Thanks for the info on deadheading the moss rose and petunias! I have been doing the moss rose wrong. My grandma used to grow them, but she didn't really tell me anything about caring for them. I have always enjoyed them because they remind me of her.
My mom has been declining the last year a lot--my dad passed away 2 years ago. She really enjoys her flower beds around her back patio--it is becoming one of the few things she enjoys anymore. I started planting it in flowers the spring Daddy became ill. I had just gotten into planting flowers from seed that year and grew a bunch for her. I am so thankful I did. It was a nice retreat area for us to sit on the patio and enjoy the flowers when caregiving and watching him struggle got too hard. I continued to plant her beds after that season. I have no idea where her day lilies came from, but she has had them forever. I want to branch out and plant some new varieties for her. I appreciate your sharing your Mom's memorial garden.
My chickens love corn, but I haven't been giving because I have heard all the things people say about it making them hot. I will add it back into their snack routine. They love it--especially fresh. I find my one hen who has the most trouble with the heat seems to eat less on these hot days. They all seem to be eating less because there is less poo to spot clean in the mornings. Today was the hottest day here too. Thunderstorms coming in tomorrow afternoon with cooler temps. Thank God!
Maybe I will finally get a cucumber with the rain and cool down! That is so funny about your giant cucumber! My plants do finally have some small cucumbers on them. I just planted too late and the heat is making everything struggle a little. I will make sure the plants don't have any monster cucmbers on the bottom!
Laddie is so funny. He wants your full attention! My roo boy is the same!
    Take care, friend!

@@medtronicmom every year I get urges to plant something new or not on my habitual rotation but I always have moss roses. My grandmother (maternal) always had them also, growing in all sirts of eclectic things, crack old teapots, 1/2 size coffee cans from before the 50,s, even old tea cups. Even an old leather boot. As a kid it was just common but I always loved how they added to the charm and whimsy. I think the love of them was passed down. Tough and hardy beauties like her girls as she called all her female descendants. She passed when I was 14. Sometimes I group them in colors but my favorite is just a jumble of all colors. I wish they were perennial. I have had a few pop up in odd places as if it couldn’t help itself. It’s great you have the flowers planted and it a solace you share with your mom. I find my flowers a solace and a steadfast connection to my mom. I miss Oklahoma. I want to resettle in the mountains of the S.E. Nestled close to the Arkansas line. That region is calling me home. Maybe we shall cross paths someday. Thank you sweet friend for sharing. If I’m not filming and just take a seat, even the swing or hammock Laddie hops up demanding lap time. I hope to find away to take him along with me, what an adventure “Have crooked beak rooster, will travel “ 😄Sending ((hugs)) to you and yours. ♥️

@@katesgardenchickencatrambl7680 Have you ever loaded Laddie up in a vehicle and taken a drive to see how he would do in the car? He might do better than you think. I have taken my roo to the vet twice an hour and a half away from home. He loved it! He rode in my lap and looked out the window the whole time. I took the travel crate, but he wanted to be in my lap. He was so good when the vet talked to him and handled him. he is different away from his territory and girls. I have thought it would be fun to take him to Sonic Drive In for an outing to give the girls a break and have fun with him. I had to take one of my hens to the same vet and she did not handle it well. She was really frightened. She was also really sick. Anyway, maybe see how he and Flower do in the car when you get one. They might do just fine. Or, maybe just Laddie, if Flower is too much.
