Kia ora Mumma, I made your fried bread the other day, and I have to say they are the best I've ever had. Thank you. I've just started your Rewana Bug. I've been making it for years over here in Australia but always thought there was something missing. Yours looks the bomb, I can't wait. My granny used to make it when I was back home in Tolaga Bay, but never got her recipe before she passed. Next on the list is your bacon and egg pie. Cheers Mumma and have a lovely Xmas.
Thanks on behalf of my wife who is a preschool teacher looking to make her first Rewena bread to celebrate Matariki this year. Your video was super helpful!
Kia Ora Mumma, awesome video showing the precise measurements and methods to make authentic Rewena paraoa! I need to brush up my Rewena skills for my tamariki at our early learning Centre. Ngā mihi nui.
Kia Ora! In your Step 2. We are separating 1 tbsp bug, 1 tsp sugar + the 1 cup of leftover potato water (is this warmed?), also, when do we feed it flour? Is it possible to keep the original bug and just keep feeding that? Sorry, I was a bit confused 😇
Thank you for your time and instructions. When making the bug itself, do I wait until the original floured mixture has fermented and then use the reserved (1cup) potato water + sugar + original?
Kia Ora Whaea, thank you for teaching us rewana bug, I've done the original it's my first time just doing it now, it's sitting in my boiling cupboard in a bowl with a dinner plate over it becuz i have no containers. But now that it's gonna take a couple days to rise, what do i do with the potatoe bug juice do i put it in the fridge?
@@mummaskitchen2656 I accidentally put a little bit of canola oil on my original bug on the dough i forgot i was thinking of the actual rewana bread putting it in the oven once it's risen. I forgot it's my first bug with potato bug i got taught by someone to do the yeast bread and i was taught to put canola oil on the dough while it rises within 5 hrs. Is it gonna damadge my bug coz i put canola oil on it only a little bit tho.
@@mummaskitchen2656 The reason why i got more potatoe juice is be ause originally i was cooking potatoes for my chicken roast but i ended up changing my mind and using it for making my first potato bug.
Whaea my fried bread dough has risen but i just realized I've run low on oil, i can't fry it up tonight, can i leave my dough in the pot til Thursday i buy a canola oil? Or do i have to fry it now? With the small amount of oil i have?
Make it into a bread loaf...shape it and oven cook it...YUM!!! You can throw it in a bowl n cover it so it does dry out in the fridge. Use the next day after it warms up n comes to life again
Kia Ora Whaea. nga mihi for the recipe I've just started the process and made the dough yesterday and I just wanted to know if I need to feed it today or it's ok to sit for a few days without having to add anything (sugar/potato water)??

Do you have marmalade & jam recipes?
does it have to be raw sugar.
Kia ora Whaea, Is the starter what we use to make the bread? And the original is what feeds the starter?

Just querying, Is it Rewana, or Rewena. Just wanted to know as we were taught "Rewena"
Both. Transliteration of "leaven" / "levain" 👍
Thank you Mumma ❤
Just checking whether that is raw sugar that was aided to the bug
Yep...but you could add white...I just use raw sugar in everything at my whare
Ataahua Whaea!
My starter is not foamy, it’s been 3 days

also what should the dough look like at 24hrs? mine isn't bubbling looks more like dough just before kneeding it (if that makes sense)
