior temperature of the car will be not much more than the ambient temperature. This is basically how radiant barriers work. Putting a radiant barrier on the roof greatly reduces the attic temperature which in turn helps keep the house cooler therefore the ac doesn't run as much. If a home is already built, you can paint the inside of the roof with radiant paint which will help as well. We have some friends whose home is over 45 years old and they painted their interior side of their roof with radiant paint and they were very pleased with the results. Radiant barriers do not have any effect on the life span of the shingles on the roof. In Texas, homes are wrapped with a vapor barrier, this lets the house "breathe" but keeps the moisture out, especially if living in humid areas. You can get vapor barriers with a radiant barrier to wrap the house (which is great if your home catches a lot of direct sun on the sides) this also helps reduce energy cost as well. Hopefully I was able to explain radiant barrier well enough to give you some insight.
      Living southeast of Houston, Texas, radiant barriers are worth their weight in gold in reducing energy cost. However, it does interfere with cell phone reception unless your are using WI-FI service on your cell phone while in the home. So, this is why I was wondering if a radiant barrier would interfere with SpotOn's performance.

      They maybe available cheaper since I made this video. I haven't used the no name brands to be able to speak on them. I know this one works well for me. Thanks for the feedback

    Monthly fee??? This is a fancy but unnecessary device for sure, why would anyone NEED this?

      @@HaulYT That's good at least, the app is great but you pay for it included in the retail cost of the product, does the need for custom parameters justify the $1500+Tax price tag? I guess for some it does

      @@user-dz9yx3et9y well it is custom fences, and real time tracking for those who have escape artists.
