The two cabins you visited were built in 1976. There is a third cabin, built around 1990, down that steep road that you didn't follow all the way to the end. That old Scout you saw had an issue driving back up the hill from the mine, where the road was so steep, it couldn't pull fuel from the tank unless the fuel was above a certain level. So, they installed a second fuel tank and had one they used for downhill and one for coming back up.
When that happened to me (low fuel), I just had to get out of the old Buick & toss rocks and climb those hills in reverse gear. With a 400+CuIn engine, the old Dynaflow would just keep building hydraulic pressure until something moved. Ma-a-a-an, I love that old country!
I’m amazed that nobody has made that Rambler disappear in the night,in all the years that it’s obviously been left there. Really glad you managed to complete the trip that you couldn’t last time you were there,
Regarding the arrowhead: Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photographs. Big part of the reasons I sub and follow you. Thanks for another great mini-series.
That's really a personal choice. I agree you shouldn't harvest a 1/4 ton of rock, but many, many people disagree that it is unethical to take an arrowhead. Especially on public lands for which mining claims are part of the deal. The truck and cabins are a good example of why this rule doesn't always make sense. I think they add to the visit, to the story and to the history. And, if you do, in fact want to harvest a ton of rock you can stake a claim.
Awesome as usual! Great music choices too. Your choice of music as you explored the little mining cabin was absolutely perfect! Love your channel Donald. We appreciate all the hours of work you do to bring these videos to us, we really enjoy them!
Once again, I feel compelled, or challenged, to find this route. I'll be out there on my small adventure bike this summer. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
I rarely comment on your videos because I watch them on my TV and I don’t know how to comment on there. But I felt the need to tell you that you make my most enjoyable overlanding content that I watch. It’s more than the places you go. It’s your overall approach to overlanding that I find to be the most enjoyable. You have a rig that is attainable and not overly built up with expensive gear. You also have great photography skills as well as a welcoming humble approach. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make these trip videos as well as your how to videos. Wishing you the best in your future adventures.
Took me a while to figure out why I like this guy best out of all the outdoor/ off road type content . I get the vibe from a lot of TH-camrs that they're smirking or showing off..like look at me and you can't do this ...hard to describe . I never have gotten that from him . His aura and delivery are truly genuine in my opinion, like he's sharing experiences from the perspective of a peer or someone on the same level...no delusions of grandeur haha. Keep it up! Nothing but respect and admiration.
Won't lie, Donald. Really enjoyed the reality of the route issues you guys had. We definitely want to go back here and attempt it for a 3rd time. We know it is unbelievably beautiful. Jason said he volunteers you as our tour guide haha!
I can't believe someone / or many, defiled a scout 800 like that and riddled it with bullet holes! Love the scenery and the trip, thanks Donald and Jason for going there.
Thank you for all you put into making this series! I found it more than just entertaining, it was beautiful, inspirational and maybe even transformational.
What a great series! I've really enjoyed your videos and Jason's videos on this trip. I hope to get out that way some day and see those sights through my own eyes. Thank you!
We were in Leslie Gulch the next morning. If you had decided to go and camp in Leslie Gulch we probably would have bumped into each other. You missed out, because the lake is low, which does not happen often. There is a road that is exposed once the water is low. You can head south (the way we went) to a hot spring. Would have made a great place to camp. The rock in the back ground at 16:10 is called Three Fingers. It was used for navigation in the area back in the old days. You can see that rock all around for miles. I can see from near where I live if I can see the horizon off that way. Oddly, I missed a fellow I communicated with often on a forum the last time I was at Leslie Gulch a few years back. Didn't realize it till a year or so later. We drove right past them at the campground on the way into the hot spring. This was a fun one. Thanks for sharing, George.
I grew up in a time and place where you saw more scouts than Jeeps. I wish international would jump on the bandwagon and reintroduced the scout as competitor for the Wrangler and bronco.
This was a fun series to watch and definitely inspires me to explore some of the areas you traveled through. I appreciate all the resources it takes to craft these videos. Thank you for sharing.
Seriously what an epic trip and series of videos. I continue to be inspired by your videos Donald! I'm always trying to watch and enjoy but also take notes from a wannabe creators standpoint lol. Stellar work all around and as usual you make me want to visit Oregon sooo bad. 🍻💯
What a amazing adventure! Thank you so much for bringing us all along on the trip. We really appreciate the effort you put into filming and editing these adventures for our benefit.
Oh man. I've been up at that spot, and looking down I thought someone else was there so I moved along. Guess we'll have to head back, especially since my daughter has a 69 Scout undergoing a long term resto.
Those were my exact words when we drove down there! Well, okay, I didn't call them "rock cabins" exactly. And I've literally never used the word "baller" in my life. But other than that, yeah! :-)
What a great trip. You and Jason are a good team. I love how your Nissan has improved where you go and what your doing. Your videos are just as good as the old days with the Subaru maybe even better. As you can go anywhere Jason can!
Oka, you've sold me. I'm about to call Journeys OffRoad and order full 4WD & a lift kits for my old Astro. Or I might just stop to wait for jets and helicopters to be invented.
What a beautiful, if windy, area. I remember when you decided to turn around in your Subaru. I'd say it paid off to come back in the truck! I'd love to drive my Jeep there some day, I love roads like that.
Heh, at the time I really hoped just to get back here with someone driving a 4x4 equipped with a winch. Never occurred to me that I might be driving a 4x4 next time around. :-)

I'm curious if reversing up the hill would be a solution, like how it was for the original Model T.
When that happened to me (low fuel), I just had to get out of the old Buick & toss rocks and climb those hills in reverse gear. With a 400+CuIn engine, the old Dynaflow would just keep building hydraulic pressure until something moved. Ma-a-a-an, I love that old country!

Your Covered Wagon, is pretty cushy, compared to the Pioneers, but, the views of the grassland are as epic now as they were 150 yrs ago!
Awesome as usual! Great music choices too. Your choice of music as you explored the little mining cabin was absolutely perfect! Love your channel Donald. We appreciate all the hours of work you do to bring these videos to us, we really enjoy them!
I'm gonna have to go there this spring before the rest of your fans crowd in there!

I think there may have been a Bigfoot running in frame 10:45 😂😂😂
At 10:43 Squatch spotted running to the right .
LOL :-)

I can't believe someone / or many, defiled a scout 800 like that and riddled it with bullet holes! Love the scenery and the trip, thanks Donald and Jason for going there.
I'm pretty sure that's a 1971 IHC Scout 800
"I just heated up a can of chili. The wind is relentless out there." Soon the wind will be relentless inside as well.
Heyoooooooooooooooooooo

How is that two people can make different videos about the same trip and their both completely worthwhile to watch. Keep up the work legends!
Agreed

I gotta think the Frontier makes an audible sigh when you take it to the car wash.

I watch every single video every night when the time excellent Video 🙏🏻
The west needs a lot more rain, the reservoirs are all low out there. Beautiful area.
I grew up in a time and place where you saw more scouts than Jeeps. I wish international would jump on the bandwagon and reintroduced the scout as competitor for the Wrangler and bronco.

Wow what an incredible area! Great video Donald!
Donald reminds me of Ben, the DIY host on NightHawkInLight.
Stunning pictures! They look as if you had a whole crew out there, the unique (at least to me) landscape helps of course ;)
Donald, thanks for the great video. The scenery was beautiful on this one. Great series of videos .
Awesome episode. Can’t wait for the next one
I need to go back to the Owyhee mountains. Haven't been since I was a kid
What a beautiful, if windy, area. I remember when you decided to turn around in your Subaru. I'd say it paid off to come back in the truck! I'd love to drive my Jeep there some day, I love roads like that.
