Makes more sense especially with travis strikes back although i read some article that said it was supposed to be a darth Vader joke. Idk if its a mixture of both or what but the wide open terrain and castle in the back. Edit: ohhhhhhh why did i read last boss. Yea he did remind me of ganondorf
Travis is genuinely the most down to earth action character just because of the fact he does mundane shit and does what he does just because of his selfish desires.
Yeah that’s what I love about Travis the fact he’s top rank assassin in the world but at the same time looks and acts like that one friend you hang out with every now and then and have great time and this is why Travis is my favorite hack and slash video game character of all time way more than Dante Kratos Bayonetta and even Sora while they are great characters in own way yeah but Travis has certain charm and relatability that just can’t be match in my book
And it's not even really about just basic "selfish desire". He basically says right at the start of NMH 1, I think it's to Death Metal, paraphrased "I don't care about money or power, I just wanna be the best there is at this shit. I want to be #1!" See right there, that's a man striving towards an ideal: being the best there is at what you do, whatever it is. It's killing in this case, so opinions may vary on the idealism of that, but I don't see Travis going around killing innocents so I give him a pass.
Notice how Jeane does the DestroyMan thing of begging for her life, but as soon as she realizes Travis won't fall for that, she drops the facade and gives her life with honor. She's a summary of every boss he has fought so far, an addict to killing who has destroyed her life but doesn't let that put her down because of her huge pride, but at the tail end of her life she realizes that it was worthless,
It's weird, but one thing that most people seem to forget about is Travis's monologue during the first boss fight that kinda forshadows the story. Although he starts off talking about how his future would be full of riches and women, he realizes that what's happening to Death Metal could happen to him. Then it takes an interesting turn when he talks about finding an exit to paradise, but he can't. To me, much of Travis's motivation, attitude, and reasoning for his actions could boil down to him trying to find an exit. It's like he's aware what the true nature of death is, but chooses to ignore it to try and escape. It's not farfetched, since his initial motivation was thought to be to bang Silvia, and that it's almost like he purposely blocked out his vengeance against Jeane, since the way he says he met Silvia and how he actually met her is different. However, by seeing the other assassins, he realizes that it won't work this way, hence why he says that there's no way out to Henry and that the only chance is getting to Paradise.
Ain't it a little ironic how in strikes back he's running away to leave his Rankin as champion after no more heroes 2 he says he wants peace but he still enjoys the thrill of Killing but the new bosses do speak of some stuff
@@jackalongsingalong664 The games make no attempt to hide Travis's sociopathic nature. I think for him the bullshit just outweighs the thrill. He still likes violence and is an assassin at heart, but probably didn't want to make his entire life about it...I think. ..hence him being way in over his head unknowingly joining in Slyvia's scam.
That's probably because the footage here is clearer than on the usual CRT TV. I think this is footage from a Dolphin emulator or something 'cause there's like no aliasing at all in the vid
I love No More Heroes. No joke, when I was in high school I made it my mission to track down and acquire literally every bit of memorabilia for the game. Both soundtracks, the statue of Sylvia, No More Heroes Red Zone, No More Heroes Paradise as well as the comic book, DVD and Erotica Portraits. My prized Possession is a phone card with a nice drawing of Jeane that cost me over $100. I was obsessed haha. Not as crazy about it anymore but it has no doubt impacted my life and own creativity. Jeane was my favorite character and I’d personally like to see an MGS3 style sequel for the third game where you’re sent back in time to relive the horrible life Jeane had to endure.
You seriously have the soundtrack to NMH2? There was only a thousand made, that's insane! I have a good chunk of GHM memorabilia, including the Sylvia figure, erotica cards from the PS3 port, and the Hopper's Edition of NMH2. I also ordered the signature edition of the Suda51 biography recently which only came out in France. Gotta wait a while before it actually arrives, though.
GhenryPerez Yeap!!! I sure do! Got it right when it came out :) And that’s awesome man! I have the Hoppers Edition as well, forgot to mention that! Is that biography you have in English? I’d love to read it! Nice to meet another super fan.
The biography is entirely in French, but my friend is going to help me translate the whole thing. I don't think I can provide scans, but I'll at least put the whole thing out as a pure text translation.
Thank you for that.I’d be okayish with the french(i think) but I’m rather short on money right now, so I had to let the Book go for now, but I really want to read it.I appreciate that, really.
Dude the "Heroes" trailer makes me feel like I stepped into the twilight zone. It's like so far off base in tone it feels like a bad parody lol. But that's what makes me love it lol
I got NMH as a gift from my cousin for graduating middle school back in the day. It was a game I knew about but wasn't particularly interested in until I played it. It became one of my favorite game of all time. I really enjoyed your analysis video. Hope to see more vids like it in the future.
Death Metal actually foreshadows the sequels. I remember someone saying how everyone Travis kills in the games are a reflection of himself and what he would become in the future Also! My favorite franchise with a quote from my favorite films? Damn this was a treat.
Wow, aside from a 3 part video about symbolism in No More Heroes, I have never so much about Travis and the game's bosses. For being very detailed and making me think what I haven't before about the game, I say you have blown my mind. A video well made. Good job, man. By the way, excited to hear you talk about the sequel. Love the game, especially the bosses. Most of them anyway.
Thanks for the like, man. You are literally the second person to send me something like this. In case, you're interested, the person who did the 3 part video about No More Heroes' symbolism is named EmceeProphlt. Some of his points match yours, but like I said, it's something to see if you're interested.
Honestly, I thought this video would be much shorter. But it expanded into so much more than I initially imagined! Still have some DR videos planned, including a revisit of Dead Rising 3. I learned a lot about its development period too recently, so it'll be worth making a video covering it!
Nice to know that i'm not the only one that still remembers and constantly thinks about NMH 1 & 2. These games are the shit! I want to play it right now!!!
This is kinda the most controversial moment that many got wrong, even Kill Bill. Clark Kent isn't Superman's costume, it's the other way around. He was born as Kal'El, raised by the Kents in Smallville, then he BECAME Superman. Before he was Superman and before he found out about his Kryptonian herritage, he was a kid and he lived a normal life just like you and me. He went to school, he did chores, he was a farm boy, he grew up and got a job as a reporter for the Daily Planet. When he found out about his Kryptonian heritage, he was scared; he didn't want to be a superhero, he refused his heritage. However at a certain point when push came to shove, he stepped up and embraced it. It took him time and a Hell of a lot of training, but he eventually embraced his Kryptonian heritage and BECAME the Man of Steel. Clark Kent is NOT the costume, Superman IS the costume. He may have been born Kal'El, but he was raised as Clark Kent.
From an outside perspective, Clark Kent is the costume and Superman is the true identity. Like oh look, Superman is pretending to be a weak, mild-mannered news reporter when he's REALLY a badass alien. It's all perspective. I'm sure he sees himself as Clark Kent before Superman, but that's because he was raised to think so. Ask yourself this, which persona has him pretending to be something he's not? Clark Kent.
@@MaxLoafin It's the reverse of Batman. Bruce Wayne is 100% the mask and Batman is the real guy. However, Superman is the mask for Clark, simply because Clark only wants to help people not be a symbol of perfection.
@@lewisdavidson571 They're both really similar actually. However, the Batman persona only exists because vigilante justice is illegal and the Clark Kent persona was given to Superman by his adoptive family because he was an alien. Kent was born superman, raised as Kent, and eventually accepted that he's Superman. He was born with absurd power and ability. Batman was born Bruce Wayne, a whiney rich kid who's actions led to the unfortunate murder of his parents and this led him to change into Batman. Superman changing into Superman is accepting who he is while Batman turning to Batman was a coping mechanism. That's why I said "from an outside perspective". You can't become Superman through ideology and dedication, you have to be born like that. Anyone could theoretically be Batman if they were rich enough and dedicated enough. You'll have to do better to convince me otherwise
@@MaxLoafin You're confusing the powers that come from Kryptonian biology with identity. Power =/= identity. For example, when you say his parents raised him to see himself as Clark Kent, what does that mean? This statement makes no sense unless you presume that the powers from being Kryptonian should somehow make him "x" kind of person necessarily. It's illogical. He was born Kal-El, not Superman; a kryptonian, not Superman. Superman reflects nothing essential about how his life except his powers. However, Clark Kent reflects his entire life, and this is most exposed in his relationship with Lois. This post does a pretty good job laying out the basic template: www.reddit.com/r/FanTheories/comments/4wn1vu/superman_is_a_dork/
I'll admit Heroes' Paradise isn't as good as the original, but it's still nice that we got some port of it. I enjoy it a lot for what it is, fantastic analysis and looking forward to your video on the sequel! :)
You also shined a light on why I love Travis Touchdown so much, despite his glaring flaws as a person. The Bushido code and just the fact that he's a geek who glorifies the life of an assassin, like he's living a fucking Anime. Travis is one of the more interesting protagonists in gaming, while also being very relatable as a person, with his geeky hobbies and love for cats.
The best part? You don't have to notice, or care, about any of that. It's surface level humour and outlandish scenarios and plot are enough to carry it. The depth can be sought if you want more, which stops it feeling heavy, forced or in your face. At least in my opinion
I like how you analyzed all killers as representations of horribleness of death and violence and stuff, but i think that's not only a part of bigger meaning. This whole story feels more like Travis becoming a man, and all woman assassin's representing different stages of manhood and different women that Travis might've been in relationships with.
I can kind of see that for sure. I think it'd be more apparent if all the opponents were women, but I think NMH can really be seen in various ways. Just adds to how great the game and its story is!
In all honesty, that almost always happens when these games get ported to higher-end consoles. Rarely are they perfect ports. The team behind Heroes' Paradise cared more about trying to convenience the hubworld that they ended up making everything else about it much worse.
Fantastic video! Love the perspective of the characters and world. It's why it's my absolute favorite game of all time including the rough yet satisfying game. I'm hoping Travis Strikes Again takes that title!
I post this on nearly every NMH video I've seen since 8th grade (4 years ago). Who else hates the gun enemies more than anything else? Also back then I wanted to be Travis so bad, mainly his hair, jacket, shirts, and attitude. This game has made a huge impact on me now that I think about it.
Omg, did you actually have a cool leather jacket? I feel like Travis' attitude would be a bit of a concern to replicate, how did that work out for you? I don't really play video games, but I learned about NMH when I was a lot younger from a youtuber who did a review, and something about it wormed into my head, so I ended up looking for more yt content, fanmade stuff, etc... I agree, it's weird now looking back at how it's affected me.
"I will delete any new comments addressing this, for the dozens I've already received are enough." This is bad, don't do this. Deleting comments (even redundant ones) is a wet mucus covered slope.
I saw this video in my recommendations and I'm glad I clicked on it. This was one of my favourite game experiences on the Wii because of the style, story, characters and presentation (even though I had the UK bloodless version). I love your comprehensive analysis of game's story, themes and characters. I never finished the sequel because of the game didn't hook like the first, plus I had other life stuff to take care of. I do want to revisit both games again at some point.
This is an amazing video but I must disagree with your point on Destroy Man and Clark Kent, Superman was Clark Kent before he was Superman. Clark lived like a normal boy up until he found out about his heritage at which point he made Superman.
I'll admit I was more hooked on the idea of simply using the Kill Bill scene because I love the last line Bill says to Kiddo, but I'd also argue that it's also about what a person's fate is. While he thought he was just a normal boy named Clark Kent, nothing would stop the "Superman" that was within to eventually grow out and form his character. And someone like Destroyman was probably always going to turn out to be the deceptive psychopath that he was.
@@Ghenry I'd argue that scene in Kill Bill is less Tarantino giving his conclusive view on Superman, and more using a commonly known example to show Bill as a character. Bill thinks people stay the way they are, that nobody can be redeemed or changed, a killer will always be a killer no matter how hard they try. Superman is what Superman is, Clark Kent is who superman is. He would have always been superman, because superman is simply the powers he was born with. But any other parentage would have resulted in somebody completely different then Clark Kent.
Note to Self: The safe way to play no more heroes on the Wii is on the Japanese version of the game. This version is without blood and gore and instead shows exploding coins like of that in Scott pilgrim.
While i disagree with a lot of the points brought up in this video, it was really well made and conveyed the points really well!!!! My reading of the game is that it's more of a commentary on videogame violence and the players of violent games more than anything, and that a lot of the story and characters just spout vapid vaguely philosophical bullshit on purpose. A lot of the time talking to player directly asking why they like the killing so much (a-la hotline miami). This is highlighted by the Jeane cutscene where they just skip over her backstory because it would kill the pacing and honestly who cares?? All the story is just a crappy pleasantry for the violence that videogame players crave, and that's okay. Really interesting to see it from a different perspective though!! And i'm so glad these games are being looked at from multiple angles with different readings! Can't wait to check out the NMH2 video once i finish that game!
I understand the notion, but I'd argue that Suda most likely doesn't consider the story in that light. A "crappy pleasantry" for anything is the last way I'd describe any of the other games he's written and directed, so I don't see why he would do such a disservice to what he considers the most important part of making a game (the story) for NMH1. Sorry if I'm being presumptuous, but perhaps you haven't experienced his earlier work like The Silver Case or Flower, Sun, and Rain. Or even Travis Strikes Again, which was his return to writing/directing a game after NMH1. That game especially presses on how important storytelling and narrative is to him as a creator.
@@Ghenry i actually finished no more heroes the day i wrote the comment, i played through killer7 beforehand currently playing through nmh2 and then ill try and check out the previous games you mentioned before travis strikes again i just saw the meta-commentary take a much higher prescence in nmh than killer 7 and the way the story is presented feels a lot like (not an afterthought but) more purposefully sparse maybe my opinion will change after playing through the others, i just kind of felt the vibe after finishing the game lol! still love the video!
@@Ghenry OH ALSO!!! check out the video on hotline miami by satchell drake if you haven't, i feel the points there reflect my opinions on no more heroes 1 quite a bit, it being a game about games more than anything
My tiny country of origin was represented by Letz Shake. Yes, letz shake. But man the nightmares Bad Girl gave me, whew. I think a lot of us already knew these points but thanks for sharing to the rest of the world what makes this game so great!
Stumbled on this video randomly, usually I blank out on most video essays but you kept me engaged the whole time with great analysis on the subject matter and humor sprinkled in throughout. I wanna see more!!!
I have never played No More Heroes. The only reason why I know about this game is because I watched my cousin play it all night (at the time, I was too young to understand the concept of playing video games and merely watched my cousins play everything). But god damn, watching and experiencing it with him was as good as playing it. The music, the gore, the combat, the assassins, Travis motherfuckin Touchdown, and even the mundane side jobs you had to do are all burned into my memory. I honestly want to buy it just to play it myself. This video helped me reminisce about the times when I'd sleepover at my cousins house so I can watch/play games with them. No More Heroes will forever hold a special place in my heart and my memories.
You my friend have earned yourself a lifetime subscriber. Not even just the fact that I'm a huge No More Heroes fan and it was one of the funnest, goriest, badassest game that actually spoke to me personally as a loser but because your analyzation was so in-depth and thought out!! Plus Easter eggs. Bravo good sir, Bravo.
dude, this video is philosophical, destroyman is kinda like the first slain from my hero academia in this video, destroyman isn't about protecting the weak or resolveing issues peacefully, hes no heroe, but he poses as one. I would talk more about this game but I cant today, thank you ghenry for making this, your an interesting man and I think that you should make your own series but no pressure its just a hobbie.
I mean this is rather serious take on a game that was made with it being a parody/satire of JRPGs and anime or even excessive violence.. But I enjoyed it!
Some of the most captivating stories I've witnessed were born out of satire. The Invincible comic series is probably the best example. While I don't doubt Suda's initial intention of it being a parody of sorts, I think with his background, general impact and symbolism people perceive with NMH was something he was thinking of.
That was great, you really nailed it for most of the points you've made regarding the game. You could have added the theme of the endless struggle, where the bosses warn Travis that once he entered this world there is no exit. When you fight Death Metal Travis gives this grand speech about his dream life and how it's a facade and he can't find the exit. It doesn't make much, but only after you finish the game with the real ending and restart the game, then this speech makes total sense. Anyway, you did an awesome job, sorry for the long reply, you're the best around, peace.
Nice use of using Nine Inch Nails song Right where it Belongs at 29:53, man I forgot about that sound until I heard it again and took me a while and I remembered the lyrics, thanks for that. xD Amazing video. I hope you get a lot of more views and subscribers! :D
Excellent look back at this gem. I remember having my fair share of problems with the game back when I played it but overall, No More Heroes is a game that really stood out to me for a myriad of reasons and I'll never forget the time I sunk into it. Watching through your comprehensive look really reminded me why I love this game and the series as a whole, there's really nothing quite like it. I'm probably more excited fro NMH3 than I am for most games at this point, can't wait to see Travis' true return.
Travis did return . . . to Suda himself, I suppose. But please, I hope you didn't sleep on TSA since that game's narrative and structure is a sight to behold.
I think I should play these games again. I wasn't old enough to completely understand them in high school, I'd love to revisit them and fully get Suda's message. Great video!
Man this was a really good watch, great job! Another thing I heard about certain character designs is that in Japan its common to put the main hero's color in red as thats how they view it there, red being the protagonist. Can't remember where I heard that but thought that was interesting now that I'm looking back on NMH. Once again, excellent work!
Another thing about the east vs west theme against Henry, it's worth noting that you have to own the final beam katana (the traditional katana) to even unlock the fight
Thanks for doing this videos there is no people in Spanish speakers community talking about the meaning of this game and it’s characters maybe because this is an offensively underrated franchise, hope you make one for NMH 3!
omg, When I was watching this I thought all the footage capture was from the PS3 version of the game until he showed off what that version actually looked like. My mind was blown that the Wii version looked that good. I own this game and forgot about how good it looked.
Admirable and significant commentary to this game. I feel like the public commentary and disposition unto this game has been lackluster, because it really is a piece of art, and you have done it so well in this video.
look man this is an awesome video but that bit about superman is totally incorrect. as good as that little monologue was in context of the film, that parallel makes no sense, because the monologue is totally wrong about superman's character. clark kent was raised human, clark kent was just a normal kid long before he was ever superman. that's where he gets his personality, his love of humanity, and his kind heart. the movies totally screwed with the public perception of superman's character, they make him into a stoic, especially the movies nowadays, when really superman is a much different character. destroyman is, in my opinion, much more a parody and somewhat of a deconstruction of the perception we make of action heroes such as those we find in comics - in that destroyman is the superhero you might find in a world like this, a world that seems to almost be passive to the idea of death while still taking it seriously. a world that entertains its viewers with its ludicrous amounts of blood and gore. it distinctly makes fun of the tropes it makes a caricature out of with a background that we, the viewers, do not have any direct experience with. to say it's a play on the concept of a superhero character from the real world would be nearing a mark, but not quite on it.
I'm glad you liked it, despite that! I'm a little miffed of how many Superman takes I've gotten, but no big deal. While I get people's issue with how Bill describes Superman, the thing I wanted people to take away from that is Superman, unlike the other popular super heroes, wasn't conceived through circumstance, it started with something he was born with, something that came naturally. And, despite his background and growing up, that heroic part of him will come out in one sense or another. Granted, I haven't read every single piece of Superman comics, I felt that was part of the significance behind Red Son and Earth-10. I think Destroyman and his depiction feels more like a commentary on psychopathy being born within a person that you become familiar with over time (more so than any of the other bosses), and how easy one can hide it. Just like Superman and his natural ability. But it's all just opinion, I'm not saying I'm correct. Like this entire analysis, this is just how I took the game.
Thank you so much for this. No more heroes 2 was the first game I ever rented and completed on my own. (I had an older brother who pretty much beat games for me until I was around 13 or so.) I actually just recently picked up a copy of the original for wii at my local game shop before I even saw this video. I loved No more heroes just as much as desperate struggle. This video just helped further that love.
I just discovered your channel when on a No More Heroes kick, and it's rad! I'm a big Suda fan, and your vids on this and Killer7 have been a joy. Keep up the great work!
I kind of felt bad for Holly.. I got that she was a former military personnel most likely (with what she was wearing + the prosthetic leg, + the whole level being a representation of beach warfare), she probably has a lot wrong with her, PTSD, trauma and more. She may just want to die but can't stop fighting as a solider would. She always struck me as a pretty deep assassin
Wonder how many times I’ve watched this video 🤣🤣. But honestly I love these videos😍😍 I’m so glad these games are getting more recognition. I wrote a comment on the NMH 2 video last time🤣. But thank you 🙏🏻❤️
Damn, good video, well put together and not bloated with unrelated stuff like most youtube analysis videos and I actually learned quite a bit also lol at all the superman comments
Absolutely amazing video my good man, I thought I understood all there was about this game but you opened my eyes. I really hope TSA remains consistent with these themes.
Hard to say. It might be a kooky spinoff, but I think Suda understands that it needs some essence of NMH1. He did say exploring the town will return for TSA, though. It's not all 'game world' stuff. We'll see!
GhenryPerez His designs are always consistent with the undertones so I doubt he will drop the ball. It’s only 40% complete so we have a lot to see! I’m really excited for TSA it’s sad so many people are dismissing it
30:23 I thought that was because of the paint at the end, having to redraw that for each outfit would be too much work, so they just forced you to the default outfit and that was it.
Very good look at NMH. Things I've been pointed out was stuff like it being a critique of gamers, Travis being almost an avatar of what gamers would be. The enemies are literally loot pinatas, poke them and they die, spurting out money and blood like you expect from video game enemies but turned up to 11. And of course, Travis being the game player audience, doesn't get a shred of blood on him ever...except that one point in the game where he ends up preaching to the camera.
Nice work, dude! NMH was my most anticipated game for the Wii back in the day and I consider DesperateStruggle as the best on this platform. ...grapped HeroesParadise a while later and was very disappointed: It looked weird and the gameplay wasn't as fun without the wiimote :/
The PS3 has a motion remote and the games compatible, idk how people like you who have played it still complain about this as if it lacked motion support
"that's not a good thing yknow? Seeking meaning in everything.. especially killing, thats a bad habit among smart little girls these days." this line makes more sense when you realize that Suda 51 used to work as an Undertaker. He is basically tryna tell us that we shouldn't necessarily seek meaning in places where there might not be one, especially death and killing. It's a bad habit that we as people have. To give everything a meaning, it's why number 5's last line "even academics like to fantasize too" hits hard because it shows that no matter how intellignent, we give ourselves into the fantasy that there is a meaning behind things. Seeking those meanings helps justify our psyche, and plays into the fantasy.
The camera is shaking on Destroyman as a allusion to his mental instability. The reason he's dressed as a Postal Worker is because "Going Postal" is an expression for enacting a murderous rampage at your job. The Destroyman persona is a representation of his repressed psychosis. His underlying desire to brutally rip apart the people he is forced to deliver empty smiles to during his dayjob. While Superheroes are normally a Heroic Power Fantasy(Being adored for being a good person and saving others), Destroyman is Villainous Fantasy. Killing whoever he wants with consequence free anonymity. Think a normal person who desperately wants to become Homelander.
I just noticed something, the bosses lowkey reference different games, here are the ones I noticed so far, Death Metal - Gannon from Zelda Destroyman - Megaman Let's Shake - Sonic (maybe?) Holly - Metal Gear Solid Badgirl - Peach from Super Mario Jeanne - Street Fighter/Tekken
I didn't even think about it, but I had always wondered why the bosses would even take Travis seriously as a fight and challenger but I keep forgetting he has that ranked title that keeps speaking his actions
Funny how I literally just played through the 1st and 2nd games for the first time earlier this month and here you make a video on it. Always suspected that there was a bigger story but I felt unsure. Also, shout-out to my friend Gabe because he basically introduced me to NMH(and Dead Rising, but not as much) and told me stuff about it.
For a fun extra tidbit for the comparison of Travis and Jeane of thier suffering. Remember how Travis just casually says his parents were dead to Harvey. Then Travis even had to remember everything and then Jeane came into the scene. Travis literally put his revenge on a back burner, for Jeane that was a goal and she accomplished it.
Fun Fact: The first boss was intentionally made to resemble Ganondorf from Legend of Zelda.
Johnny Knoxville vs Ganon
A clear example of what a hardcore lifestyle of rock n roll can do to a buff wizard man
Imagine if every time he swung his oversized cleaver, he yelled, "DORIYAH"
Makes more sense especially with travis strikes back although i read some article that said it was supposed to be a darth Vader joke. Idk if its a mixture of both or what but the wide open terrain and castle in the back.
Edit: ohhhhhhh why did i read last boss. Yea he did remind me of ganondorf
Which is funny, because in the smash bro’s mii trailer Travis fights has him fighting ganondorf

I thought that was only in new game plus mode, slipped my mind probably on first play through.
This is a precious coverage for budding game designers. Like, wow, even the game's mundane parts feel important now that you think of it.

I've seen this boss fight a million times and I just now realize her fridge says "Chiller7", a reference to Killer7.
I sure do! Got it right when it came out :)
And that’s awesome man!
GhenryPerez Sounds awesome man, thanks! Let us know when you do that ^_^
Thank you for that.I’d be okayish with the french(i think) but I’m rather short on money right now, so I had to let the Book go for now, but I really want to read it.I appreciate that, really.

Dude the "Heroes" trailer makes me feel like I stepped into the twilight zone. It's like so far off base in tone it feels like a bad parody lol. But that's what makes me love it lol
It should be noted that you dont fight Henry unless you have every beam katana, meaning you have the one designed to look like an actual katana.
I never realized how good the vocabulary is in this game
FUCKHEAD
I got NMH as a gift from my cousin for graduating middle school back in the day. It was a game I knew about but wasn't particularly interested in until I played it. It became one of my favorite game of all time. I really enjoyed your analysis video. Hope to see more vids like it in the future.
Death Metal actually foreshadows the sequels.
I remember someone saying how everyone Travis kills in the games are a reflection of himself and what he would become in the future
Also!
Bad Girl's theme is insanely good.
Dude Suda should remaster NMH 1 and 2 for the Switch.

I don't think they plan on remastering the games, but instead porting
@Joshua Suh all I know is Suda may hinted something for NMH 1 and 2 for Switch. It's up in the air

Bring on the switch ports for 1 and 2
Well now you can
Holy shit, this video is amazing. You made me realize how No More Heroes is way, waaaay deeper than I originally thought it was.
He may have been born Kal'El, but he was raised as Clark Kent.
shut up brony
From an outside perspective, Clark Kent is the costume and Superman is the true identity. Like oh look, Superman is pretending to be a weak, mild-mannered news reporter when he's REALLY a badass alien. It's all perspective. I'm sure he sees himself as Clark Kent before Superman, but that's because he was raised to think so. Ask yourself this, which persona has him pretending to be something he's not? Clark Kent.
@@MaxLoafin
It's the reverse of Batman.
Well now thanks to the switch ports it's straight trash
And it looks good
The best part? You don't have to notice, or care, about any of that. It's surface level humour and outlandish scenarios and plot are enough to carry it. The depth can be sought if you want more, which stops it feeling heavy, forced or in your face.
At least in my opinion
That's about right before I've seen these vids I mostly enjoyed the games for the crazy and somewhat interesting characters
I agree , even in K7 the wacky situations keep you entertained and it so unpretentious
I'm having issues connecting speed buster to your theory

For years I thought I was like 1 of 10 people who loved this series, it’s cool to know that other people dig it as well, dope video
I hope they port the Wii Versions of both games to the Switch. For some reason, the improvements from the PS3 version make the game look worse worst.
In all honesty, that almost always happens when these games get ported to higher-end consoles. Rarely are they perfect ports. The team behind Heroes' Paradise cared more about trying to convenience the hubworld that they ended up making everything else about it much worse.
I own the ps3 version but I never actually played it. I always ay the wii version. Love the motion controls, cheese but brilliant.
Your hopes have treated you well
Fantastic video! Love the perspective of the characters and world. It's why it's my absolute favorite game of all time including the rough yet satisfying game.
I'm hoping Travis Strikes Again takes that title!
Good news from the future...they did use the superior Wii version for the switch port
M R lmao def liked leather jackets a lot more because of Travis touchdown

Massive props on the video and using Nine inch nails (Year Zero) stuff as well to go with it good job man
I finished NMH1 a little over an hour ago and rushed in here to watch this video. I love your takes on Suda 51's work.
"I will delete any new comments addressing this, for the dozens I've already received are enough." This is bad, don't do this. Deleting comments (even redundant ones) is a wet mucus covered slope.
Fair enough, I'll change the message.
I can't wait for the hour long No More Heroes 2 retrospective!
Gotta love how you are using Hotline Miami 2 music while describing Travis job and character
More people need to talk about this game I swear it's so underrated
I see where you're coming from.
Originally Superman had his powers even when he was a toddler.
Shit, said what I was thinking 9 months before I thought it.
@@Ghenry i actually finished no more heroes the day i wrote the comment, i played through killer7 beforehand

i just saw the meta-commentary take a much higher prescence in nmh than killer 7 and the way the story is presented feels a lot like (not an afterthought but) more purposefully sparse

Good news everyone, NMH1 and NMH2 are coming to Steam on June 9th with a 10% discount upon launch!
NMH is one of my favorite games ever. Great video.
I am so down with more of these, its a crying shame there isn't more views.
I hope No More Heroes becomes more popular it deserves more fans
I completed this game on all dificulties but I didn't realize the boss symbolisms until you told me.
Thanks you for the insight
That was great, you really nailed it for most of the points you've made regarding the game.
You could have added the theme of the endless struggle, where the bosses warn Travis that once he entered this world there is no exit. When you fight Death Metal Travis gives this grand speech about his dream life and how it's a facade and he can't find the exit. It doesn't make much, but only after you finish the game with the real ending and restart the game, then this speech makes total sense.
Anyway, you did an awesome job, sorry for the long reply, you're the best around, peace.
I think it's the greatest video about no more heroes on youtube. Keep it up men
Nice use of using Nine Inch Nails song Right where it Belongs at 29:53, man I forgot about that sound until I heard it again and took me a while and I remembered the lyrics, thanks for that. xD Amazing video.

You did an amazing job with this video. I appreciate the work and study you put into it
Man this was a really good watch, great job!
This video is already a nostalgia trip riot. Major props to you for making this video
look man this is an awesome video but that bit about superman is totally incorrect. as good as that little monologue was in context of the film, that parallel makes no sense, because the monologue is totally wrong about superman's character. clark kent was raised human, clark kent was just a normal kid long before he was ever superman. that's where he gets his personality, his love of humanity, and his kind heart. the movies totally screwed with the public perception of superman's character, they make him into a stoic, especially the movies nowadays, when really superman is a much different character. destroyman is, in my opinion, much more a parody and somewhat of a deconstruction of the perception we make of action heroes such as those we find in comics - in that destroyman is the superhero you might find in a world like this, a world that seems to almost be passive to the idea of death while still taking it seriously. a world that entertains its viewers with its ludicrous amounts of blood and gore. it distinctly makes fun of the tropes it makes a caricature out of with a background that we, the viewers, do not have any direct experience with. to say it's a play on the concept of a superhero character from the real world would be nearing a mark, but not quite on it.
@@Ghenry watch superman animated series. It goes deep into Clark's personality.

NMH was my most anticipated game for the Wii back in the day and I consider DesperateStruggle as the best on this platform.
...grapped HeroesParadise a while later and was very disappointed:
It looked weird and the gameplay wasn't as fun without the wiimote :/
but it still had more contents then the wii verison, but you're right With the wiimote and overall
The PS3 has a motion remote and the games compatible, idk how people like you who have played it still complain about this as if it lacked motion support
"that's not a good thing yknow? Seeking meaning in everything.. especially killing, thats a bad habit among smart little girls these days."
this line makes more sense when you realize that Suda 51 used to work as an Undertaker.
29:52 I thought he was supposed to be a parody of those plot twist villians like Darth Vader!
I just noticed something, the bosses lowkey reference different games, here are the ones I noticed so far,
Death Metal - Gannon from Zelda
Destroyman - Megaman
Let's Shake - Sonic (maybe?)
Holly - Metal Gear Solid
Badgirl - Peach from Super Mario
Jeanne - Street Fighter/Tekken
I didn't even think about it, but I had always wondered why the bosses would even take Travis seriously as a fight and challenger but I keep forgetting he has that ranked title that keeps speaking his actions
i was waiting this video so much, make other about No More Heores, and Suda's games
Love this video. Great analysis. Just finished NMH2 and am so looking forward to seeing the NMH2 video you did.
That ad for the clothes had me laughing too much
