This is the best P&P variation I've ever heard! The characters are actually true to the original, and there isn't an obnoxious amount of regurgitated original dialog. Just the perfect amount of Jane Austen pulled from her other works as well as a few other classics. So enjoyable!
I read the original story in the late 50’s as a teen, and have enjoyed many PBS offerings and the films. I truly love the characters. Now, at 78, I am enjoying their new lives! I can wander around and listen to their new lives no matter what I’m doing. Thank you. Well done.
Thank you so much for your beautiful story and for providing it for our listening pleasure - AND read by Stevie, the most delightful narrator of all. It was my second time listening to it and I enjoyed it just as much as the first. 😊
Jennifer, this was absolutely fantastic. It was such a warm and emotional story. It was soooo very touching. I absolutely loved being able to see Elizabeth and Darcy be able to get to know each other through the many phases of grief that Elizabeth faces. The original character of Aunt Lavinia was so much fun and oh Darcy and books/libraries....my heart just melted
This is the first of Jennifer’s books I’ve had the privilege of listening to and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The writing was engaging and the narration was amazing. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. ❤
I loved it, such a sad beginning but anyone who has lost a dearly loved Father can wholeheartedly sympathise with Lizzie & Jane. As the months & years pass the pain lessens but the loss never diminishes. My Mum was much like Mrs Bennett she needed a man to depend on & moved on much more quickly than me, I don’t blame her but I found it very hard too understand. They are both gone now & I miss them everyday, they died on the same day & date but seventeen years apart, my Mum had vascular dementia & I always say my Dad came for her on that special date to reclaim her so they would always be together. I love all you adaptations, each one having a special twist. Many thanks xxxx❤❤
Thank you for your heartfelt comment, Lynda! This story was difficult to write, but at the time, I felt compelled to write it. My hope is that this book gave a little solace and dare I say it... joy☺
Oh Jennifer I think this might become one of my favourite variations of yours. Darcy pursuing courtship with Elizabeth having already known her father is heartwarming. You are very good at suspense. It was so hard waiting until the end to find out what had happened to Lizzie’s father. I did guess about the books, but was completely flummoxed as to how Darcy already seemed to be in love with Elizabeth. And it was so gorgeous having him be so clumsy around her.
Love this story. I can’t even pick a favorite! Wonder what Jane Austin would think about what you do? You make her fabulous work different, change the story and it can be sweet, sad or a great mystery. I love it bc I never get tired of Eliz and Darcy but the story is intriguing all over again bc it’s different. I spend a lot of time in bed bc of arthritis and having these audiobooks mean the world to me. Thank you. 7:37:03
I'm so happy you're enjoying them and that they offer a pleasant distraction when you need them! Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet are such relatable characters, it's entertaining to watch them handle a variety of situations! Just another testament to Jane Austen's genius 💖
Thank you, Jennifer. I love this tale. Guilt plays such an important role in preventing people from finding their joy. And, their guilt causes them to judge others unnecessarily. However, what I love about JAFF is all the happy endings. I know some readers want the bad to be punished, but I like you taking the higher road. I am happy for everyone that finds love in your story. My wish is that general romance readers will find you, find Austen through your stories, and jump into our beautiful JAFF and Austenite community.
I will definitely be re-listening to this. I feel certain I was able to listen to this years ago, but could not remember any of the details enough to be sure. This seemed to be familiar, but the way my memory works it was just a brand new Jennifer Joy story. Was this ever in Audible's Romance pkg.? Aunt Lavinia is rather unforgettable and she is who jogged my memory the most. I was so heartbroken for this Elizabeth. When she is at her strongest she doesn't like being the fifth wheel or like feeling she isn't contributing and helping. So here she was like a boat without a rudder, no wonder she took the chance to be with 'Aunt' Lavinia (what a character...you should bring her back!!) I felt so horrified for Lizzy when she came home and found her father's books being taken away. Tear-jearking!! The handkerchief was a wonderfully sweet theme throughout the story. Lovely. Like so many of your books, (maybe all?) there is so much to the story, great mix of humor and pathos. I just loved this one.
It was in Audible Romance for a while, so it's possible you listened to it there! I'm so happy you understood Aunt Lavinia's character and how important she was to Elizabeth♥ She's one of my favorites, and she just might make a guest appearance in another book 😉
Thank you for writing these!! I really enjoy variations of p&p ❤ I do wonder, I hope it's not rude to ask, how come oftentimes Elizabeth shortens his name to William? It takes me out of the story since it sounds modern to me, I'm sorry 😞 I did love the story and the way you used different circumstances to bring them together and still have them go through the character growth necessary for them to end up falling in love! Genius!! 👏👏👏❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your kind comment! I’m so happy you enjoyed the story. At the time that I wrote this book, I thought it seemed appropriate for Lizzy to shorten Darcy’s given name, and William was my favorite choice. (Fitz 😝) However you’re not the only reader to make this observation to me, so in my more recent novels, she calls him Fitzwilliam. My goal is to entertain, so anything I can do to add to my readers’ enjoyment is always worthy of consideration.
@jenniferjoyaudiobooks thanks for explaining ❤ I really enjoyed the story and I'm super grateful these are on TH-cam for us to listen to! I can't wait to listen to more
A nice Miss Bingley? That would be hard to write. I do like that she was matched with Col. Fitzwilliam in this book. And I love Mrs. Bennet finding happiness after her unaffectionate first marriage.
You might enjoy tomorrow's audiobook upload, "Forget Me Not, Elizabeth". It's not Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth, but it features Anne de Bourgh and her captain...
I can't believe that you wrote a story about the same characters but changed the circumstances of Elizabeth's family and her subsequent meeting of Mr. Darcy. It would've made more sense to develop stories of their family members instead of this.
If you’re looking for characters other than Darcy and Elizabeth to be featured, you might enjoy Anne’s Adversity, Colonel Fitzwilliam’s Challenge, The Immovable Mr. Tanner, and The Remarkable Miss Darcy more than my other Pride & Prejudice variations.
Jennifer, ANOTHER wonderful story. It kept me awake all night ! I love Lady Rutledge character. She’s funny, I want to be like her in my old age! Thank you JJ. I’ve listened to your stories and and other 5-6 or more times .❤️. Lee L

What does " chomping at the bit " mean? I have never heard this phrase. Thank you.😊
Lovely story!! Beautiful narration. 👍🏾

I've listened to a lot of pride and prejudice variations but this one is by a wide margin my favorite. We could all use an Aunt Lavinia I think.

Loved the twist you put on this one but now want to hear or read the other sisters story in this version with a side of Elizabeth and Darcy💕

Good idea!
Looking forward to listening to this book.

😂😂 good company!! Same words Anne Elliot said about good company! And Mr Elliot answered the same ...." best company"😅😅
Yes! You caught my nod to Persuasion.❤
Great story!!! ❤. Caroline was really vile in this one. She doesn't deserve Richard.
