Then the fact that she had taken an abortion but not told Felipe before the engagement, and later the news that they both had decided to hide the info from the king and queen and the public, aggravated the situation when that was leaked (originally by Letizia’ s cousin). Letizia cut out her sisters in law when she became queen, especially in light of the scandal that affected Urdangarin ) who ended up in jail) and his wife infanta Christina. Then of course she wanted nothing with king Juan Carlos due to his numerous scandals. Then there was the infamous Palma cathedral episode against her mother in law Queen Sofia when she was criticized by the entire press. The recent leaks from Jaime Peñafiel, cf. Jaime Del Burgo that Letizia was so unhappy inside the royal and had decided to leave Felipe and Spain with her daughters, marry Del Burgo, etc. have dominated the Spanish social media and society recently, with the official Spanish press making the whole story taboo. Letizia has been quite controversial in Spain , and that is an understatement. Silvia, Maxima and Mary of Denmark are respected and loved in their countries. Sonia is not loved but respected in Norway. ( I live in Norway, have lived in Sweden in the 70’ s where my father was close the royal court and I still have friends close to the royal family, and am half argentine, so I write with some knowledge )
