Great video, a testament to cover crops and soil management. A few ideas for you. To deter the bird species from eating seed after planting you could do like the airports and train your dogs to chase the birds out of the field. Eliot Coleman uses flame for weeds also but in order to maximize the propane use he came up with a push roller that puts a smaller flame close to the ground and figured out how fast to move in order to not just kill the weed but also the seed and root. Have you also considered using ducks to help control the snails? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

If you plant gandules (pigeon peas) which are delicious and full of good nutrients, the leaves put nitrogen into the soil; and no, they are not pigeon feed! Gandules are actually a favorite food in Puerto Rico and once planted, they yield for years! I love your gardens, especially the taro fields, and the soil looks so beautiful and rich! Watching the chickens, one of my favorite all time birds, was a real thrill! Please be good to the Nene geese and offer them your protection, as they nearly went extinct if it was not for an organization from England that was able to step in and take some to Britain, where they were able to breed them in order to save the species and reintroduce them back to Hawai'i! However, sadly, the giant Hawaiian nene did go extinct, due to careless human activity! Take good care of the Nene, as well as yourselves and the aina ( land ) Hawai'ina! With all due respect to lasker 31, I would not recommend using fire to control the weeds because you might harm the insects, even the beneficial ones, and we must respect their right to live in peace and harmony in the honua ( world ) with us! I did not know that ducks control snails, thanks for the advice, lasker 31, that's good to know!; I'm just wondering if the Nene and chickens do too, since the free wondering chickens eat just about anything that moves, crawls and flies ( no pun intended )! That unko just taught me something if smell like gas not ready but if smell earthy den ready to plant
very insiteful method of how to rotate ... ie let it idle .. but in the field you plant the grow over cutting it is like having a big compost heap... what you can do is to enclose it and put chickens in it , their droppngs will enhance the field ,,, i have seen this in Japan where they allow ducks in the rice field ... its the same concept....

Do you guys know about the GMO Taro? It is spliced with the Potato gene and taste terrible. Some of this stuff is on Oahu, Kahuku side. It was spliced by a retired Army Colonial who was doing gene splicing experiments with Taro. I don’t know if the, Oahu, Taro has been ruined by this experimentation. This gene splicing took place in the early, 1990’s. I wonder if it cross contaminated with the Non-GMO Taro? Just like what happened to Cotton and Soybeans. Please continue to grow natural just like a, “Holy God,” made it to be. Enjoyed your video.
Get some ducks to handle the snail problem, free eggs and fertilizer too.
Ducklings are expensive in Hawaii, and there are regulations of having them non penned because of interbreeding with kola duck and disease. Plus plenty of dogs that would bother them without a good fence, the idea's great though!

Burnt wood is criasode...which is the best nitrogen ...or greening...natural is the only way and organic soaps 💯🤙

So the rational is using grass as a natural fertilizer prepping the soil for farming?
How are the chem fertilizer numbers translated into organic....???? Is there a quick reference???
