How Good is £250 Amazon Paint?

  • Can you paint a car with £250? And can you make it ACTUALLY LOOK GOOD as a complete beginner? Well we’re going to give it a go - and we have one day to do it.
    So you want to change the colour of your car - what do you do? A full respray is £5000 or more, a wrap is $2000 if you pay someone to do it, and £500 if you do it yourself. But what if you only have half that budget?
    Well there is this - plastidip. It’s a spraywrap that you apply like paint - but you can peel off when you’re done with it. So we’ve bought a kit for £250 and we’re going to give it a go - as COMPLETE beginners.
    Will and I feel pretty that if we can wrap a car in a day, we can paint one too. Cameraman Owen isn’t so sure - so if we do it, he drives this HIDEOUS thing for the week. If not, one of us does. So it’s game on.

    Dip can be fixed rather easily. Just need to cut and remove the botched part (peel or a run) to get to the good portion, rub the edges with paint thinner to smooth the edge of the film, and respray with a bit of an overlap.
    Also, no need to mask all chrome parts. If there are no pores or weird cavities on the trim peices, it can be simply peeled after dip has dried. Just may need to pre cut some of the adjacent edges, but its' the same in case of the masking tape.
    Overall, this is a great and fun DIY with no commitment. The only thing you seed is space to do it.

    • @mrakhoover

    • @VasyaIvanovichPupkin
      @VasyaIvanovichPupkin ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mrakhoover True, but I would still mask the windows and the lights (or any other large area) as this would be a waste of product if you were to build it up to the peelable thickness.

    • @mrakhoover
      @mrakhoover ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@VasyaIvanovichPupkin That's quite correct. But it's best to leave a 2cm gap of exposed glass to aid a clean peel-off and achieve a sharply defined edge. These guys unfortunately extended their job enormously by masking. One is supposed to paint over everything and then peel-off what you want to expose after it has dried. This way one gets a sharp edge around door handles, chrome trim, badges etc.

    We do this stuff for a living you need a minimum of 8 coats for it to be peelable like a wrap 4 of your primer grey 4 of your colour. Your also ment to peel when the dip is wet. Did you also know also if you buy the high gloss top coat on the website It comes out just like OEM paint. It can even be wet sanded & polished ceramic coated treated like normal paint. The pro coatings are much better can last 6 years plus but the general Matt lasts around a minimum of 2 years when done right :)

    I dipped some car panels here and there 10 years ago just fine. The biggest task was my 1999 Eclipse done in Black Cherry 7 years ago and left it on since. Most of it is still strong but is naturally fading on the sides which gives it a neat "barn find" aesthetic. Color is over factory "Barcelona Red Pearl" so it's almost exact color, just no luster.

    i did my car like that too. at the beginng it looks okay, but after two years its falling apart. There are burnt in flys. Petrol does put big holes in the paint and you cant clean it. You need to put a clearcode over it

    Did you guys make sure you send it the primer thoroughly from 300 down to 800 grits for the best with no fogging. Like the color it's easier to peel off the tape while the paint is wet. You will pill up the pant. Learned that when I was young.

    I think you guys screwed up the masking, or laid on the plasti dip too thick in some areas. You should be able to peel it off places like the edges of decals and trim quite easily and it naturally follows the gap for the most part. The peel is supposed to be the satisfying part XD
