TRIP REPORT | First Time on Swiss A330! | Boston to Zurich | SWISS Airbus A330

- Swiss Trip Report flying from Boston to Zurich onboard one of the Swiss Airbus A330 on a beautiful night over the Atlantic and morning over Europe.
A comfortable flight onboard the Swiss Airbus A330-300 from Boston to Zurich. The A330 still offers the 2-4-2 seat configuration, which is perfect for those seated on the window seats. This was also my first time flying from Boston Airport and, of course, it's also for the channel.
After a nice planespotting session at Boston airport, we boarded our A330 and took off from Boston just a few minutes after the scheduled time of departure. Just a few seconds after liftoff we made a steep turn to the left and set course towards the North-Atlantic ocean. Ahead of us around 7 hours of flight.
Around 3 hours after takeoff the Sunrise started in the middle of the North-Atlantic ocean. As always in these cases, it was me and Sunrise. Everyone on the plane was sleeping. It's a really magical moment. Everything is silent, nobody is moving.
Regarding the onboard service, the crew served just after departure the main catering service (dinner service). There were 2 options: pasta with vegetables or chicken with rice. I went for the chicken option. It came with a very basic salad (lettuce and carrot), bread, butter and cheese, and a little piece of cake as dessert.
In general, it was quite good. Not the best, of course, but not the worst either. Definitely better than the main airline in the Lufthansa Group. As the portions weren't really big, I asked for another main meal. In this case, was the vegetarian option. The cake, by the way, was terrible. But I was so hungry that I decided to eat it in 2 bites just to fill my stomach for the next 6 hours.
I would also like to mention that it's clear that these A330s are at the end of their career in Swiss: the IFEs are entirely outdated, there are no sockets (just a super-slow USB charger) and seats, although they were quite comfortable, they looked old.
As a final conclusion, I would also like to point out that it's really sad to see how iconic airlines are downgrading more and more the economy class service. Looks like every airline touched by the Lufthansa Group got the order to cut costs to the max level. Lufthansa's service is just a joke compared to what it was. Swiss, from what I've seen in some old Trip Reports on TH-cam is starting to follow the same path. I'm curious about how the Austrian Airlines long-haul service is. Luckily, we'll see it soon on the channel!

i grew up northeast of Boston and have used Logan many many times.for you to say it is a nice airport,they must have redone it or something,cause it sucked when i was young.glad it is nicer now.

Hola Lucas¡¡ Qué vuelo tan tranquilo y bonito por el amanecer¡¡¡ La gente no sabe o no quiere saber que es mejor no dormir en el vuelo y luego dormir en el destino para que el jet-lag no haga estragos. Yo no puedo dormir en ningún avión, siempre voy mirando por las ventanillas o leyendo, pero dormida nunca. No me preguntes por qué. Swiss es una buena compañía aérea, me parece a mi, por lo que veo en tus videos. Me gusta y si tengo que viajar alguna vez a algún sitio y vuela Swiss seguro que reservo con ellos. Muy bonito el reportaje del aterrizaje con el rio Rhin separando Alemania de Suiza y la campiña tan verde de Suiza. Precioso el viaje¡¡¡
Nice trip report. I like it that you always show the sunrise/sundown. And it is interesting to see the vegetarian and the not vegetarian meal.
That lit-up winglet is really cool!..... though, I guess it could detract some of the view at night time
I’ve only used Swiss once, in Business class, and it was great. From that one experience I’d rate them among the best.

i flew on an A330 300 from Johannesburg to Zurich on 27 October 2022 flight Lx 283, sat in row 42, and what a nice flight, supper was about 50 % good,, but no real breakfast, only a small yogurt, bun small cheese, juice, will recommend the seat of 42 d anytime

Given the late departure from BOS, a sandwich out of BOS and a hot breakfast prior to ZRH would probably have been more appropriate.

What is in the bagel? Cream cheese? They used to serve a decent croissant with jam. At least it's better than Granola Bar they serve on Virgin, Lufthansa and others.

For 10 years they were serving a horrible chocolate brownie on every flight from the US. So some improvement. Also they now add pieces of carrot / cucumber in the salad. It used to be just plain lettuce. An improvement.

Very disappointing to still see the lacklustre breakfast service onboard, looks like nothing has changed from when I flew YUL-ZRH in August 2021 (and only received a muffin), except that they increase the amount of carbohydrates you receive before landing.
Because Swiss Airlines belong to the Lufthansa Group, Lufthansa controls the finances, maybe they have done cost cutting especially because of the problems produced by Covid.
American food served, not surprised that the cake was artificial looking.

While taxiing I don't know many of that info.
I check it while editing with FR24, the airport info screens and my own knowledge :)
