  • A new kind of video for me today :) I strapped my new GoPro Hero10 on my new bicycle and cruised through the city to the beach in Malaga, Spain (Playa Malagueta, Playa Caleta, and Playa Los Baños del Carmen). I narrated the trip to give you info about the city, the bike lanes, and the beaches, and I even include some little updates on what's been going on in my life. Come along with me! This is a long one so if you watch all the way to the end, thank you so much! Leave a comment and let me know if you've enjoyed this style of video.

      We live in Kitchener (Canada) and I have cycled the Spanish interior just north of there in the Alicante/Valencia region. You'll love the interior cycling, drivers are respectful and there are many secondary road routes with little traffic. Try an over night trip with a couple bags of essentials, the won to town distances are not long and each town has something unique to offer. Cheers.

    • @melissamorse8454
      @melissamorse8454  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it’s certainly nice not to deal with Canadian winters. But…be warned…it gets colder here than you’d think in the winter. Housing is not built for cold and many places aren’t heated. I actually felt colder here than I do in a Canadian winter. But it’s still much better than shoveling and driving in snow! And waaay more sun!

      Can you please tell me if is it hard to find jobs there? Some people say that Malaga is more for leisure time not for job opportunities. I work now as chocolatier (I run my own business, but unfortunately Romania is not the best place for organic and vegan chocolate) and my wife works as account payable clerk right now for an English company. Thank you:)

      @@melissamorse8454 Yes, in Canada it was really nice inside of the houses in the winter time, excepting an apartment from NB:) But to drive in Alberta was very scary for me in the winter time, it was my first time when I was stuck in snow with my car:)

      Malaga has a fast growing tech sector so English speakers with relevant tech or business skills may find opportunities here. Outside of that I’ve heard it’s pretty difficult. Unemployment is high and so many people are moving here trying to find work. Most jobs in Malaga city would require Spanish, except for some of the earlier mentioned international tech firms. I haven’t job searched here so I don’t know personally. Opening a chocolate business here could be an option but of course you’d need to do some market research. There is a chocolate business in Mijas Pueblo (about 45 mins away) called Mayan Monkey that does pretty well targeting tourists. Malaga doesn’t have anything similar that I’m aware of.

    Hi, Melissa! I loved this video. My wife and I plan to move to Málaga at some point (one of us more reluctantly than the other, AND we plan to make videos about it!), and I love watching videos about the city. I've spent a good amount of time in the city over the years, but I've never biked there, as my friends who live there aren't big bikers, so it was great to see what's available as far as bike paths.
    What's bike-storage safety like? Would you feel comfortable leaving your bike locked up out of sight for an extended period or no? Haha, and as I was writing this, I got to the portion of the video where you talked about taking your seat with you. Keep us updated on any bike drama! Cheers!

    • @melissamorse8454

      Thanks for watching! I haven’t really tested the bike crime risk as I haven’t left my bike unattended much at all. I’ve been warned to be careful so I’m paranoid. Lol
      I need to take a chance though because it would be convenient for shopping. I think if you have a good lock and leave it in an area with foot traffic it would be fine. The biggest problem is to find somewhere to lock it up. Not many bike racks.

    Thank you very much for the lovely, informative tour 😊 I was in Malaga last week, for only 3 full days, so I didn't get as far as you did on your bike 😎 Also, I didn't figure out the bicycle/pedestrian system at all, so I may have been a pain in the butt without knowing. But I do now, thanks to you 😊 Obviously, there are so many things and places to explore there, so I would really appreciate if you could make more of these tours. Kindest regards from Erik, Denmark

    Oh, fun fact about infomedusa - I tried getting it on my phone because when I was there in August, we used it DAILY before heading to the beach. We'll be there in June 2023 for my sister's wedding and also a family trip, so we wanted to prep by having the app or at least mentioning it to wedding guests, but it wasn't available to us. I don't know if this is because we tried adding it from the States or if it's because we don't have Spanish phone plans. I guess when we try in June, we can let you know!

    • @melissamorse8454
      @melissamorse8454  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m pretty sure Infomedusa was available in the Canadian Apple App Store, but I can’t remember for sure. I might have switched to the Spain App Store. It shouldn’t matter what your provider is, more so which country’s App Store you’re using.

    I watched the whole video 😊 and really enjoyed it. Not only to see the area, and to feel even more excited about the idea of moving here. But to get a better idea of distance. What ti me on a map looks pretty far, I could now see is actually really close. Side note, I live in California and am totally guilty of having walked the bike paths on the beach and will now make a note to stop doing that 😁

    • @melissamorse8454

      Yes, motor scooters (Vespa, mopeds, etc) require an A level license according to the CC’s. I think there are courses just for that. To drive a car is a B level license. I’m thinking about going for my car license in the Fall. Would be nice to be able to drive once in a while to explore. Such a bummer to do driving school all over again. Glad you enjoyed!

    • @tobyo99
      @tobyo99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@melissamorse8454 thanks for the info! Can you tell me what CC is as I'm not sure? Here is something I jotted down whilst doing research if it helps you: "ask your driving school about getting credit for your previous experience in the states. You need to get a certified copy of your driving record, of course with a wet signature and apostle. Otherwise you’re considered a learner and need to have a big red L in your window. Most rental companies won’t rent to learners." I found this in a FB group for expats.

    • @melissamorse8454
      @melissamorse8454  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CC is the power a motorcycle has. It typically relates to engine size. Thanks for the tip on the drivers record. I had forgotten about that, but I’ll look into getting one when I’m back in Canada this summer.
