Razorback fan here: Thoroughly enjoyed Chip Brown’s commentary/insight on the history of Texas vs Arkansas. The Longhorns are the #1 rival in the history of Razorback football! To the credit and history of the University of Texas football program, the Longhorns are just about every opponent’s “Super Bowl”. The ‘Horns usually get every teams best shot. Hoping for a Hog win, but the realist in me is thinking Texas will just be too much for Arkansas. Safe travels to all the Texas fans traveling to and from The Hill!!
I considered Darrel Royal the greatest and I use one of his quotes when people say you were lucky, “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity “ ! I was at a Longhorn Baseball game and Royal older and retired was standing and talking to a bunch of people so I went over and stood close for few minutes! He was such a great man.
I was 7yrs old in 1969 watching the Longhorns win over the Hogs we were all yelling and laughing when they won because it was a hard fought come from behind game. Later that night dad took us down to the drag and students were all out in the streets writing on all the car windows with shoe polish. At the 1976 game in Austin where both coaches retired, I was at the game selling cokes in the stands, some fans may remember whistling Ray would sell whistles wearing a top hat with a water faucet sticking out of it. I met Darrell Royal.
No one can do justice in describing intensity of the Arkansas-Texas years in the 1960s. But it was a big game even before and after that while Arkansas was an SWC team. One thing that really helped Arkansas is it was usually scheduled the week after the OU game in the Cotton Bowl. Arkansas was able to ambush some really good Texas teams that couldn't get recharged after coming down from the OU game.
The OU vs. Texas seems more like a party with the Texas State Fair taking place when they have the Red River Rivalry game. Arkansas vs. Texas is more like a knife fight. The bitterness Arkansas fans have against UT is real and it will show up today.
Maybe there’s a good book out there that chronicles texas football history, but haven’t heard of it. But chip, Jeff ward, Bobbie Burton, Jeff Howe should get together and make a TH-cam video series or book chronicling texas football from the 60s to 1990s.
The 1962 game. I was 9 years old, watching from a seat on the west side at about the south 35 yard line. Texas gets the ball at their own (north) 15 yard line with about 8 minutes left in the game, trailing 0-3. They methodically march down the field, four-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust style, and score a touchdown with just 40 seconds left on the clock to win 7-3. The whole place went berserk.
Other funny things were that although Royal hated Switzer... Switzer's AD, Wade Walker, was also one of Royal's life long friends. And finally, Mack Brown had coached at Oklahoma before he ended up at Texas... and Mack Brown actually had Barry Switzer speak to the Texas team before a Holiday Bowl game one year. Finally, Jerry Jones made all his oil money while living in OKC. Those three schools are pretty entangled.
They hate us because we beat them a whole lot, and we’re a better university. That’s all they’ve got. And they need to just chill and redirect that hate somewhere else.
Your comments are pretty typical of the reason everybody who hates Texas hates them. Everybody tires of hearing how great you think you are every time you open your mouth.

Another kick for Arkansas is that Freddie Akers and Switzer both had Arkansas ties...

@@marjorieanderson8626 So true. It’s always about how UT doesn’t think it’s 💩 doesn’t stink.
frank broyles and DKR were very good friends
Very close.
I was born here in Arkansas. I’ve never met an Arkansas fan that hates Texas. Arkansas has beaten Texas 86 times since they started playing
