Also I find it interesting that they pick Fantasie Impromptu for Sunday, who is all about maintaining meticulous, near neurotic control over every aspect of his life, and an "impromptu fantasy" is all about just being in the moment and feeling emotions at their fullest.
It incredible and yet always baffles me how you can accurately depict the emotions, themes, and message from the music pieces you listen to even when you have little to no knowledge of their context. Or some. It’s made me dissect music more thoroughly whereas before I would only listen to the emotional aspect
To add a little to the discussion around @5:38 , a Bronze Melodia is basically a confession booth priest/pastor. So there he was, hearing about how people were suffering, and could offer nothing but empty promises to them, hence sadness of the score
The reason it's so ominous at the onset is... well, kinda exactly what you said; Sunday is a character with a lot of power - both in combat and politically on Penacony - and basically fills the Mastermind role in the story. When we meet him, he's cruel and arrogant and untrusting of everyone in his life. He's doing the wrong thing and playing the villain for what he sees as a good purpose. We haven't seen him since his downfall, but at that point both we and Sunday learned that he was entirely, utterly wrong. Seems likely that he's going to actually learn and grow from his mistakes (and also from getting rammed by the Astral Express like 9 times I guess)
i love your musical commentary as always! you've definitely got the duality part down pat, though something i think is interesting to note is all the layers of symbolism in the visuals! most of the imagery is found in 2.2, so it makes sense that you wouldn't know what to make of it, but we discover there that sunday is a character with a lot of christian religious motifs, so i find the gestures that the enemies around the two sundays are doing to be significant. the sunday in the lighter gray suit is the sunday of the past, the one you saw in 2.0. the enemies he is surrounded by are called "past confined and caged", and they're holding what i believe are specifically votive candles- which is a gesture of mourning. the sunday in the half-blue coat is the sunday of the present, and he is surrounded by "tomorrow in harmonious chords", who are all folding their hands in prayer- a gesture of hope. there are a lot of dualities playing out in this trailer: past and future, grief and hope, freedom and captivity, faith and doubt- it was so lovely to watch you pick up on those notes!
One small detail that people overlook is that the 2 enemies fighting are The "past" and "future" Just helps to show more of the duality and state of mind of his character, his past and future selves are at odds and fighting, with the future eventually winning
I legit pogged at my desk when I heard the Chopin. I learned that piece when I was in middle school and it has some special memories for me. So cool to hear classical music featured in Hoyoverse stuff again.
Worth mentioning the enemies are significant here, as the thing with the caged candle head is called "Past Confined and Caged" and the red violin thing is named "Tomorrow in Harmonious Chords." There's a lot you can read into that, especially considering one of the Sundays here are what he was wearing when you first meet him in the story and the other is his new outfit after that story's conclusion
The opening segment of the PV is an adaptation of the beginning of _Carol of the Bells_. It also features Chopin's _Fantaisie-Impromptu_; and _La Campanella_, the third of six pieces in _Grandes Études de Paganini, S. 141_ (1851), composed by the Hungarian composer Liszt. In the past, the usual Sunday might have been better suited to the precise and intricate counterpoint of Baroque polyphony. However, here, Romantic works are used instead, reflecting a transition from the meticulous master and steward to the voyagers and travelers charting the stars. It can only be said that HoYoverse truly excels in their craft. (copied comment)
all this negativity in the comment section over 2 shots. idc how much of a fan of others or not-fan of hyv you are, but some of you guy's takes will always and forever be performative if you only started caring about the difference between plagiarism and inspiration after hyv is brought into the equation. only talking about the wrongs hyv did and never actually talking about the problem itself. not to mention berating and insulting people who actually play and enjoy the game (which is a separate thing from the trailers, btw. shocking. i know. /s). unfortunately, the so-called "mature people" are far too "mature" to get their point across with the same righteousness apparently. this community rarely fails to disappoint me.
The thing I like about Marco is that this guy does not know anything, yet he is able to deduce what the character is based simply off of their TRAILER MUSIC!!!!!!! Great skills my guy.
Sunday is by far one of the most interesting characters within Honkai Star Rail. If I had to describe him- he’s somewhat like a Scaramouche in which (and you seem to already know about) that he was the antagonist of the plot at one point. The duality between what he believes and reality, now being forced to confront it all. Plus with all the religious motifs in his character (especially in game when he’s spitting Bible verses). I wish you were still playing HSR to get a deeper look at his character, however the fact you were able to get a lot just from his music alone is astounding (and accurately too)
Genshin player here. I follow the HSR story loosely, but Penacony had me pinned down hard. It is one of the most brilliant pieces of storytelling I’ve ever come across.
would not be caught dead defending onmyoji or neteas especially, even if it does suck that hyv took inspiration (not plagiarise, it would do you good to learn the difference) from them of all things
even though sunday trailer isnt as flashy as kafka, acheron, sparkle but it shows his lore so good. like it has been repeted multiple times yes but still like its a huge highlight about him
God damn never thought id see you react to something star rail related again I'm actually shocked I thought the game was completely blocked Anyway I loved everything about this trailer the music and visuals the only down side is the one visual part of the trailer being accused of plagiarism that has now tainted a overall very good trailer sigh. Just shows how 1 minor thing can hurt a trailer as a whole.
Damn I appreciate the piano animations they showed here. Especially that 2d little thing that shows up when he’s playing it. Absolutely beautiful. It’s also not flashy like the other trailers, but it does show a lot more of his story which is really good. Honestly what I like more about this trailer is the classical music they took. This is what I love about gacha games, the developers may be greedy at times, but the producers and animators can truly never disappoint the audience with their art.
Hoyo stole from Onmyoji, Black Clover, Frieren, and Mushoku Tensei, and they even stole the design of the HSR adventurine lightcone and traced it from the original artist
Copyright for Chinese is Right to Copy. If the original can't compete then it is their fault. I even heard some Onmyoji fans said they will join HSR fan in making drama against their own game because the Onmyoji devs are apparently being stupid.
@rpk321 they literally stole a creator's design and traced it for adventurines lightcone and did not even credit the original artist the fact you're okay with a billion-dollar company that steals from Japanese animes and artists doing that shiit. Because we all know it was the other way around you deranged Hoyo fans would be attacking that game or artists.
@rpk321 and it's funny because Hoyo was forced to change Griseo's scene from HI3 that they stole from Frieren and they stole so many designs from other games including alchemy stars
@Shhh_94 And you can't exactly find anything nowadays that someone somewhere won't find something similar in the millions upon millions of works that float around on the internet.
We have yet another case which happens to parallel Marco being unable to distinguish between Chopin & Hoyo-mix, the case whether Hoyoverse is truly a music company in disguise or not. I hope there's some Star Rail on the Marco roadmap soon for Marco's enjoyment of 2.0 onward
I saw somebody freakout about how well this was done, and I didn't understand why. I audibly said "Hopefully Marco will react to it, he delivers good insight, so hopefully I can glean why it was good from him."
"did he kill... her...?" oh god no sunday could never, he loves robin too much. there's actual in-game plot reasons why they're not meeting again and it doesn't involve the siblings dying, thank fuck. honestly, i'm glad i learned piano for a bit when i was a kid, it helps me appreciate sunday's playing even more. i don't know how accurate the playing actually is, but they're editing it so well it kinda doesn't matter, you can't see it that well anyway and the editing adds to the Vibes TM. but also it kinda doesn't matter anyway for me because all that concentration kinda just disappears the moment we get piano jousting.
So thats the contract that Sunday "signed" with Jade....ookaayyyy, so in order to attain Freedom and repent for his sins, he has to bid farewell to his biggest part of his life which is his sister, Robin.
I felt the avventurine story beats to be incredibly boring in 2.0 plus I was auditioning for a lot of the roles you’re seeing now so some of the plot was being spoiled so it lost its umph plus I just wasn’t invested in the characters. I like the gameplay a lot but want to play more
In Star Rail you stopped playing JUST before all the operatic stuff and where a lot of this comes into play lol I totally recommend giving it a playthrough
really love your insights even though you don't have a context about it yet. Highly suggest you play the rest of Penacony we will be entering a new world next time kinda excited what music they will bring us again.
Sunday: Piano jousting

Sunday: PIANO JOUSTING

I appreciate you letting me know about this today!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed Fantasie Impromptu
Well, he's going to learn to not be that way, so I think it makes sense.
It's sunday's redemption arc, where he breaks away from that neuroticism
he just got pummeled out of it... with a train.
It incredible and yet always baffles me how you can accurately depict the emotions, themes, and message from the music pieces you listen to even when you have little to no knowledge of their context. Yes!!! He’s so right and putting all the emotions of what makes this video so cool into words and doesn’t even know much about Sunday at all
I appreciate this sweet comment so much

React to A gentleman's fantasy. Argenti's boss theme is classical and sounds like kingdom hearts
wait, who 'owns' classical music pieces?
The people playing them. Symphonies. Record labels. Though technically they’re free use
I highly reccommend listening to Limbus Company's ost

I can hear the chorus of Fischl's battle theme "Die Mittsommernacht-Fantasie" on this one. Such a masterpiece! 🎉
