I was there 3 weeks ago. Just stumbled upon Vernon's collection. What an amazing afternoon looking at all his collection. Vernon is one of the most gracious and welcoming souls you ever will meet. I highly recommend a trip to Newfoundland and tour the Island and see Vernon's top notch collection.
I love Vernon's choice in cars for his collection. If I could afford it, my collection would be very similar. My wife and I met Dennis at the Auburn fall auction and swap meet years ago. He is as down to earth and friendly off camera as he is on camera. I wish him the very best and happy hunting.
I saw a new 1953 Olds in our little country town in Kentucky. It was the same color as I remember. The neighbors couldn’t believe that it has tubeless tires! I was a little kid, but I loved cars from an early age!👍🤠🇺🇸🙏
That 53 Caddy is my dream car! I recall when living in Mount Pearl during the late 40's, 50's when there were many American families in Nfld, one family lived in a home close to where I lived on Park Ave had their 53 Caddy shipped from the USA. I was friends with their kids and was fortunate to get to ride in that beauty. I'l never forget that experience. I visited Vernon's Museum recently during a holiday back home and got to see his 53 Caddy for real. It was truly a joy to behold!
Thanks for the memories. My folks bought a new "53 Olds 98 convertible. It was a special car back then and my mom loved to drive it fast with the top down. My dad taught me to drive in that car then a buddy's sister with an old Plymouth taught me to drive stick.
What a trip down memory lane Dennis...I loved the 53 Golden Anniversary Cadillac..my dad owned a G.A 1953 4 door saloon &.had a 17 band self seeking radio.aerial went up and down while seeking.....only 53 Caddy in South Australia and was in Sky blue..at 100 mph there was no wind noise and go down a dirt corrugated road as if on bitumen.& wind the needle hard on the 110mph.19 foot 6 inches..do blackies down the road and we did love the service station guy looking for the petrol cap..After she came off the ship, dad pulled up to get a steak sandwich at Port Adelaide and some one pinched the hubcaps, cut glass inner caddie emblems.magnificent caps & Dad was devastated and ended up getting a new set from Caddy,.. chromed, though they were not half the hubcaps of the original big 9.00 15 tyres..I think she was $17,000 to OZ.Dad sold her in 1972 for $12.000..wonder what she would cost today? & 2 hhrs to wash & wipe..!! :)) I have a photo of me drivers seat age 9...
That Oldsmobile is one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen. I would even go so far as to say I like it better than the Eldorado. All are amazing finds! Great video. Thanks!
I'm salivating(and a bit envious, I admit) of your car collection, there Vernon. I see your doing the right thing and taking care of them in a huge garage. Take care of them, buddy, 'cause one thing's for sure: they ain't making any more of these rolling works of art. Cheers, Dale Andrews, Lake Charles, LA
Wow, incredible collection and even more so considering where it is! Newfoundland is indeed beautiful but collector cars are very rare there and the climate doesn't help preserve them. I think I need to visit Newfoundland again and see this.
Good on Vern! There aren't too many TRULY DECENT people around, these days...that'll go out of their way like that for kids, anyhow. Hopefully, that practice is "planting a seed" for our beloved old iron, in the minds of those youngsters.
First, the people of Newfoundland are the best. Even their dog, the big Newfoundland dog, and, the Black Labs are fine. Swift current is in a lovely spot. My question is this: how did this relatively young looking man, Vernon, manage to build this collection. A tribute to the fine people of that part of Canada.
There was a show just recently on CBC television I believe, and Vernon said that he used to be a power lines man, so on the job he could spot possible restoration projects down on acreages from his vantage point!
My Dad had an olds. same color with a black rag top I think his was a 55 oldd. but looked very much like this one. i was only 10 years old at the time but I remember how cool we thought it was because it had power windows !
WOW!! WOW! And more WOW. Wonder if he does tours? He's gotta have a staff to help with the restorations. But, like Jay Leno's collection, man am I jealous
Man I miss Oldsmobile!!! Why can't todays car designers do beautiful cars like these? Such interesting machines I could spend months in this guys to shop!! Mr Gage you have an AWESOME job!!!
Dennis, are you a young guy or something ? Every hot--rodder in 1955--1959 either had a set of Fiesta hubcaps ( from 1953 'til 1955 ) or a set of Star--Fire Olds hubcaps from 1956. This was the last year of 15 inch wheels. The 1957 had 14 inch wheels. These were called Spinners or Flippers, due to the three "paddles " ...In 1957, it was the Dodge Lancer spinners that were the hot item.
Thanks, Dennis and Vernon, etc. interestingly, great Canadian Neighbors...... WOMDERFUL ***Trifecta....my first Driver was **1953 Chevy ( 4 Door/ auto/ 6 CYL).....And my PRents did buy a 1953** Buick 2 DOOR/ BLACK OVer yellow Colors/ DYNAFLOW......not as fAncy as these 1953’s....
OWNED A 53 OLDS SUPER 88 AND ALSO BOUGHT MY PARENTS 98 FITTED WITH FACTORY AIR ''POWER WINDOWS DELETE'' . BOTH IN DARK METALLIC BLUE. WITH MATCHING LT BLUE CLOTH. THE 88 WAS A HARD TWIST NYLON AND THE 98 HAD THE SAME AS A CADILLAC IN LT BLUE FLANNEL. AND BACK IN 2007 KOCH UPHOLSTERY IN ROCKFORD IL DID THE UPHOLSTERY WORK ON A 53 OLDS 98 HOLIDAY FIESTA CONV EXACTLY IN THE SAME COLOR CONFIGURATION AS SHOWN.IT WAS A TOTAL ROTISSERIE RESTORATION WHAT THEY DID NOT DISCUSS IS THE; WINDOWS ;TOP; SEATS ; WERE ALL HYDRAULIC POWERED AND THERE WAS HUNDREDS OF POUNDS OF COPPER TUBING IN THE FLOOR .AND ALSO MY 98 HAD THE AIR CONDITIONER IN THE TRUNK AND THE COMPRESSOR WAS CONNECTED WITH 200LBS OF COPPER TUBING RUNNING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO THE UNIT IN THE TRUNK.AIR OUTLETS IN THE ROOF.OLDS WAS ON THE TOP IN THE 50-60'S
It is a wealthy person's hobby. I had a 55 ford custom, 2 door hardtop. 272 CID Y block, 55 was the last year for the 6 volt system. Hard to find parts. Everything was expensive. Ended up letting it go.
I never understood how US collectors determined which is/was rare. saying a 53 caddy eldo was/is rare, would make say a 53 MG of the same time extremely exclusive. Just saying... Sidenote: when taking euro ways of calling something rare: the fiesta would be rare, the eldo, not so much
Okay, in '53 only one half of one percent of Cadillacs were Eldorados - that is what we call "rare" in our backwards world. In America, 532 is a low production number, although. I know that's a pretty big run in Snarkton or wherever, but not around here since about 1908.
Time could have stopped back when those cars were new and it wouldn't bother me a bit. We didn't think the world would have evolved into a piece of shit that it is now. I was glad I got to grow up when these cars were new

I spent 5 hours viewing these beautiful cars and such Vern was such a pleasure to chat with . His collection is second to none and so well presented
I visited Vernon's collection in the summer of 2019. It is truly one of a kind and Vernon is a most welcoming host.
Dennis, you need to go back and back again and back again to cover this awesome collection!
What a stunning collection of amazing classic cars to have in a beautiful remote place like Newfoundland. A lucky man indeed.
Customs are fun, but nothing is better than the all originals. Keep 'em coming.
I love Vernon's choice in cars for his collection. If I could afford it, my collection would be very similar.
My wife and I met Dennis at the Auburn fall auction and swap meet years ago. He is as down to earth and friendly off camera as he is on camera. I wish him the very best and happy hunting.
Yeah I met Dennis too several times. he seems to be a really nice guy.. but I only met him on TV.
Most beautiful collection I've seen
I saw a new 1953 Olds in our little country town in Kentucky. It was the same color as I remember. The neighbors couldn’t believe that it has tubeless tires! I was a little kid, but I loved cars from an early age!👍🤠🇺🇸🙏
Wowee ! I'm so glad we can keep all of these around, protected for years to come .
What an amazing collection

Absolutely fascinating, rolling masterpieces.

My dad taught me to drive in that car then a buddy's sister with an old Plymouth taught me to drive stick.
Oh my! Beauties one and all.
I hope all these classic cars get loved through the generations to come.
What a beautiful collection!
These cars are an insane standard.... So clean so rare so complete and so many... Insane
Vernon seems like a kickass guy. Easy going, shares the enthusiasm, and knows everyone who sees it wants to drive something in his collection.
not to worry Vernon owns the weather station too and it wouldnt dare rain on his cars. great cars and thanks for sharing your collection
I love the Olds. With the rocket on and under the hood
It’s great that they are driving and loved.

Absolutely beautiful automobiles.
What a collection oh my god.
I myself have a 53 Olds 88, and I feel its one of the greatest looking classics cars. But that Fiesta... that is the holy grail of Oldsmobiles
I think my nerves would be shot trying to drive something that beautiful and rare.
@Russ Gallagher I wonder how many of these cars will still be driven in twenty years and how many will be in a museum
I park my car at the far end of the Walmart lot to avoid door dings. Vernon parks his in Newfoundland to do the same.
Were some of his close enough where he might do it to himself?
I park anywhere but a Walmart parking lot to avoid getting hit by people who got their driver training from the Internet, if any!
Vernon is amazing
That Oldsmobile is one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen. I would even go so far as to say I like it better than the Eldorado. All are amazing finds! Great video. Thanks!
I agree, it's stunning.
I want that Olds! That is my favorite one!
I'm salivating(and a bit envious, I admit) of your car collection, there Vernon. I see your doing the right thing and taking care of them in a huge garage. Take care of them, buddy, 'cause one thing's for sure: they ain't making any more of these rolling works of art.

When the teens graduate there he lets them pick any car in there and he will drive them around in any car they want
Good on Vern!

Slick Andrews oh man! I had never thought of that! Brilliant! I hope some of those seeds sprout.

What's Vernon's story? How does a Newfie come up with that much dough to amass a collection like that ?
He is a retired businessman.
Next time you see Vernon say what happened to your hot rods I went there there was no hot rods
I never understood how US collectors determined which is/was rare. saying a 53 caddy eldo was/is rare, would make say a 53 MG of the same time extremely exclusive. Just saying...

Looking for a 49 Ford custom club coup stock and a 53 Mercury moter stock and 4 stromburg97 carbs
Looks like something the Clampetts would drive
Makes me hate the cheap small plastic cars they make today even more.
Yes sir. I grew up in the 40’s & 50’s. Those were the cars that impressed me for the rest of my life. Now in my 80’s. Brings back lots of memories.❤
