Growing up as a proud Canadian in the 70's I was BLESSED to have been exposed to (2) of the most (IMHO) Iconic Rock songs of all time. This is one of them. A good old song about just letting the player just rock out. A tribute to rock itself. And Fly at Night by Chilliwack. Why both of these songs aren't more famous than they are will always be a mystery to me...

I wish I had a vid like this to watch in 1980 when I was a 12yr old kid sitting in my bedroom listening to that guitar riff over and over and over and over and over and over and over… (well, u get the point) trying to learn it. Well, here we are 42 yrs later, and I can do a “passible” rendition, but I’ll never get it so buttery smooth as Jerry does. Damn, he makes it look so easy! Rest well Jerry, and thanks for rockin’ our socks off! RIP :(

I dated his step daughter Shirley in High school at the pinnacle of his stardom and was in awe of him when I went to her house. A true Canadian rock Icon who used one of his Juno awards to prop open the dog/kiddy gate that led to the basement. Good memories.

When I heard this song, I put down the trumpet, picked up a bass and joined a rock band. This jam still raises goosebumps 40 years later... This tune is simply badass and Jerry’s Ode to the Art. Way cool you got to see him then. I bet his daughter was unimpressed as only a high school girl can be! LOL!

Ahhh brings back memories of that night at the Ex, before 25,000 opening for Triumph, the Deuce gets his Platinum Record, then rips off a 12 minute version of "Mama", and tears the heart out of Triumph's fans, with a 5 minute standing ovation, waiting for an encore Triumph wouldn't give him. First time that I know of that Triumph's own fans boo'ed the hell out of Triumph for their huge mistake. But hey when the opening band is better then the headliners, they panic like that.

Even though I'm from the States, I've heard of Jerry Doucette during my many trips to The Great White North! Jerry has at least a couple great songs I've heard of, "Nobody" & "Mama Let Him Play". CanCon music is just awesome! Better than the stuff I'm accustomed to hearing in the States! Another CanCon favorite is "Put The Bone In" by Terry Jacks.
    Bravo, Jerry!

It's such a shame that Canadian bands don't get their due.
I can name 25 or more and even great many stars in the U.S. come from Canada and even from my small home town of Cornwall, ON.
The drummer for April Wine lives a few blocks from me as an example.
Kim Mitchell is an another fine example of someone not afraid of just showing up and playing in dive bars.
We have a rich community of talent but the radio stations are rich in the purse getting drawn by the nose and directed.

Was very very hard to be an international star back in the day. I know :( Doucette was not that big. April Wine - not so big. Goddo? Nope. Even Tragically Hip are a niche band. Huge fan bases, but not on the levels of Bieber, Adams, or Dion.
