Jim, thanks for this additional vedeo.
I am currently working on a research paper on CESBs, my intention is to spread those initiatives at least in Haiti.
Do you have any reference material for vault design? I am not aware on the criterias to decide the width and the span of a roof vault.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Go to Mexico they do it without the shim. All by hand and brick. Very awesome artist with brick.

Straight Portland cement and sand mortar is way too hard of a mortar- especially for softer rammed earth block. Hydrated lime- sand mortar is a much more compatible mortar.

I would suggest making a 2 degree slope on the CEB when making it, and have an interlocking design, and to have a full 180 degree arc to eliminate the horizontal stress on the wall-roof joint. Then no mortar would be needed between the bricks, just water, and mortar on the outside plus a rain shield

This would be a cement based mortar in the application

Thanks Jim for the giving a clear demonstration on the barrel vault roofing technique using compressed earth blocks. I liked the choice of yours, for picking an eco friendly material for the building. God bless u for being a good teacher.

Jim your a great teacher and my wife and I will be seeking out to move to the dallas area in just about 6 months we are interested in doing a garage apartment build until we can lease the block making equipment there we would like to manufacture on site all pavers paving stones and earthen stabilized blocks on site ....we could buy and resale equipment but leasing may offer the best option? is this something you would consider?
