I really wanted to get the companion guide done today, but I messed up and forgot to collect data for attribute points for companions and spouses. So I spent 10 hours collecting that data today lol I figured I could at least get this mod install guide out since it doesn't take nearly as long as a regular guide :)

Strat I got a question: How do you retreat without being captured? I've been trying to do your trick where you rally up 40 looters. I run out of arrows, and retreat and I'm captured.
I guess that means to follow my heart! lol.

Nice! I can say from experience that adding mods is like starting the game over from scratch lol In my first modded play through that is being streamed, I lost my entire army and started from scratch... TWICE lol This is after 3500 hours of play time, so that says something. Enjoy your new campaign and keep me posted on what mods you went with and how you like it!
Wow really? Dude if you havent played Prophecy of Pendor or Perisno mods for M&B Warband you havent really experienced M&B at its best.

the earlier mount and blade games made modding a lot easier and a lot of the bigger mods just came with extensions already within the mod so it was a lot simpler to use, a lot less clicks and no doing all of this nonsense.
@@mintz9782 idk how easy it was before but this is utterly ridiculous trying to figure out all the mods in 2024, whats compatible and which patch for each download to download. bout ready to give up trying

No problem, thanks for watching! Adding mods can either help the game feel more fleshed out (like diplomacy mod) or like a completely different game (like RBM with some other unit overhaul mods)! I'm really enjoying my playthrough right now and can't wait to get to the late game battles :)

@@Strat-Guides Probably will test the waters with RBM but really excited to find a custom troop mod. Currently looking threw the list for it and hoping to find something to fix clans switching factions willy-nilly
@@coreyostrander1763 If you're on 1.7.2 I heard that De Re Militari is REALLY good. I'm using 1.8.0 so they don't have an update for it, but True Armies of Calradia has been good so far. The only custom one I can think of off the top of my head is My Little Warband and I've yet to hear a bad thing about it!
In my experience it's best to use the mod Better Exception Window (With Emergency Save and More). It allows you to do better troubleshooting. Sometimes it just references random in game exceptions or references errors that are just caused by the AI existing or doing certain stuff. Especially if you add more warbands or bandits, however it helps that tiny bit to emergency save and possible get the chance to move to the left instead of the right, which might avoid that crash.
Is that a standalone mod or would it replace one of the 4 important one (butterlib, UIIextender, etc.)? I don't know squat about modding so this probably sounds like a stupid question lol
@@Strat-Guides it's a standalone mod that comes before stuff like Butterlib or MCM, but after Harmony. (It's described on the modpage) The exception can be tricky sometimes, but other than that it works with any mod. One of the best mods atm.

Also what happened to the Joan of arc play through, did your save get corrupted or did you just lose interest for it, you also used to be quiet in your old videos, but you’re probably using a script now which is easier then going with the flow
so... i really like the tutorial, it was easy to follow, even non tech-savy people could easily understand and replicate.
and this guide has taught me that im an idiot who kept installing modules into a random outdated file for bannerlords that wasnt connected to the steam version i was using. yes i use PC 10 hours... damnit
Lol ouch! I make mistakes like that too. I recently got a new PC and it took me 3 hours to remember to run the DLL unlocker haha I was pounding my head into the wall trying to figure out why my mods weren't working!

can't wait for steam workshop support, will make modding so much less of a hassle to install. I've stopped using quite a few mods cause they keep breaking with each update, just going to wait till final release when the game is hopefully not getting as many updates.
Yeah for sure, it's way easier when it's all in one spot. It's pretty tedious having to check Nexus every day and installed them manually each time.
I have just one question: Why do you not use the Vortex mod manager?
It makes installation, checking for updates and overall management of the mods quite simple.
As far as I know, there really isn't a reason to not use it. Especially for beginners.
It can't install some mods
It's good to know how to do it manually.
Plus one less 3rd party program needed.
The main three reasons for me:
1) It will break some mods.
2) Some mods are not on nexus mods and are elsewhere, like moddb.
3) Something else to install when it is not needed (I rarely have more than 1-4 mods running as I normally run the beta track but I would concede that a 250+ mod list could be pain without it though).
I don't have any experience with it and I've heard from others that it doesn't handle all mods. It's simple enough to drag and drop folders, but I know what you mean about having to check for updates manually. It can be tedious!

So how did you change the speed of the slow motion factor if the rts camera mod menu is broke? Flesson said something about changing versions of game and rts camera but not sure

Yeah I was just going to say that - I was able to get his working by having him downgrade to 1.7.2 and get the RTS mod for 1.7.2, switch the settings to be where you want them, then switch everything back to 1.8. Thanks, I appreciate that!!

How do I get folders that have 7 zip and Adobe logo on them to look like normal files that work?
Hi strat I was wondering if you have had the bug regarding siege engines not be able to be built when running mods above native?
Hi there! I have not run into that bug yet, is it for every siege you try? Does the AI not build siege engines as well? I'll see if I can test it today and recreate it but to my knowledge sieges have been working normally.
@@Strat-Guides basically only the player can’t build siege engines with the same mods above native as you have on 1.8.0
How to install mods:
Step 1: install.
Step 2: pray to not getting a game update
Step 3: getting an update anyways and watch in horror you cant play anymore because half of the mods stopped working and you have a 50% chance of getting your 40h save corrupted :(.
Lol the struggle is real! Luckily TW has been updating every 3 months or so, giving us a bit of time to enjoy first :)

Do you have any recommendations on mods? I won't be playing with them very soon as I'm only starting out, but it might be useful for the future
I'm just starting out using them myself, but I can definitely recommend Realistic Battle Mod! There are some others that don't change quite as much of the base game but are really cool, like the diplomacy mod and the RTS Camera mod. When you're about ready to start using mods, feel free to reach out and I'll be happy to give some recommendations then! I'll be trying out new ones in the coming weeks.
Calradia Expanded and Calradia Expanded Kingdoms is a great mod. Open Source Armory is also amazing if you just want more armors, same goes for Swabian and Vagir Armor. If you want to use RBM with it, it requires you to play around with the values to make sure the armors have the right values. MY favourite mod by far is "My little Warband" as it allows you create your own units. Want to do Varagians and can't be bothered to run back to Sturgia? Well, simulate recruits coming to you because of your "fame". Houses of Calradia is also fun
The great thing about RBM is that you can modify all armor values.

Concerning the version of Bannerlord you have, I do not have the beta so it does not show the version on the left steam library. The only way I have found the current version is to run the game launcher and it shows the current version on the bottom left.
Oh gotcha, I didn't realize that only showed up for beta branch. You can also see the current version by right clicking on Bannerlord, go to properties and scrolling down the drop down menu to see which patch it highlighted.

A lot easier way is to right click the game on steam, manage>browse local files. Just instant travel even if you have multiple drives with different games. Cheers. love your videos

Ffter downoading harmony and one other the file is a sheet of paper and when opening i am promopet ot open in word or other types of programs. did i miss a step?

This install guide shows how to do it manually, without the help of a special launcher like Vortex. If you want to try one, I think Vortex is the best one from what I've heard.
I'm going to start a new campaign tonight after downloading some mods, but some of them are only compatible with 1.0.1 while others are compatible with the current version. Should I just run the 1.0.1 version?
I just noticed one of them says 1.8 so I may have to go back pretty far. Also how do I delete mods if they end up corrupting a file? I don't even know if that's a thing ( I know very little about computers ) but I'd like know how just in case.
It really depends on the mod. I was using some mods that were compatible with 1.5 and my game was on full release patch 1.0 lol Best way is to just test them. I usually start with a full list, turn them all on and see if it crashes. If it runs, then you're good. If not, turn them off and add one by one.
@@Strat-Guides ok I'll try that. It's all very confusing to me. The only Swadian Armoury I can use is RBM, but it's v1.0.1 and the only RBM I can find is v1.0.3. Some mods are dependent on others and some of those versions are v1.9. When it comes to deleting mod files from Nexus do I just right click the file and put it in the bin, or is it more complicated?
@@Strat-Guides sorry to bug, man. I'm quite positive I followed your video step-by-step, but it's not working for me. After dragging the unzipped files to modules and running the unlock program, the only mods that show up in the mods list are the ones from the workshop.

Hey Fabian! Yeah I have the RTS camera mod active, but it's the one on the RBM page. Also, they state that it mostly doesn't work and I'm only using it for the speed-up in battle function so I'm not sure about the other stuff it's used for. They said the mod author has no updated it in many months :(

Help!!!! I’ve been modding but I can’t figure this out. How do I load them in the right order? Like how do I get butterlib harmony etc in front of the native and sandbox???
Sorry I should have covered that - when you go to the mods tab on the launcher, there are 3 bars to the left of the text and to the right of the check box for each mod. Click and drag that up and down depending on where you need them to be. I hope that helps, but if you're still stuck let me know and I can find a better way to show you - maybe a screenshot on discord or something.

I downloaded ButterLib, Harmony, Mod Configuration Menu, UlExtenderEx and surrender Tweaks and it doesn't work, what might be wrong? I did what you did, except not manual, only that Vortex

I don't have any experience with Vortex as I've heard it has conflicts with certain mods so I avoid using it. I would try to do it manually and see if that clears it up? Yeah application faced a problem means it's not installed properly and causing a crash. It happens at the loading screen right?

Yeah I can put together a short video on that sometime! Until then I did cover all of the scouting perks, which help movement speed: th-cam.com/video/fP-mPSKAJsg/w-d-xo.html The other trees that has movement speed perks for the campaign map are athletics (200 Strong perk) and Riding (100 sweeping winds). Hope that helps for now!
When i select the directory of the game it keep saying that i select wrong one and i tried everything but it didn't work help
Do a system wide search for a folder called "Modules" and you should be able to shortcut that. You can also go to Steam, right click Bannerlord, local files tab, browse button at the top and you'll see modules when it opens up the folder. Hopefully that does it!

My mods aren't showing up in the launcher and i don't know why, I extracted the files and put them in the modules tab and theyre just not there.
The only thing I can think of is to make sure the you're unpacking the right stuff. I know some mods have an extra folder you have to unpack even after you zip and some are good to go as they are downloaded. The folder you want in your module folder should match the mod name to some degree - like RBM for Realistic battle mod or RTScamera for RTS camera. If it unzips as something else like "module" or "mod" you need to go one level deeper and unpack.

Yeah I much prefer the steam workshop for mods. I used it quite a lot with Rimworld and it was so easy!

Does anyone know if the Harmony mod is still broken? I know that without it its very hard to have a lot of mods.
So I haven't had any issues with Harmony since I started using mods a couple weeks ago. I think it's good to go!

Do you actually only play that few games Strat? I'm surprised you don't have a bigger library! Then again Bannerlord can easily make you sink 1000s of hours of time before you feel like it's repetitive
I have a huge library actually, but I have a bunch of the older games hidden because I don't like to clutter up my library. If you add in the games I owned before I created a steam account many years back, it's probably in the 400 - 500 range lol I've played A LOT of games in my days :)

hey every time i want to play with a mod i get a notification "the application faced a problem" does anyone know what the problem is
If it's happening right when you launch the game, it's either a conflict of mods, they weren't installed correctly or the DLLs are still blocked. If you're only using a single mod then it's probably one of the others. The most common is no unblocking DLLs, which can be done with the DLL unblocked from Nexus.
Looking at your steam library, I would love to see you play some Rimworld.
Hahaha I figured I would get comments about the library :) I love Rimworld! I have not played it in over a year at this point, but maybe in the future I could do a video or two on it. I loved playing with the realistic weapons mods that made bullets travel much faster and you had to craft ammunition.

@@jajsem1109 I'm generally very methodical in Rimworld and usually conservative (I can't recall the setting, but I use the one that doesn't allow saves). I need to get through a couple more Bannerlord guides still but I'll consider it once those are off my plate :)

Yeah I know what you mean. I've only ever downloaded stuff from Nexus because they are a reputable site, but I probably wouldn't trust others (except maybe a github for a fix). Also Steam added the workshop and you can find most of these on there - that might be the better route actually!

@@herminatorh8188 click on Bannerlord on steam and look for the workshop tab (it's under where it displays your play time with the game). Once you go to the workshop, find a mod you want and subscribe to it. Then when you launch Bannerlord, clock on the mods tab before you launch and make sure the mod is checked. That should do it!

Neither, really appreciate this stuff my guy, im 30 and have been a console Gamer since childhood and the 64 finally got a decent PC set up like 3 years ago and still not quite sure how to do some of the basic stuff, I see something like 7 folders deep and I just get confused and scared I'm gonna brick my PC hahaha
@@cynicalpsycho5574 Lol I know what you mean! I've ruined save files before trying to mess with game files so I generally don't mess with it. These are pretty tame though since it's just dragging folders around and you don't overwrite anything (unless you're updating a mod by overwritting that mod, but not an original game file). I played consoles most of my childhood and I think I stopped at the xbox 1 way back when lol those were good times!!

i installed rbm and i think the bow is bugged.when i shoot it shoots way above my crosshair,what can i do?
There is an option to change the aim correction in the settings, it sounds like that might have been changed for some reason. Go into the settings, Gameplay tab, under the camera section look for Enable Vertical Aim Correction. See if changing that does anything for you. Hopefully that's what the issue was!

i made a pause in bannerlord... because of a mod... the warhammer mod... that made me want to play tw warhammer 2 again

Is there a reason to avoid the Nexus Vortex mod manager?
I've heard from others that it doesn't work with certain mods. That's the only thing I can think of but it's probably much easier to use vortex. Steam workshop should be out before end of the year so hopefully we won't need it soon!
mines on Epic Games and the folder for the game is not called "Mount & Blade II Bannerlord" .... its called "Chickadee" -_- no wonder i couldnt find it

I can't get the game to launch with just harmony, butterlib, mcm, and uiextender. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
none of the dlls are blocked, I have my mod order set to harmony, butterlib, uiextender, and MCM then the native stuff.
I have discord if that helps.
Nvm I figured it out, UIExtenders folder was missing the EX so it wasn't being used by the other mods, it's working now thank god. Thanks anyways though.

This video was really helpful but i have one (not so) slight problem. I don't have the LaunchMe file and dunno how to get it. Can you please explain it to me? Did i miss something?

Download the DLL unblocker and unzip that to your desktop. You should see the LaunchMe file for the DLL unblocker there!
@@Strat-Guides The LaunchMe thing worked, but the mod still didn't. I am downloading freelancer if that helps.
@@jsahgafgssfvgbgashjsajnsa The only other thing I can think of is making sure the patch version matches - otherwise you might want to check on the forum section for that mod on Nexus, sometimes they have good info on there. I wish I could help more but I'm not very technically savvy :(

I did not know the DLL blocker was a thing. I guess I've gotten lucky with not having any crashes lol
I think certain programs that unpack will do it for you automatically? I'm not positive of that, but I heard some others talking about never having to use it as well and has to do with winzip or something. I use 7zip and I have to use the unlocker.
@@Strat-Guides I just had to do it with a mod that heals you on kills so not sure what that did but the others didn't. Either way thank you! Otherwise I wouldn't have a clue on what they are talking about

@@ethanbrown7198 I'm not sure. I've heard that most people use 7zip but I'm not sure if there's a technical reason or preference, but it's worth a shot if you're having issues.

Hmm i am using winrar and never had issues with unlocked dll files, think its the same for 7zip…
I have 7zip and it crashes most of the time when I forget to unlock :(

How to u get the module folder I don't have one I use cracked
It was there from the install, so if you don't have one then I'm not exactly sure.
im playing on pc using xbox pass the is not detecting the mods i dont know why, anyone can help me please?
My guess is the folder is located in a different location? I really have no clue since I'm not on gamepass, but I wish you luck in figuring it out!

I put my more in the folder but they don't show up on launcher
Sometimes the mod is packaged a bit more - you need to make sure that the file you download is down to the folder named after the mod. If it says "module" or something else, then try opening that up and putting it in the modular folder. I noticed some creators put them in module and some just put the file directly in the zip. Aside from that, I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't show up? I've made this exact mistake before so that's why I know it lol
@@Strat-Guides ah yes my mistake , the folder was inside deeper like you said, but it has that little red ! In the launcher menu tho.

I did everything right but my mods don't show still
If they aren't showing when you click on the mod tab at the loading screen, you might need to unlock the files that you put into modules. Go in there and see if you can find the ones you installed there and open them up. If you see another single folder inside, then try to take that out, out it into modules and see if they show up. Sometimes the unzip still has another layer of folders :(

So I have not used that mod yet, but I just looked and it requires all 4 mods I have shown that go before the base game - butterlib, UI Extender, etc. If you follow the instructions in this guide it SHOULD work lol I can't promise anything because I have not tried it myself, but based on what the author of the mod says it should be good to go.

Yeah it might be. I'm really hoping they get to full release soon so the modders can make reliable mods without having to update them every couple weeks or month lol

You might want to go back to 1.7.2 until they get everything sorted out :( It seems 1.8 hotfix broke a lot of mods.

I’ve been trying this for multiple days now and have gone from video to video to figure out how to do this crap and nothing works. Idk if I’m just an idiot and am missing something or If it’s just not working. I’m seriously losing it because I’ve been trying to do this for almost an hour straight. I am new to modding so it might just be my fault and that I’m just a idiot or it’s something else because I have been trying at this so hard and I’m honestly like about to give it up because this is just the definition of Hopeless. I just don’t think I’m smart enough to mod crap if anyone has an idea of what to do then just drop a tip or something.
It's okay, if you've never done it before it can be quite challenging and scary to rummage through files. Which part are you stuck on? Have you been able to download the mods and place them in the modules folder? Did you remember to UnlockDLL? Did you make sure to enable them on the mods page of the launcher? I'll try to help but I need more info to be of use
@@Strat-Guides I’m stuck on the part where I implement the files I put them where everyone else puts them like I’m supposed to and I even did the thing with the DLL like the video said but when I open the game up I don’t see any of the mods. But something I noticed is that some of the mods aren’t folders but like these page things. I saw your mods of your video and they look different but idk if it’s anything relevant. But other then that I’m sure I did everything
@@ENLIL100 That's a good point - sometimes the mod author will put the files inside a folder called "module" inside of the zip file. Be sure when you unzip to take the filed inside that folder out! It should always say the description of the mod on the folder name, so if it's anything else (like module) then you need to take stuff out further.
@@Strat-Guides Thank you for replying back. It was late before so I left some things out by mistake but exactly what’s happened is that I before tried to install mods before but it didn’t work. These mods appear as pages instead of the normal folders again I don’t know if that means anything but anyways. I then went to your video then installed the same mods to see if they would work. I took them and unzipped the files (These files appeared as folder btw instead of the pages) and used the DLL unblock. I’m confident that the DLL worked because I tried it again multiple times and it says that “No files are Blocked”. So do you think that I should delete all the mods and reinstall them? Also a bonus question, Is there any way to convert things into a normal folder or does it just have to be a compressed Zip folder?
@@Strat-Guides hold on I just tried did it all over again and the two mods are in! Now the only issue is just what’s going on with the rest of the mods that I have.
You can discard the first message if you want I just looked into it more and I think what’s happening with the other mods is that it’s being opened with the note pad app and that’s why their not showing as folders. Is their anything that I can do to fix that?
My mod folder for bannerlord doesn’t exist

You cannot run the DLL unblocker while it's in the zip file still. Create a folder on your desktop and unzip them to that folder, then try to run the .exe and that should fix it!
@Strat Gaming it just deletes the files right afterward... I'm watched your video 20 times and it won't work. Just Vanilla bannerlord for me
I paused playing Bannerlord until the game is launched. Just too many crashes.
For example, bandits mod crashes on the campaign map few days into playing.
The game is too dry and lackluster endgame without a few mods, and way too unstable atm - not to mention it runs slower in 1.8.0 (loading the campaign map takes longer sometimes, some towns cause a graphics glitch, etc.).
The ratio of having fun vs. issues is not great atm, so might as well play Rimworld or sth like that where the developer is more vigilant and in tune with the community.
I think they said the release will be in October, so hopefully that is the case! It would be nice having mods work for more than a month when they patch :)
You can't go wrong with Rimworld, I've got at least 1k hours into that game as well!
Will I still be able to play my vanilla campaign?
Yeah you can turn on mods when you want to use them and then turn them off before you launch the next time when you want to go back to vanilla. It's really easy!

I dunno about good - But I have just shy of 5k hours into it so I mostly know what I'm doing hehe I plan on making some guides for EU4 in the near future just to see how they do. It's such a fun game!

@@KS_Amt38 I never really focused on the achievements but I might make some videos on a few of the harder ones. I think the last one I actually went for was big blue blob. If I recall, I was able to get it 20 years early or so? I think the only one that really scares me is the three mountains lol I just don't have that much time to spend on a single achievement! What's your favorite one to get?
@@Strat-Guides oh yeah three Mountains seem hard, especially it's a lot of micromanaging the vassal swarm. Never tries it before. My favourite run was the One Faith run with the Ottomans, it was quite challenging especially converting all of the colonies in the late game.
@@KS_Amt38 That sounds like a good one! Ottomans are a lot of fun to play as, nothing like that feeling of "nobody can touch me" from the start :) I also like Islam for one faith, the trade node conversion are sooo good! What was your strategy for the new world conversions anyhow?

That's a good question, I'm not sure but I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work? It should but I don't know enough about that to say for sure.
I don't have the bracket with the version in my list. Hmmst. Maybe it's cause of Linux.
Hm... that might be the case. There are a couple other ways to check - If you right click on your game in steam, click on properties, then the betas tab, open the drop down menu and scroll down to see which patch version you're on. Also if you go to load a save game, it tells you which patch you are on at the very top right. Check a game you saved recently and it should say a long number, you just need the first 3 digits. I hope that helps!
You get brackets if you use a "beta version" which includes the 1.8. version. I recommend using this since it also stops steam from automatically updating the game, which breaks mods usually.
Ohhh, it's for Betas, you know, now that I look at my other games (I use this feature for one single game lol) I do see the brackets.

Nice guide, only that patch version you said it wrong. You said we can see the patch version we are currently at... (it's true and false)
It's true IF the person went out of its way and went to: Properties-> Betas -> And finally you select the desired version of the betas.
If you opt out from the betas(and this is by default) there is no version on the brackets, it's just says Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.
And like Vlad Hut (in the comment section) said it's way easier to find the folder by doing : right click on Bannerlord -> Manage -> Browse Local Files

Lol I don't recall the order but I think his first is the flaming arrow shot. He's also got invis and an attack speed boost. I didn't play much Clinkz to be fair :P I much prefer to play with the big boys like Pudge and ES!

honestly bethesda games and the earlier mount and blade games are easier in comparison. like a lot of this i feel could be compressed.
Don't ever say "don't bother to get paid version" it helps the site keep running, I do not speak for nexus mods but they need to keep server running too, if free version would have kept their server running then they wouldn't have made premium version to begain with
Fair point, but my first and only loyalty is to my viewers who watch my videos and if they don't need to spend the money because there is no tangible benefit to them, I'm going to point that out. I understand where you're coming from and the website needs to stay in operation, but again they aren't my responsibility but I see my viewers that way. Next time I will point that out - "there is no benefit to getting a paid account, but if you want to support their amazing work to keep mods hosted here then feel free to sign up". I think that would be a reasonable compromise.

No we can't because that's not how Steam works. The fact that none of the other games in your library have version numbers should have given that away pretty damn quickly.
Steam only displays the version information if you pick an obsolete version in the betas tab. Stop spreading misinformation.
