“The Cool”-ness of this song transcends time, it seems.
I Get The Metaphor! Certainly one of "The COOL"-est comments on here!
You guys are pretty Cool, The
references are neat.
One of "The cool"-est jams of its time
The music of the seventies is like the sea, it has millions of unexplored places... this blows my mind!!
totally! I find new underrated bands of the 70s every 2 months, on the marginal corners of internet
Dexter Wansel, Roy Ayer’s, Narada Michael Walden, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, The Laws Family, Lonnie Listen Smith, Herbie Hancock and so many others ……..It was a vibe ;you had to be there!
Grateful to my older brother who left behind _Life on Mars_ when he left home, and the Narada Michael Walden _Dance of Life_ - two albums I love and enjoy as much today as I did aged 11. Superb. Timeless.
PS I did return them and bought my own copies. 😊
all these guys were performing on this song ?
@@barroningram7286 no...
I was!
😂I PRAISE GOD FOR RECORDINGS, THOUGH!
youngerE!!!!!!!!!!
Such a vibe never knew 70’s has these unlockable levels don’t even know where I shazamed this tune from but I’m going to find so many more of these
Impossible drum pattern by Funk master Darryl Brown! Beautiful high-hat accents and ridiculous kick drum 👌👌👌
Well said. Rarely do people give props for drum programming.
I’m afraid it was a real, living organic drummer ! @@ronsmith9735
@@ronsmith9735 Is that drum programming on live drumming..?
Just to inform, that's not Darryl Brown on drums , it is Scotty Miller of the INSTANT FUNK band who is playing this track..but , thanks for the compliment..
Something "Cool" about this track... 😉
Sounded just as cool live at the Jazz cafe earlier this year.
Who played it Live, a band? Or Dj
That intro with the Rhodes is just cold!
Accordingly with Mr Wansel himself, it’s a ARP 2000 in the intro
What is rhodes
Too cold!! Otherworldly!🌌
@@ValFolarin Its a type of electric piano made by Fender. It has a very distinct and beautiful tone.
@@HoolaaBaaloo I hear both a Rhodes and a synth in the intro.
There are a couple bass players on this album--Derrick Graves and Raymond Earl--but whoever played on this track gave that bass a serious workout.
A hauntingly melodic space aged funk, one of the brightest moments in Phillys great history, this 1976 set is a masterpiece, with some serious keyboard orientated Funk, thanks to maestro Dexter Wansel, Phillys own producer and keyboard maestro
Keep up the good work !
Wit All 🔥 The Exploring 🎶Goin On. Here is 1 2 Take wit Them 💰
Oooooh that's why. Philadelphia.😊
Dexter Wansel, we love you brother!!!!
45 years later Dexter and you were right.
Many after all these years, finally got Dexter’s music and message.
Yeeeeeeeesssss!!!!!!!!
Memories of WDAS in West Philly … 1970s!!!!!!!
This was the JAM that introduced me to Dexter Wansel I played this song till the grroves wore off of the LP!!! I couldn't get enough of this song. Timeless!!!!! Thank you Mr. Wansel
one of my ALL-TIME favourite funk pieces. Thank you, Dexter :))))
Dexter Wansel ........ takes smooth jazz to a whole different stratosphere!
This was before smooth jazz term was coined. And I consider it funk jazz, moreso than smooth jazz...which has to many Kenny G implications.
I am in my late sixties oh my God this sounds so good now, all these years later!!! Dexter should gotten much more airtime than he did...Thank for the music that stands the test of time...
Alethab
Such a groovy track!
I hope generations after us boomers will have great music like you gave us mr. Wansel
Dexter Wansel music would have been great during the sci-fi movie era,This would have been the perfect theme song for Star Wars!!
This past month I went to Philadelphia and the moments I stepped foot in the city, this song immediately came to my mind
Beautiful memories of back in the day! Glad I was blessed to experience it. Music.
Being 61, this was out during my junior year of high school! And I was booty bouncing with my quadraphonic speakers! I can STILL hear my mother saying TURN THAT DAMN RECORD PLAYER DOWN!!!💯🔥🔥🔥🤣🤣🤣🤣💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Babal baba bum
This should of been the theme tune to the actual tv programme
Just ordered the colored vinyl can't wait to go to Mars 🛸🛸🛸🛸🛸🛸
One of the greatest pieces of music of all time if not, THE greatest piece of music.
Leaves David Bowie in the intergalactic dust.
If anyone wants to know what the crossover from Jazz Funk to Jazz Fusion is, it's THIS!!!!!!! Nuff respect Dexter!!!!!!!!!
This cut would of been a great "theme song" intro for a popular TV drama series.
This Took Me To Mars, Straight FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Melodic the arrangement is unforgettable. Dexter Wansel is one of the hidden gems of the Sound of Philadelphia. Is he still part of the music scene?
Makes me want to go and get a massive land yacht like a 70s Cadilac Eldorado. Drive around listing to this. Amazing!
This song is sooooo space age and is still lite years ahead of its time.
Ridiculous 👏🏾🔥👏🏾🔥 ……….. eargasm!
Straight Philly Fonk!
Playing this Philly Gem on the Roxy NYC dance floor was pure bliss.
And I saw Patti in concert last Saturday night. I need a cheesesteak now!
It's 2022 and I still work out at the gym to Life On Mars, Love it!!!
Yeah, I'm a fan and have been for decades. This was a masterpiece lauded by DJs.
Just today discovered this dude, after watching a PDBass video. This is very cool.
Give the Drummer Some!! Ths person is awesome!
This one & Voyager, are my 2 fav Dexter songs. Space is the place for jazz/funk now !
HEAT🔥🔥🔥
This should be playing on some outward bound space vessel to let them know out there that humanity can be cool.
Never got to hear my guitar teacher play live, but I got to hear him play on this classic! Calvin Harris I'll love you forever! Thank You for getting me off to a great start in my career! I still play some of what you taught me!!!
God bless you, Dexter and 'The Sound of Philadelphia', the City of Brotherly Love, our shared birthdays in August with Flyers' Bobby Clarke and those Stanley Cup teams of '74 and '75! 'Ta-da!' T. Hamilton, Uniondale, NY 😊
Funkiest jam that instant funk ever done !!!💣👀
Oh yeah and Dexter said in another yt video, that the bass player in this song was the guy who played in the group instant funk.
an All-time Jazz Classic by the Master Wizard 🎹ist. This is 🎶 😊 🎼🎵. ✌️👌
1 of My Favorite Pieces from The Legendary Mr.Dexter Wansel.Classic Funky Discotheque Music right here! ✅️ 😎👍🏾
This was my jam, i was playing trumpet in a local band and we used to rock this piece with a PASSION!😅
I’m mad I’m JUST realizing, the first 15 seconds were sampled for Lupe Fiascos “The Cool” track! All these years…mind blown 🤯
I love this song, absolutely beautiful space funk, I always find myself top rocking top this masterpiece, it should of been used for a movie soundtrack.
Speaking of Top Rocking, I'm still celebrating Hip Hop's 50th birthday
So proud to know Mr Wansel is a fellow Leo!! 🦁 ♌ when I first heard this as a teen it blew me away! My Mother told me how she & friends partied hard & danced to this. The intro is EPIC 🔥 when I imagine traveling to space this would be what I'd hear in my head witnessing the heavenly galaxies & planets! Then that Philly funk rolls in! Masterpiece ❤❤
DAMMMM
Que som excelente, as pistas de dança ferviam com um som assim.
That drum set got ate alive👍🏿
Earth people sampled this. Great tune
Best to hear the whole song than to sample. Earthlings !
About damn time. I have a pristine promo vinyl copy of this, and have been threatening to digitize and de-noise this forever.
THANK YOU, Dexter!!
I love hearing this joint so much that it gets even better when B Boys & B Girls Uprock against each other to it
❤❤❤❤❤❤
the bass and drums are locked 🔒 tf in
Demonstrably funky. But that fade out. is criminal.
Mr. Wansel himself said there was an extended version of this song, patiently waiting for sure!
I would LOVE to hear one of my Philly DJ friends include this (or a remix) in one of their sets today!
Perfect
Brilliant Tunage love it
❤
A voyage into HAl. We are only figurines guided by a totalitarian outfit

A masterful blend from back in the day.
Classic , memories of Margate 76
Just came from Nights Over Egypt. Keeps on getting better!
Still on the playlist in the car
Much Appreciation.
I just love this! The best tune I've found this year!
Same!
"This Life Goes Passing You By"
Never were truer words spoken!
❤❤❤❤❤
One of my favorites from the past! A very magical experience.
Oh My what a surprise! Haven’t heard this JAM in 20+ years! I was playing songs on my iPad and something like 20 straight Philly songs played, including The Sweetest Pain. So I had look up Dexter Wansel. This album came up in my search! Memory lane….WDAS, Dr. Perry Johnson and all the other outstanding DJs!
the cosmic synths take philly into outer space.
Wow ! very groovy.
INCREDIBLE

Davis' "So What" re-mastered... nice
The drums on this tune by Daryll Brown heavily inspire my playing
Hi M. Wansel, I wanted to tell that since I discovered this album, I listen to it very often and it has become one of my favorites in the jazz-rock genre. In general, I really like all your discography. Thank you for composing this awesome music.
Jazz-rock? Hahaha
😂 Jazz Funk. Who 'rock' 😂
@@ronimausanti9625 In my humble opinion, jazzrock and fusion music are perhaps two of the most contaminated genres. Of course if we make the comparison with Herbie Hancock, the Headhunters, Soft Machine, Weather Report, Chick Corea's Return to Forever, Stanley Clarke as a soloist, and yes: I want to hazard also Colosseum... and so on, we are on a another planet: it's all jazzrock but they are all very different from each other. Herbie Hancock himself makes strong use of funky elements such as bass or guitar rather than drums but his style is certainly and definitely a purebred jazzrock. In my opinion this album has strong jazzrock connotations, as well as many funky aspects. For example, the chorus of this song is very reminiscent of "So what" by Miles Davis, e.p. solo is definitely in jazz style.. so...
@@audio7033 I can't hear a single rock influence in this soundtrack. This is 100% jazz funk. Can you produce some examples?
@@ronimausanti9625 yes I agree: this track is more jazz funk, but for example in "A Prophet Named K.G. " the rithm, the bassline and the incisive arrangement of the track or drums in "Stargazer" makes me think more of a jazzrock. The line between jazzrock and jazz funk is very thin, maybe jazz funk has a more light sound...since jazzrock makes more use of rock intruments like electric piano and more keyboards, but they can be points of view. Generally it is sufficient to merge electric instruments like EP and/or synthesizers in a jazz style to obtain jazzrock. That said, 1000 exceptions can be found since it's hard to give a precise delimitation. P.S. for me an example of jazz funk is "Pick up the pieces"...
senpre dexter w,,,,,,,,,,

This song takes me back when I was 15 years old. My first experience with jazz
