If you go to Mount Vernon Estate there are actually busts and statues of Washington as Cincinnatus in the house and the museum, so people at the time of Washington's life were already comparing him to this mythic figure and he himself was likely aware of the comparison and consciously chose to imitate Cincinnatus. Washington's actions were a way of showing that such legendary virtue really was attainable, and that therefore the Republic could survive if others followed his example. Good job telling this story that played such a huge part in the Early Republic but has been mostly forgotten today!
Yes, the peaceful transfer of executive power that was exemplified by Washington is and should always remain one of our nation's greatest strengths. This is probably one of the most important lessons from our history that all Americans should learn and take to heart.
