With conventional firearms, barrel degradation usually comes from heat due to friction etc. Single shots in a benchrest setting, isn't heavy wear and tear. Also with compressed air, you cool the barrel in such a way that it is usually colder after a shot, further reducing potential wear and tear. ✌️😊
Other reputable channel Walnut and steel once said about some new airgun that it need few hundred shots in order the barrel to "break in" meaning the grooves to settle to the type of projectile you are using and will start shooting better groups.
It takes hundreds of thousands of rounds to shoot out the barrel of a .22 LR and pellets don't go as fast and aren't as hard so I suspect airgun barrels are nearly indestructible.
@TacticalJackalope, im with you on this, even though the fx barrel liner is thin it's not cheap steel, it's fairly hard stuff, also there is no carbon fouling in an airgun, that and extreme heat is what wears a barrel.
I agree, my 25cal Heavy liner has over 40/50k through it & it's sub moa at 115yds easily, with over 10 different projectiles. The issue with the liners is it's a hit or miss to whether the liner you get is a good or bad one, my 25cal Heavy is awesome, my 30cal Heavy it took 3 attempts to get a liner that actually worked to my standard, but the one now again is awesome. So my worry is if they do wear out what will the replacement be like
What is your experience with the liner over time with the accuracy? Getting better or worse? Differences from new and after having shot 1000-2000 shots?
@@VikingAirgunner sorry, for delay, signal is shite. Precision accuracy came after 2-3months, combination of everything settling down & me getting used to it. Since then I have noticed no change whatsoever, still amazing precision
My .22 superlight STX liner (Crown mk 2) has had around 40-45000 shots through it and it's as accurate as ever. In fact if memory serves it took around 20000 shots before it really started being consistent (of course I have to factor in that during that time I was getting used to the gun).
I have seen people do it, but not if it has made a positive change. If I was sitting next to someone who had done it and I saw the results, I might consider doing it to a bad liner, but my liners has mostly been ok, and if not I have sent them back for a replacement. Problem is that people has different opinions about accuracy. One would say that his liner is good after only shooting at 35m, but at 100 m it would make 5 cm groups, so I never trust people unless they document their accuracy - or if it is someone that I trust. So I would probably not do it to my FX liner. If I by accident removed to much material in the process its pretty much destroied. Best regards and high fives back to Argentina
Hello,i just got heavy/slug liner in 500mm,but upon checking length i found it 2.5cm longer then also 500mm rated stx superrior liner, why is that and how to solve problem with end barrel screw only securing liner with few turns due to longer liner, also shroud cant be full aligned due to that longer end barrel screw, thx.

Hi and thank you for subscribing to my channel 🙂 Laws in Denmark prevents us from buying anything above 177 without a hunting licence. And getting one of those is a bit of a hazzle. And with the licence anything has to be registered with is a long and time consuming process. So I chose to stay with 177 - and now it seems like my niche 🙂 But even if you are using a different caliber there are many processes that can be compared 🙂
Good information sir. Iam from Indian. I need your help. My gun is fx maverick compact 177. Iam using jsb knockout 13 gr slugs. Good grouping 100 metres. But one problem sir . My prob is 100 + metre shooting tim slugs good grouping but slugs going little right side.. hou right going no idea. Hou cliyar tha complent
I dont think that you should expect any particular good groupings past 100 m. You have a short barrel and a light slug. If you want more accuracy at longer distances you should get a longer heavy liner and use 16-20 gr slugs.
I only wish I had my own shooting range in the beautiful woodland. Your very lucky Peter
Thank you Peter, for your deep dive into liner Wear, much appreciated
as always, appreciate your candid and honest evaluation.

I would contact the dealer👍
Question: with that amount of shots is there anything that wears out on the gun during that time?
Nothing mechanical that I can think of.
Orings will need to be changed over time, but that is no matter if the gun had fire many shots or not.

Im not sure if the old liner wore out or the new liner is made with different dimensions.
The old liner performs at the best level still.

Wonder what the result had been if it was 30k of lead free ammo instead..😮 Through the old liner i mean
I guess that we will know soon enough - wether we like it or not 😪
Topic for another vid pehaps? Say 10k of lead free pellets through a new liner and repeat the test? 😏
@@gigolocan8914 I hope it will never come to that 😂
A 308win has 62 000psi pressure and a barrel is estimated to last 10k rounds with copper plated bullets. Your liner is safe 😅
must be sub 12#
A 16 gr slug at 963 fps. How do you calculate that to be sub 12?
My humble calculation says 32.9401798201798 ft/lbs, but I could be wrong🤔
