Honestly all adaptations (except Jim Henson's The StoryTeller) make me root for the stepsisters over Cinderella. Disney started a stylistic trend with the story (as per normal) where the protagonist is dull and he uses his villain//negative-force roles to villify people who are unusual ( and this pattern has culturally continued into almost all Cinderella versions ). It's a bastardization of what the Grimm Brothers were trying to elaborate in their tales (though I adore the scenes with these stepsisters on their own)
Considering how few roles there are for women in theatre (and especially in film) giving this role to a guy, no matter how talented he is, is irritating.
sopranosd Maybe not really old theatre like Shakespeare. But there is an equally large market for female actors in theatre, especially musical theatre, these days.
FreckleBeard Oh girlfriend, relax. I've worked in this business for 30 years, and I can tell you categorically that there are many more roles for men, especially in theatre, tv and film, than there are for women. Review the credits of various shows on IMDB or look up old playbills, or, indeed, read something ever, and you will see what I mean. In musical theatre we see a few more women onstage, but then there are shows like the Last Ship, which has exactly one female lead.
I love the costume design for these step sisters! The extreme contrast between the round bubble shape and lanky stick shape add more to their quirky personalities and all together create a more humorous character to them both
I love the idea of having a guy as one of the stepsisters. Had I been more secure of my sexuality in high school I totally would have auditioned as one haha I think it would have been funnier if this guy made his character more masculine but he still gave a very solid performance. Probably the best stepsister I've seen lol
It reminds me of something one of my teachers said about Okinawan dance. The women's parts are played by men and the men's parts are played by women--because of the understanding that the opposite gendered person can "perform" the expected gender norms of the other gender's part better than a person of that gender can.
At my school's performance of the Enchanted Edition of Cinderella a guy auditioned and got the role of Godmother for one of the casts. And he absolutely stole the show whenever he performed.
Now that gender dysphoria is affirmed by psychiatry it is en vogue. Can’t wait for them to affirm schizophrenic’s voices and all liberals will have alters and walk around talking g\to themselves. They will have all their voices’ names in their Twitter bio, after their pronouns.
First of all this is so hilarious, I don't know how many times I've watched it. Secondly, they BOTH are amazing. At first I couldn't take my eyes of Nick Garrison because it's brilliant that they cast him and he is so incredibly talented.... and then I watch Sarah Rudinoff and can't stop laughing. The read on 00:51 "She's only as graceful as a bird" her physicality matches anything Nick does. They are brilliant together. I want to see them do more- like Mame and Sideshow- I don't care who plays who.
Nick’s facial expressions are a special treat in this. Sometimes you will find yourself performing next to someone who isn’t just good but exceptional. I performed a tap version of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” with Randy Davis in the early 80s. He was a natural and went on to perform professionally. When you put your ego aside and let them shine, you both look great! I’m reminded of Burns and Allen. Once Burns realized that SHE was the comedic genius, they rose to stardom.
That song is hilarious! I was 9 years old when I saw the TV special with Lesley Anne Warren, Stuart Diamond and Pat Carroll in 1965, as one of the sisters who sung this song. It was a classic then and it's a classic now, and brilliant touch with one of the stepsisters being a man! And it works well!!!!
I also think the choreography here was excellent. They emphasized everything so well and we're right where they needed to be to make the movements look natural
I kind of assumed that this musical would be boring, because everyone already knows the story so well. Boy was I wrong. Rodgers and Hammerstein, you two have wowed me yet again.
Just listened to an interview Betty gave about this performance. She never had a rehearsal with the choir and orchestra together, only separately. She was subbing for an opera singer that had dropped out at the last moment. Amazingly fantastic, considering she only wanted to finish with the boys and orchestra at the same time! 😂
The way both wicked stepsisters of Cinderella sang their lament at the prince's royal ball, it makes me realized that I felt sorry for them, a little much.
Im auditioning for Cinderella next week, and this is 100 percent my typecast. I played Sponge in James and the Giant Peach with the same company I'm auditioning for last year, so Im honestly expecting to end up being cast as this. But I'm gearing my audition towards Fairy Godmother, because I want to broaden my range and do something I'm less confident in. I loveddd playing Sponge, but also it was one of my easiest roles. It definitely taught me a lot about how to create a dynamic character and go way over the top and just have fun on stage: definitely healed my relationship with character work. But I think I need to grow more and be a more well-rounded actor, and a more challenging and subtle role like Fairy Godmother is something that interests me. Wish me luck! (if u read this far lol)
Prunella: Why should a fellow want a girl like her a frail and fluffy beauty why can't a fellow ever once prefer a solid girl like me Esmerelda: She's a frothy little bubble with a flimsy kind of charm and with very little trouble I could break her little arm. Prunella: Oh, oh why would a fellow want a girl like her so obviously unusual why can't a fellow ever once prefer a usual girl like me Esmerelda: Her cheeks are a pretty shade of pink, but not any pinker than rose is Prunella: Her skin may be delicate and soft, but not any softer than a doe's is Esmerelda: Her neck is no whiter than a swan's Prunella: She's only as dainty as a daisy Esmerelda: She's only as graceful as a bird! Both: So why is the fellow going crazy? Oh why would a fellow want a girl like her, a girl who's merely lovely, why can't a fellow ever once prefer a girl who's merely me Prunella: She's a frothy little bubble with a frilly sort of air And with very little trouble I could pull out all her hair! Both: Oh why would a fellow want a girl like her, a girl who's merely lovely, why can't a fellow ever once prefer a girl who's merely me What's the matter with the man, what's the matter with the man, what's the matter with the man?!?!
I like this better in the original highest key. It sounds better. This is good but the lower key tasked away from the song. There is one sung by Audra McDonald and Mary Tests that is funny and in the higher key. Check it out
"Why can't a fellow every once prefer a girl who's merely me?"- my life story
Same
"Nice Girl" alert.
Sky Baby r/nicegirls
The best part is on of them is a dude
I’ll like you, but I’m also a girl
This song actually makes me root for the stepsisters...

Jäce of Hearts, the Prince of Bedlam What were the Grimm Brothers trying to say
fr tho
It's my favorite version
Yes!!
Basically sums up me and my friends in the corner at school dances.
ProjectAnimation lol same
Wow. That’s actually pretty relatable 😂
Moood
ProjectAnimation
kinda me too but i had my first school dance on thursday and i danced with the boy i liked
ProjectAnimation except you probably look more human then these two
I really like how one the sisters is a guy. And he does a great job
Considering how few roles there are for women in theatre (and especially in film) giving this role to a guy, no matter how talented he is, is irritating.
sopranosd What are you talking about? There are tons of great roles for women in theatre.
sopranosd Maybe not really old theatre like Shakespeare. But there is an equally large market for female actors in theatre, especially musical theatre, these days.
FreckleBeard
Actually, no.

Agreed! And the facial expressions are amazing, along with their positioning and emotion to boot
I have watched this an embarrassing number of times ...
same
Same. I think my choir teacher got me addicted.
Me to
You and me both and I'm not embarrassed at all!
Cuz it’s so GOOD!!!!

+Sean W I agree! A lot of female characters in musicals that are played by men were actually better.
Sean W tbh I'm glad he acted like a girl cuz that's the role xD the ugly stepsister who ain't girly but thinks she is, love this song cx

My school's putting on the same version of Cinderella, and one of our stepsisters is a guy, too. I hope it turns out this well!
Litzuvi I hope it went well.👍😊

Litzuvi, Same, except I’m one :)
how did it go?
This song was in my play! I wasn't singing it, but two guys were dressed up in wigs and dresses which was so HILARIOUS!
Seen four or five versions of this song. This one pretty good.
His "unusual" face at :29 is priceless. I laughed so hard. Great version!
Amen, legit looks cookoo
My school is doing a production of this, and this is hands-down my favorite song to watch during rehearsal :)
The tall one is having the time of their life
The guy is my new favourite!!!! And the girl is amazing as well :)))
Wish me luck- I’m auditioning for a part as one of them Sunday!
This is my fave version of this song EVER. I watch it at least three times a day
I got to go see this production! I wasn't a big fan of the male or female lead, but these two made it worth the trip. Nick Garrison especially.
My 3 year old daughter is obsessed with this and has me rewind it over and over!

I really like how the costume exaggerates each stepsister's shape.
I love this rendition, watched it about 30x already. Now to memorize it.... make it my own.
Beautiful voices and costumes!

Need to listen to this 24/7 for a play I'm in... Woo! Good thing I love this song!
They remind me of a teapot and a candlestick. A very amusing performance, love it
I am auditioning for a Cinderella play and I am doing stepsisters and I have watched this so many times it’s incredible
1:15 best choreography I've ever seen in my life
love them! such good voices, and their chemistry is amazing
Nick, you are even more gloriously hideous than we were in "Cabaret" -- BRAVO!
I think I'm in love with that guy. Seriously, that was awesome. xD
I wanna play one of these stepsisters so bad!
Guy stepsisters are always hilarious...but the choreo sucks for this.
Jon Hunwick Disagree about the choreography. I think it worked well - Cinderella was off screen stage left, and they played to that.
I also think the choreography here was excellent. They emphasized everything so well and we're right where they needed to be to make the movements look natural
Absolute perfection. :)
My friend and I are doing this as a duet for a thing in school and I am now extremely excited for this
wow that guy was phenomenal! so fun to watch them!
I'm so glad I found this! It is SO funny and they did such an awesome job.
Why can't I stop watching this video over and over
I can't get enough of this version. It's seriously the best
Omg the set and costumes are AMAZING!!!
this is a vibe and a mood
the way their voices split at the end
Doing this for my review show with my friend!! SO EXCITED
I love the facial expressions! My voice coach is making me sing this XD I love it.
I LOVE THIS!!! I LOVE THEM!!
This is possibly the best song I've ever heard!
What a duo! Thanks for uploading this!
I kind of assumed that this musical would be boring, because everyone already knows the story so well. Boy was I wrong. Rodgers and Hammerstein, you two have wowed me yet again.
I love his voice!!!!!!!!! And hers too!!
gotta love the derp face
Best version!!!👍

Love this song
I LOVE THEM!!!!!!! The skinny one is so pretty and cool-looking, I love the costume design!!!
The way both wicked stepsisters of Cinderella sang their lament at the prince's royal ball, it makes me realized that I felt sorry for them, a little much.
I love this song
If i ever see an audition to play one of these two, i’m going they’re my favorites

This is so funny actually.

My class is doing this play and it should be amazing!
My school is doing this musical and our stepmother is a guy and he is amazing
Great song
Hilarious! Great job!
These guys have talent. I cant even walk in low heels and they do that in high heels and tight dresses. Dude... Talent.
I feel this song
If you pause at 1:10 the guy looks like David tennant in drag
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤LOVE IT
I love how they say merely!

Very good for my audition
This what my school is singing for chior
Awesome!
HAHA! I have to do this for my Drama final... its so much fun, me and my friend are doing it together... majorly fun cat fights lol...

I clicked on the timestamp and laughed my ass off🤣🤣🤣
I broke my replay button lol
i played Joy in this once (but we added a third stepsister so the dance was crazy!)

RIP Nick ❤

how do i find the full version of this musical
i want it
bad
please
anyone
If you look up Rodgers & Hammerstein cinderella on TH-cam you'll find a version I'm pretty sure :)
thx
i spent forever trying to find it
which version is this one in
I love how they are singing a song that is supposed to insult her, but really it’s more complementary to her and insulting to themselves lol
Yup! Nick Gamson!
Prunella: Why should a fellow want a girl like her a frail and fluffy beauty why can't a fellow ever once prefer a solid girl like me
Esmerelda: She's a frothy little bubble with a flimsy kind of charm and with very little trouble I could break her little arm.
Prunella: Oh, oh why would a fellow want a girl like her so obviously unusual why can't a fellow ever once prefer a usual girl like me

Esmerelda: Her neck is no whiter than a swan's
Prunella: She's only as dainty as a daisy
Esmerelda: She's only as graceful as a bird!
Both: So why is the fellow going crazy?
Oh why would a fellow want a girl like her,
a girl who's merely lovely, why can't a fellow ever once prefer a girl who's merely me
Prunella: She's a frothy little bubble with a frilly sort of air And with very little trouble I could pull out all her hair!
Both: Oh why would a fellow want a girl like her, a girl who's merely lovely, why can't a fellow ever once prefer a girl who's merely me
What's the matter with the man, what's the matter with the man, what's the matter with the man?!?!
I can't seem to find an instrumental for this specific version. I want to perform this duet for my acting class.
I like this better in the original highest key. It sounds better. This is good but the lower key tasked away from the song. There is one sung by Audra McDonald and Mary Tests that is funny and in the higher key. Check it out
The video is titled "Audra McDonald & Mary Testa Stepsisters Lament"
Its hard for them to do the highest key, seeing that one of them is a man 😂
Why have I watch this approximately more than 60 times :/
RIP Nick Garrison :-(
It's also on New York's 5th Street
I pretty much watch this daily at this point.
