After watching every TH-cam video on the ECT 3000, I tried to use it to locate a short to ground in the wiring harness running from the fuse box to the fuel gauge on my Jeep. After placing the green probe in the fuse box, the transmitter signaled a short, I then locked in the signal from the transmitters green wire connection. The receiver wasn't much help at all in locating the that short to ground.
Receiver too damn big , a extended flexible head or extended solid antenna options , good tool if you working in large open area, it Would be nice if you release a updated smaller Version that will work with the existing transmitter
Once you plug the back probe onto the wire it will determine whether it's open or short. Since you only have it plugged up to the battery and don't have the probe on a wire /circuit it will display open cause it's not hooked to anything, so therefore open. Hope that makes since.
Hi, great demo, thank you. Can you advise if Power Probe will sell these demo boards. I am a trade teacher and this looks much more professional than my set up?
Hi Rick. So far, I custom build these, but they have been talking about producing this new single case style in quantity. If they do I will post about here.
Saludos, tengo una duda... Para buscar un cable picado seria mas seguro retierar los postes de la batería que alimentan a todo el vehículo? Solo conecto la herramienta a +/- de batería dejando todo el resto de los circuitos sin voltaje...?
When tracing for opens or broken connections it is probably safer and to ensure there would be no voltages anywhere in the wiring. Only when tracing shorts that the battery must be connected to maintain the connection to ground.
Very true! It will get you in the vicinity but that’s the best it run do. Especially on a short to ground because receiver wants to trace every ground wire in the whole car.
Both the Maestro and PP4 - when you select AC P-P mode, the Min and Max numbers will display correct bottom and top voltages for both CAN Hi and CAN Lo.
See this video to verify that the receiver and transmitter are working correctly - th-cam.com/video/OKVoV6nV5yw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mwgWLZ-kC3eAjJZH If the tool does not respond like in the video, there may be a fault with the tool.
This is one of the best how-to videos on ECT3000. I was using it all wrong to chase an open circuit until this video. Thank you.
Awesome "RadioShack electronic learning lab-like video!

Finally someone who knows how to make a great video explaining simply (for even a dumbskull like me) how to use this device! Thanks So Much!!🙂👏
What if the circuit isn’t fully opened? Like just a pinched wire with a few threads still hanging on will it still detect an open circuit?
Couldn't you just rule that out with a load test?
Few wires hanging on would not be an open circuit, voltage drop test needed as said .
I load test wiring issues.

Question... If it always powers up displaying an open circuit... how do I know when there is a "real" open to track down?

To find an open circuit location....why do I need to remove the + voltage?

@@13GADGETMAN , thank you, I hope they do so as I can present the demo more clearly
Thank You!
Great work

It’s great for simple stuff like this but not for a big bulky harness going everywhere on a truck

Where can i buy it and how much is it ?
great.
Can the powerpool meystro can bus plus can buzz minus

Not the best but thank you. It’s a $250 buy
Mine doesn’t work. It doesn’t pick up any signal on any wire
